[TT2 Round 1] YellowAdminSilver (MMM) vs. Matezoide (HPT)

~INTRODUCTION~
UOM9br4.jpg

ASB Arena
TMkGmBW.png
"Good morning, everybody! Cassandra Caliber speaking! Since the old tin man is battling in this tournament, it's up to me, the sole inheritor of his estate, to pick up his refereeing slack so he can stress about his battles in peace. Since some of the matches are already underway, it's been taking a liiiittle bit longer to set everything up in the arena. Apologies!"
doublade.gif
"I am here as well, for I am to protect the young master in the master's absence--"
TMkGmBW.png
"That's enough out of you. We have a tournament to watch!"
TMkGmBW.png
"Today we're scratching the surface of this tournament with a 3v3 Singles match between YellowAdminSilver of Team Mean Midnight Machine and Matezoide of The Hipster Trinity! In this format, both battlers are choosing three of their five Pokemon from the official team registration to use in this battle. It's a tossup over who comes in more prepared! Since both of these battlers are well-rounded veterans, we can expect to see no less than an amazing battle here! But, first, let's go over the rules, which will be standard throughout the entire tournament."
  • All Abilities
  • All Items
  • 3 recovers/5 chills
  • 3 Substitutions
  • 1 Mega
  • Switch=KO
  • 3 Day DQ for battlers
  • 3 Day DQ for refs
  • Self-KO clause; in the event of a double KO to end the match, the Pokemon that KOed itself through whatever means (self-KOing move, energy exhaustion, etc) loses.
"And now, without further ado, let's introduce the battlers and their chosen Pokemon teams!"

On YellowAdminSilver's side:
Zara's past remains shrouded in mystery. She reveals little about her origins herself, and doesn't make any efforts whatsoever to confirm or deny the rumors that float around about her. If the stories are to be believed, Zara comes from a secluded fortress built into a solitary mountain, deep in the desert. Here, a secretive Order has lived and trained for generations, at the service of a mysterious figure who might be more myth than man. This "Old Man of the Mountain" is rumored to have a legion of assassins at his beck and call, trained in the arts of combat and deception. Be it as it may, Zara joined Silver after hearing of the young trainer's intentions of contending for the position of Dark Gym Leader, and she has always worked to that end with ruthless precision, efficiency and loyalty. Nothing about Zara has ever made Silver feel like the rumors about her being a highly-trained assassin are false.

Zara's loyalty and composure have quickly endeared her to Soul, who sees in her a kindred spirit. She seems to be motivated by a deep sense of spirituality, although few manage to comprehend this part of her personality.

Nothing
Greed is... strange. Many chalk it up to living in a cave for the longest time, since it seems the solitude has messed with his people skills, among other things. He has a bit of an obsession with things that shine in the darkness, as well as a not-so-small case of kleptomania. Greed is also fixated on hoarding money and jewels, which, strangely, he doesn't eat, unlike most of his species. Suffice it to say, he's not entirely right in the head, which freaks Zelda out to no end. Still, he's an able battler, and he will always go all-out in a fight--albeit for a price.

Greed joined Silver as soon as the position of Dark Gym Leader became open, presumably because he felt that a substancious reward would come from helping the young Trainer secure the position. Even as the aftermath of that decision has brought more work than gain for himself, it seems Greed is content with making a name for himself in the battlefield, rather than hoarding rocks in a cave in Hoenn.

"Silver brought a group of versatile Pokemon to this match, playing safe and keeping his matchups open to adapt to whatever Matezoide brings. A sound strategy, as both Sableye and Greninja are forces to be reckoned with just on their own!"

And, on Matezoide's side:
bSa6B.png

<Primeape> [Steve] (Male)
Nature: Jolly (+14% accuracy)

Type: Fighting

Fighting STAB; ignore weight restrictions on Circle Throw, Seismic Toss, Sky Drop, Storm Throw, Submission, and Vital Throw.

About: He is the very first pokemon Matezoide obtained and quickly became best friends after Matt selfishlessly risked his life against a pack of wild Houndour.
Steve is extremely strong, determined, honored and relatively docile Primeape, only feeling truly alive during a battle with a worth opponent (But cant control his anger if he feels the situation is....ridiculous), he cares very much about his trainer and team mates. As Matezoide's oldest pokemon and closest friend, Steve is considered to be the leader of his pokemon, and the one they can always trust for help regardless of the situation.

Abilities:
Vital Spirit (Passive):

This Pokemon has a high vitality and alertness making it immune to sleep induced by other Pokemon. Its normal state of sleeplessness makes it take 1 less damage and energy/action from Ghost Curse. If it is put to sleep by a Pokemon with Mold Breaker it will wake up the next action. If a Pokemon with Vital Spirit also has Insomnia, its evasion is raised by one (1) stage permanently.

Anger Point (Passive):

When struck with a critical hit, this Pokemon becomes enraged and its Attack rises to maximum (Stage 6). However, its Attack will drop up to two (2) stages at the end of each round instead of one (1) stage until it reaches stage zero (0). Critical hits from self-targeting moves do not activate Anger Point.

Defiant (HIDDEN ABILITY UNLOCKED Passive):

The Pokemon has a deep sense of honor, and whenever one of its stats are decreased by an opponent's Attack or Ability, its Attack increases by two (2) stages. Attack Boosts gained this way are not subject to deterioration that round.

<Steelix> [Thumper] (F)

Nature: Adamant (+Attack, -Sp.Attack)

Type: Ground/Steel

Steel: Steel STAB; immune to Sandstorm damage, immune to Poison/Toxic status, but can be corroded specifically by Acid and Acid Spray, making them susceptible to Poison-type attacks and Poison/Toxic Status.

Ground: Ground STAB; immune to Sandstorm. Ignores Arena restrictions on Dig and Seismic Attacks for Arenas in which any land mass exists, Evasive Digging reduced from 6 per action Energy Cost to 5 per action.

About: Traded for a Luvdisc before Matezoide made it out from Kalos, Thumper's past is unknown to all but herself. Amidst the humors of a tortured childhood, everyone decided to keep their concerns to themselves, much to her delight.

Abilites:

Rock Head (Passive):

This Pokemon's hard body prevents it from taking recoil damage from moves such as Double-Edge, Flare Blitz, and Head Smash.

Sturdy (Passive):

This Pokemon's body is solidly constructed, reducing the Base Attack Power from an opponents incoming attacks by one (1). The effect is amplified on OHKO Moves, which are reduced by ten (10) Base Attack Power.

Sheer Force (HA UNLOCKED, Toggle):

At default this Pokemon can energize all its attacks with a secondary effect (These are damaging moves that either lower the target's stats, raise the user's stats, or inflict a status condition on the target). The Base Attack Power of every move with a secondary effect increases by two (2), but they will never have their usual secondary effect. When toggled, no effect.
Sand Force (Mega, Passive):

This Pokemon thrives in Sandstorm conditions, using the power of the swirling sand to augment its Rock-, Ground-, and Steel-typed attacks. Each of this Pokemon's Rock-, Ground-, and Steel-typed attacks will have the Base Attack Power increased by two (2). Pokemon with this ability are immune to Sandstorm damage.

<Azumarill> [Natara] (F)
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Sp.Attack)

Type: Water/Fairy

Water: Water STAB; Ignores arena restrictions on Water attacks that require an external water source. Evasive Diving reduced from 6 per action Energy Cost to 5 per action.

Fairy: Fairy STAB: -1 EN on non-Fairy typed Nature, Sound, and Scent moves (Stacks with second STAB where applicable). (Nature Power, Natural Gift; Sound Moves; Aromatherapy, Odor Sleuth, Sweet Scent)

About: A very jolly and happy Azurill caught by Athenodoros, Nate Natara is extremely easy to like, becoming friends with the usualy quiet and reserved Chuck in a few minutes, their oppositive natures made them bond with easy. Despite the sex changed caused by an unknown mutation (1/3 of each FEMALE Azurill become MALE upon evolving, not the oppositive), Natara is just as happy.
Natara is generaly seen as the team's little brother sister (alongside Mordecai) and is sure to bring joy and happiness wherever she goes.

Thick Fat (Passive): This Pokemon has a great deal of extra fat or muscle that increases its resistance to extreme heat or extreme cold, reducing the type effectiveness of Fire- and Ice-typed attacks to the next level of resistance.

Huge Power (Passive): This Pokemon has immense inner strength that grows with its development, raising its Attack and its Base Rank Total by one Rank for each evolution level (Baby = 1, Basic = 2, Stage 1 = 3). If Skill Swapped, the swapped Pokemon's Attack and Base Rank Total is only raised by one Rank.

Sap Sipper (HIDDEN ABILITY UNLOCKED, Passive): This Pokemon lives on a steady diet of plants and has developed defenses to every Grass-type attack. When attacked with a Grass-type move, damage and effects are negated and the Pokemon gains a one (1) stage attack boost. A boost gained this way by an opponent's attack will be maintained at the end of each round. Self-targeted attacks do not maintain boosts.

"Matezoide seems to be going for a more offensive strategy, as he's brought some pretty threatening heavy-hitters. Mega Steelix can be a real pain to deal with, and both Primeape and Azumarill have favorable typing vs. Silver's Dark-types. This is looking to be one intense matchup!"

TMkGmBW.png
"The spectators in the arena are in tense silence, on the edge of their seats waiting for this battle to begin. This initial matchup looks in favor of Aurumoth, but Azumarill's bulk and power are not to be underestimated."
doublade.gif
"Young master, the battlers have made their orders."
TMkGmBW.png
"Great! Let's get started!"
TMkGmBW.png
"Silence and dust fills the stale air of the arena as the two Pokemon stare each other down. Alina the Aurumoth folds her wing-plates backwards, assuming an aerodynamic pose as Natara digs her feet into the dirt, waiting to sprint at any moment. However, as the Azumarill hears her trainer's commands, her stance loosens, and she simply stands collected as Alina jets forward. The Aurumoth consumes its RageCandy Bar to gain a huge amount of stats to start things off. Summoning massive Thunder from the sky (without worrying about accuracy), Alina jets towards Natara. Unable to react to the Aurumoth's superior speed, she gets struck directly by a large bolt, taking a large chunk of damage. However, the Azumarill still stands firm, and had been collecting her energy to perform a Perish Song! The tune is destructive to Pokemon, and causes them to mysteriously faint after three rounds. Good thing we have sound dampeners installed around the arena, otherwise Pokemon watching with their trainers may be in danger.

It's apparent now what Matezoide's strategy is; since this is a Switch=KO battle, Perish Song will eventually KO Aurumoth. The gameplan now is easy: stall. Natara does so, putting up a Protect barrier to stop Alina's attacks. Silver saw through this, though; one of his substitutions allowed for Tail Glow to be used in reaction to protective moves. The glow from Aurumoth's tail is quite intense, even from up here! That light is energy released from Alina's Special Attack going up by 3 stages!

In what could be called either oversight or careful planning, Silver's orders once again are overridden by Tail Glow in response to Natara's Light Screen. Aurumoth gets an incredible boost with that incredible light, maxing out its Special Attack stat. Be sure to wear your complimentary ASB Arena-brand sunglasses(TM) if you're sensitive to harsh light! On the flip side, Natara sets up a barrier that softens the blows from special attacks. Funny how those two moves interact with each other!

Both Pokemon have been put on a strict timer. With Perish Song ticking down, each action from here on counts more than ever. Can Alina put Natara down before the count is up, or will her and Natara perish together?"

"Perhaps, though it appears the difficulties have subsided for now, young master."
TMkGmBW.png
"Perfect! Let's keep this battle rolling!"
TMkGmBW.png
"Now that the dust is settled and the battle has begun, the strategies being employed by both trainers have taken shape. They have to strike a balance between careful consideration and sheer guts to come out on top. Both trainer and Pokemon alike are keeping a constant eye on the clock. There's only so much time left before Perish Song ticks away, after all! All of us here in the arena are expecting Alina to pull out all the stops here, but the Aurumoth goes for an unexpected play by setting up a Reflect barrier. While this does cut Azumarill's damage by a considerable amount, Matezoide and Natara's gameplan couldn't be any more passive. Perhaps this move was just to trigger a substitution; Natara uses a Brick Break technique as ordered by her trainer, shattering the Reflect and pretty much making this round so far amount to nothing.

Natara isn't Protecting this time, so surely now Alina is going to go on the offensive, right? Surely, with that astronomically high Special Attack stat, she's got to do something, right? A giant Thunder combination? Powerful STABs? Nope, she Disables Azumarill's Brick Break. It looks like Silver is playing into Matezoide's game by preventing him from taking down another Reflect when the time comes. Natara sticks to her original orders this action, creating an Aqua Ring to give her some gradual healing. And it works pretty well, considering it looks like she won't be taking damage this round.

This round ends on a classic second-order abuse; Alina Chills to regain energy while Natara uses Protect to shield herself from...nothing. An ultimately quiet round for both combatants, but Perish Song's final round is coming up. Huge plays are going to be made then, for sure.

Well, folks, here it is. No matter what happens this round, both Pokemon are going down. Let's see how the trainers direct their Pokemon for these final three bouts.

Anticipating the Encore from Matezoide as per her trainer's orders, Alina protects herself, sparing herself some grief. Natara Encores, but the move doesn't do anything. A quiet start to this round, for sure, but I sense some hidden strategies brewing...

Hold on to your hats, coats, and sense of self, ladies and gentlemen! Alina is using her psychic powers to twist the dimensions of the arena into a Wonder Room! In here, there are no rules...except that all Pokemon's Defense and Special Defense stats are switched. An interesting play, seeing that most of Matezoide's team uses physical attacks. This is the result Matezoide wanted, though, as this Encore on Natara's part goes through, locking the Aurumoth into repeating itself.

Alina uses another Wonder Room, and, surprisingly, instead of making everything weirder, the dimensions just returned to normal. Was this Matezoide's plan all along? It seems so, because Natara sets up that Light Screen with no regrets left in her heart. And, with that, both Pokemon mysteriously perish.

Both trainers get to replace their Pokemon now, but Matezoide is at a slight advantage due to his Light Screen. How can Silver adapt to this gamestate?

With the previous matchup of Azumarill and Aurumoth mysteriously drawing to a close due to Perish Song, both battlers are at an even pace. How this second matchup goes may well affect the rest of the battle. It's Thumper, the grandstand-sized Steelix versus Greed, the sneaky trickster Sableye. Let's see how these first orders turn out.

To start things off, Greed takes advantage of its Prankster ability (even though he was faster than Thumper anyways) to go for a mean-spirited Taunt before Steelix could react...wait, what did he say, Ex? Wow, Greed, too soon. Thumper gets very angry at this Taunt, so angry that she performs a Heavy Slam attack direct to Greed's bejeweled face. Holy moly, what an attack! Though, it didn't do as much damage as you would think, seeing as Greed gets a massive boost from his Everstone.

Because Thumper is still so angry from being Taunted, she has no choice but to continue attacking straight into Greed's plans. A powerful Iron Head comes out, slamming Greed into the dirt. Thanks to Sheer Force, the attack is powered up, but it loses that flinch chance that could have gotten her out of this situation...what situation, you ask? Well, Greed pulls off a Pain Split without a hitch, completely reversing Thumper's damage while doing some "damage" of his own.

With Thumper unable to perform any moves listed as her substitutions, she continues to ravage Greed with large attacks, most notably another Heavy Slam. This attack leaves Greed reeling, but not for long, as he had absorbed the energy from the impact to power his own Metal Burst, blasting Thumper back with all of the damage he took, and then some!

Thanks to Sableye's solid defenses and back of tricks, he came out on top of a matchup that would otherwise be difficult for him. The Taunt on Steelix definitely helped, and it will also impact the coming round. He did use quite a bit of energy, though, and Steelix is still relatively fresh. How can Matezoide regain his momentum?

With this matchup off to an explosive start, the race for the most damage begins. Silver seems to have the right idea, but Matezoide is looking fierce as well. Let's see how this round unfolds.

The first thing we get to see is a shockingly bright light followed by an explosion of energy--Steelix Mega Evolves into Mega Steelix! This boosts Thumper's stats quite a bit, and while it's going to be tricky to activate, it also gains Sand Force as an ability. Sableye may be slow, but Steelix is even slower. So, naturally, Greed gets to start us off, dashing beneath the hulking behemoth's coils and delivering a Low Kick straight at a critical point, causing Thumper to trip and crash to the ground. The bigger they are, the harder they fall, it seems. Thumper retaliates, using her unlikely position to her advantage and wrapping around with a harsh Sheer Force-boosted Iron Tail, which delivers a massive impact and sends Greed flying back across the field!

Without any of Silvers substitutions activating this round, Greed is free to keep going with his orders, and that includes another Low Kick, tripping the steel serpent once again! Thumper writhes across the ground, shaking the arena with an Earthquake attack, sending Greed high into the air and into a wall. Ouch!

Greed is rather low on energy at this point, and has to be careful. So, instead of a third trip attack, he cloaks his fist in fire for a Fire Punch, which is good for type coverage, but Thumper's incredible Defense stat means the attack barely makes a scratch. Iron Tail, on the other hand, hits extraordinarily hard, critically, even. Greed sure is a tough little demon, taking all these launches and impacts and still standing.

While Low Kick does extreme amounts of damage, Fire Punch does not. This leaves Thumper ahead in damage, but she's still lacking in Speed, which could spell trouble later on. Greed's looking pretty banged up at this point. Thumper isn't without her injuries, but it's harder to tell on such a huge, steel-plated beast. How will this matchup draw to a close?

Steelix was taunted at the beggining A1 of the last round (Since Sableye was faster), so it is supposed to have wore off by now.

You also forgot Sturdy, so Steelix recovers some health.

Heavy Slam -> Iron Head -> Heavy Slam

If Endure and you are not taunted, use Sandstorm that action and push back, but only once
If Low Kick outside of a combination and you did not use Protect last action, use Protect that action and push-back.
If Low Kick outside of a combination and you did use Protect last action, use Skull Bash that action and push-back
