Underused Pokemon Matchmaking Phase 2 [Week 29 - Nasty Plot Infernape]

Reserving Cresselia

Cresselia (F) @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 108 Def / 140 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Moonlight
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
Ok, this Salamence Set is weak to a few things, like Mamoswine, Alakazam, Scarfed Hydreigon and Bulky Waters and Fairies. With this Spread and this Item, Cresselia can hold Mamoswine with ease and use it as a Setup Fodder, OHKO Hydreigon with Moonblast, use Alakazam as a setup fodder (This spread allows Cresselia to be 3HKOed by LO Alakazam) and use the most of the Bulky Waters and Fairies as setup fodders while using CM and Moonlight.

Oh, cool, my usual site for animated sprites is down. Whatever. Pairing Mega Beedrill with Defog Mence.

Beedrill @ Beedrillite
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Protect
- U-turn
- Poison Jab
- Knock Off

Defog Mence has trouble with bulky special walls and Fairies. Mega Beedrill has problems with physical walls and stuff that in general walls its STABs, while really appreciating no hazards on the field (besides Toxic Spikes, but whatever). Together they fight crime.

Standard Mega Bee is standard, with Knock Off getting the nod over Drill Run this time because (usually) Salamence can take care of the Steels and Poisons that wall Beedrill's STABs. Neither Beedrill nor Salamence like P2, so Knock Off also helps with that, though to be honest in that case you're better off U-turning out on the switch into something that REALLY makes it shit its pants, like Heracross, but that's neither here nor there. Beedrill is a fairly cut-and-dry Pokemon, so there's not much else to say but Poison Jab all the Fairies that give Salamence hell, and U-turn out to roast Steel-types with Fire Blast.

Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 240 HP / 16 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Spikes
- Volt Switch
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball

Double Hazard Forry is an old relic that isn't seen very much these days in favor of Rapid Spin. However, seeing as how Salamence already has Hazard Removal in the form of Defog, this set may see light. On the surface this set is typical and standard, except the application of a Specially Defensive set to help combat fairies, especially Choice Specs Sylveon and Whimsicott. All in all, Forretress is a solid partner that offers solid role compression in the form of both types of hazard and a multipurpose check to many threats.

Sorry for not writing anything for my last post. Didn't expect to be hospitalized that night. Anyway:

Escavalier @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Atk / 244 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Iron Head
- Megahorn
- Pursuit

^This spread lives 2 Focus Blasts from Zam.

So in this meta, Special Defog Mence's biggest problem lies in giving free switches to the tier's many Fairies and special walls, allowing them to fire off Hyper Voices, set up Calm Minds, and use their cleric moves. It is also scared out by faster Dragons (read: Sceptile). Escavalier easily takes care of this problem by straight abusing these threats - namely, Sylveon, Florges, Whimsicott and Blissey - and in return, Salamence can drop fat nukes, roast Steel types, wall Fire types, and threaten strong special attackers that it outspeeds, like LO Hydreigon, thus taking care of Escavalier's defensive and offensive checks.

And with 4 votes, Lord of Bays has won this week with that nice Mega Beedrill submission! Congratulations :)

This week, I decided to go with a Water-type that has been criminally underrated for awhile and has also succeeded in some major UU tournaments...

Milotic @ Leftovers
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Recover
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Haze / Toxic

Milotic has become a nice option thanks to its access to reliable recovery, giving it the ability to run Ice Beam to beat up Dragon and Grass-types while also serving as a nice check to setup sweepers thanks to Haze or Toxic.

Submissions end on Friday.

Sceptile-Mega @ Sceptilite
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Dragon Pulse
- Leaf Storm
- Focus Blast

mega Sceptile is a good partner for Milotic, absorbs electric hits due to its ability, also has good synergy with Milotic, it checks well Entei and ice type as mamo finally can weaken steels type as Bronzong using Scald with a burn chance.

Reserving NP Celebi

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Giga Drain
- Psychic
- Dazzling Gleam
Nasty Plot Celebi is a good partner to Milotic because of three crucial points: 1. Milotic is a setup fodder to Fighting-Types, like BU Conkeldurr, Toxicroak and Heracross, Celebi can check them very well; 2. Milotic is weak to both Electric- and Grass-Types, and Celebi can resist them very well; 3. Milotic is weak to Status, predominantly Toxic, but Celebi can absorb them and is immune to Powders. In counterpart, Milotic can check a lot of Pokémon, like Mega-Beedrill, Mamoswine, Kyurem and Steel-Types.
Nasty Plot makes Celebi a huge Special Attacker, with two powerful STABs in Psychic and Giga Drain, Celebi can threat a lot of Pokémon, like Toxicroak, Mamoswine (Ice Shard 2HKOs, but Celebi can OHKO it with Giga Drain), Cobalion (non-SD Sets are setup fodders), Heliolisk and Roserade. Dazzling Gleam is a coverage move that can hit things like Hydreigon, Salamence

Whimsicott @ Pixie Plate
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 spe
Timid Nature
- Encore
- Giga Drain
- Stun Spore
- Moonblast

Whimsicott is a pretty rudimentary and excellent partner for Milotic. It mostly assists with taking on most Grass-types that reside in the tier with it's access to Encore and relatively powerful Moonblast and it can even serve as a basic check to the few Electric-types in the tier such as Rotom-M. To go even further, it relives the pressure Milotic faces when holding it's own against Salamence, Hydreigon, and Mega Sceptile. Overall it's a swell partner.

treezus (Abomasnow-Mega) @ Abomasite
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Ice Shard
- Swords Dance
- Seed Bomb
- Earthquake

Forming 2 / 3 of an FWG core, Milotic and Abomasnow form an excellent pairing. In support of Abomasnow's wallbreaking prowess, Milotic can wall Fire types, as well as some Fighting types, wear down Steel types with Scald, and shut down setup mons before Abomasnow is ready. In return, Abomasnow is a great offensive check to the tier's slew of powerful Dragons and Water types, taking a lot of pressure off of Milotic to check them, as well as Flying (to an extent) and Ground types. It can also revenge kill boosting threats that get out of control with Ice Shard. Together, these two wall and / or set up on a large portion of the UU's premier threats, and keep momentum in the player's control through the combination of Haze, bulk, and powerful priority.

Reserving roserade

Roserade @ Black Sludge
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 240 HP / 252 SpD / 16 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Synthesis
- Toxic Spikes / Spikes
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb

These 2 form a pretty neat core of Grass and Water, 2/3 of a FWG core. Probably one of the more popular cores back in BW.

Roserade checks/counters for Milotic: Whimsicott, Sceptile, Celebi/Shaymin (When Weakened),Overgrow Chesnaughts and a plethora of Bulky Waters.
252 SpA Life Orb Shaymin Psychic vs. 240 HP / 252+ SpD Roserade: 148-177 (46.1 - 55.1%) -- 10.5% chance to 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery
0 SpA Celebi Psychic vs. 240 HP / 252+ SpD Roserade: 134-162 (41.7 - 50.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Black Sludge recovery

Specially defensive Roserade can sponge of electric and grass type attacks with ease while being able to Synthesise off the damage it takes. Roserade also help deal with Bulky Waters that beat Milotic 1v1 such as Suicune. Milotic also helps Roserade take on physical threats due to its poor defense. Natural Cure allows Roserade to take status aimed at Milotic even with marvel scale and can easily switch out to cure it. Toxic Spikes can help Milotic stall out the opponent easier by tanking hits, racking up toxic damage, recovering and applies great pressure to the opponent. Black Sludge can also be useful sometimes as some people would want to trick/switcheroo a choice item onto Milotic. Giga Drain can also help with longevity while doing significant amount of damage. Roserade also has a slight edge over other grass types in the tier due to its secondary poison type. Sludge Bomb is very useful for dispatching fairies and grasses while having a 80% good chance to poison. 240 HP EVs are used to gain maximum Black Sludge recovery and take less damage from entry hazards. 252 Special Defense EVs are used to make Roserade as specially bulky as possible. 16 Speed EVs allow Roserade to outspeed maximum Speed neutral-natured base 60 Speed Pokemon.

Milotic check/counters for Roserade: Entei, Arcanine, Darmanitan, Infernape (Physical), Defensive Rotom-H, and a plethora of physical attackers.

Milotic on the other hand helps with offensive oriented fire types which threatens Roserade. Recover is mandatory and helps Milotic live longer. Milotic serves as one of the tier's best stops to setup sweepers with its access to utility moves such as Haze and Recover as well as a great Special Defense stat and a good defensive typing in pure Water. Roserade also helps Milotic have Haze/Dragon Tail>Toxic due to Toxic Spikes. Scald as the most broken move in the game aids Milotic in taking on physical threats by burning them and Ice Beam is just a great coverage move overall and can deal with Specially Offensive Mence and other dragons a bit easier. Haze resets all stat changes on the field, which is especially useful against setup sweepers such as Gyarados, Reuniclus, Slowking, Suicune, and Snorlax. Leftovers provides passive recovery that goes along well with Recover in keeping Milotic healthy. The ability Marvel Scale provides Milotic with a Defense boost if it is poisoned or burned, though the status ailments severely compromise its longevity.

BIG G CHOPPA

Banned deucer.

Florges @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy

Florges takes on some annoying mons to milotic like heliolisk and mega ampharos, as they threaten milotic with electric stab aka t bolt and just really dont give a shit about it. Since one has dry skin and one has a dragon typing. Since scald can burn, it cant toxic mega ampharos either and can set up an agility on it relatively easily. Florges also deals with grasses like mega sceptile and chesnaught which threaten with their grass stab, but although milotic can ice beam it wouldnt like a leaf storm / wood hammer. Florges can help milotic also by getting rid of its status by aromatherapy, in which its not as vulnerable to status. Milotic defensively helps florges as it resists fire and steel, and can threaten nido's with a scald. Bewar there is a bunch of calcs below :3c.

252 SpA Choice Specs Heliolisk Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Florges: 135-159 (37.5 - 44.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Florges Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heliolisk: 118-141 (44.5 - 53.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Mold Breaker Mega Ampharos Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Florges: 133-157 (36.9 - 43.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Florges Moonblast vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Mega Ampharos: 210-248 (59.3 - 70%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Mega Sceptile Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Florges: 159-187 (44.1 - 51.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Florges Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Sceptile: 258-306 (91.8 - 108.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoqueen Sludge Wave vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Milotic: 165-195 (41.9 - 49.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Milotic Scald vs. 180 HP / 0 SpD Nidoqueen: 198-234 (54 - 63.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Milotic: 164-192 (41.7 - 48.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Milotic Scald vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Nidoking: 242-288 (79.8 - 95%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
