So, I know I'm not an avid poster by any means. And I haven't owned a Pokemon game since Generation III. But I do play on showdown, and love it.

Anyway, I thought up a tactic and thought it could work. But there was one problem, I didn't realise you couldn't target your ally with Sticky Web... So, once I realised that, I thought it was game over, as trying to Skill Swap Magic Bounce onto your opponents would be too tricky right? ....right?

Now, as I am by no means a seasoned competitor, I am sure this team can use some refining. But it is actually performing better than expected, which I love, as it features my original favourite Pokemon - Wigglytuff - which has always been difficult to use effectively.

But the team functions by using Shuckle and Espeon to set up the reverse Sticky Web, and then the rest of the team has either Competitive or Defiant and 0 speed IVs, so when they enter a Trick Room battlefield, they are ready to sweep.

Here is the team's debut battle: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/doublesou-226990932

Shuckle carries Power Trick and rock slide so that if he is left untouched he can do some damage too.
Espeon carries Light Clay and dual screens so that if it has time it can provide defenses for the team.
But the two moves it uses right off the bat are Skill Swap and Trick Room.

Losing Espeon before Trick Room is OK, as Gothitelle is built defensively and carries it too - http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/doublesou-227035656

Soon I realised this team could take on some big teams such as this one with Tyranitar, Dragonite, Mega Gardevoir, Gengar, Keldeo and Landorus-T.http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/doublesou-227075630

I almost managed to take down a team without losing a single Pokemon - http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/doublesou-227459576

Gets way more fun when people use moves like Icy Wind, Muddy Water, or have Intimidate - http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/doublesou-227460767

But the best part is when people laugh at me for "messing up" and Sticky Webbing myself, the they're like.... Oh.... - http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/doublesou-227070378 + http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/doublesou-227488260

Anyway, obviously I'm only showing the good vids. And there are number of ways to thwart this tactic, but I just thought it was interesting. And if anyone else can build and improve on it, I would love to know their suggestions!?!

Here are some other vids, one showing how I get around Fake Out, which does offset Shuckle and Espeon's synergy:

Would love to hear what you think, and ideas to build on this if possible. Thanks! ~Pureon.

i fought this team once and 6-0d even though you (or someone else using this) set up your strategy without a hitch. There are strategies which are easy to stop yet legitimately threatening once they're up, like terracott, and then there are strategies which are easy to stop and also aren't even good once they're set up, like this.

Well, I haven't been 6-0d with it yet. I have lost, obviously. I hadn't seen this team around before, or heard of it, and people I've been playing over the last 2 days hadn't either. But then, I can't be the only person who thought of it.

Any ideas what could make it better?

Is terracott, using Cottonee and Terrakion and Beat Up? Because I beat someone using that, by using Skill Swap on the Terrkaion to take away the Justified. That's the other bonus with Espeon's skill Swap, because I need to give them Magic Bounce, sometimes I can take away another ability that they were depending on!

But yeah, obviously this is just a gimmic team right now, but I'm just wondering if it can be built on to make it competitively viable.?

Ok, maybe competitively viable wasn't the right phrase. But if anyone else can see any improvements, I'm all ears.

In the meantime, I'll just play around with it. I find a fun tactic anyway!

Generally if you have to pull some shenanigans with a Pokemon's ability, it's a gimmick. There are a few things that fall under this umbrella that are actually good (particularly weather but also non-dedicated Terracott) but gimmicks are typically unreliable.

Locking. If there's any community desire to discuss ability-based stuff like this I might open a gimmick thread, but that encourages people to use sub-par strategies :(
