Announcement VGC Classics PL II - Format Discussion / Polling

hi, its VGC Classics time again! There's going to be a relatively big gap between NAIC and Worlds, and what better way to fill that gap with oldgens! Here was the format for last year:

• 6 teams of 8 slots:
• x1 VGC 22
• x1 VGC 21
• x1 VGC 20 (Series 3)
• x1 VGC 2019 Ultra (gentleman's to Sun/Moon)
• x1 VGC 2018
• x1 VGC 2017
• x1 VGC 2015
• x1 VGC 2013

What formats would you be interested in seeing/playing? The number of slots and the formats are up for discussion! Should we see any Gen 9 or current gen slots? Do we have enough interest for more than 8 slots? Let us know what you think below!​

Other Draft info

• 100k draft with 8/11 min players depending on slot count
• 2 managers per team. You can self-buy one playing manager for 20k
• 2 points for win, 1 point for tie, 0 points for loss
• Trades can happen but only before Week 1 begins

Manager Signups: May 20 - May 26
Player Signups: May 27 - June 7
Draft: sometime June 8-9
Week 1: June 10 - June 16
Week 2: June 17 - June 23
Week 3: June 24 - June 30
Week 4: July 1 - July 7
Week 5: July 8 - July 14
Semis: July 15 - 21
Finals: July 22 - July 28
Two weeks of potential playoff tiebreaks are included to avoid overlap with Worlds

Manager signups and Commencement thread will release on May 20 assuming everything is covered!

For the slots:
1x Reg D (or Gentleman's prev format)
1x 2022
1x S7/9 or S8/10 / rotation
1x S5 (gentleman's prev format)
1x 2019 Ultra (Sun/moon gentleman's)
1x rotation 17/18
1x 2016
1x Rotation of 13/14/15


Optional: Current Gen (MAKE 2 PL)/ formats older than 13

- For 2020,2021,2022 and 2023 because it's the Worlds format (Player's Cup for 2020 and 2021)
- 17/18 difference is a little (dex / ha+nat dex) so maybe rotating is better
- I feel like 13/14/15 are too old formats for the newer players but attracts older players hence rotations should be ok / 15 over 16 slot is fine too because people hate 16.

I would keep the same formats as last year. If anything, I would include Reg C for the sole reason it was the "de facto" Regional Dex format of Gen 9, even if it was not a Worlds format (just as we include 2020-S3).

But overall, the whole point of this league imo is to play old generations. Gen 9 is still ongoing, let Gen 10 come before we call Gen 9 a "classic". I would not include it and would just keep the same formats.

Edit: You can eventually rotate 14/15/16 if there is enough interest in that.

i think including 2016 and 2014 in this edition could be good since they weren't included in the last PL.

2014 / 2015 / 2016 / 2017 / 2018 / 2019 / 2022 / Reg D would be my preference as the 8 most recent formats to have a world championship. I think interest in the covid-era dynamax formats has dried up significantly but I'm open to being challenged on that front. I also wouldn't be upset at 13 getting in over 14 if there's enough boomers still around, iirc last PL it went over /fine/ but would def like to make sure the interest is still there since the signup pool is very important in a tour like this

If 8 slots last year format is fine, if you want to add gen 9 i would suggest reg c/d, with it getting in over one between vgc 13 and vgc 20
although it is very optional in my opinion and i'm fine with last year format.

If you want to make it 6 team x 6 slots i suggest:
