#637 - Volcarona

[OVERVIEW]
- It has nice access to great STAB moves such as Fire Blast, Heat Wave, and Giga Drain.
- It has unique access to Quiver Dance which makes it an unique special sweeper.
- It has an okay HP and Special Defense stat but it is also quite frail physically.
- It has a pretty good Speed tier which allows it to tie with Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Gardevoir, but even more importantly being able to outspeed many threats such as Choice Scarf Landorus-T when you're boosted with Quiver Dance. It has high special attack which together with strong STAB attacks and unique access to Quiver Dance enables it to be a great special attacker.
- Walled by most other Fire-types, such as Mega Charizard Y and Heatran. It also has access to ample coverage to tough through Water-types and Rock-types such as Mega Diancie, Terrakion, and Rhyperior with Giga Drain.
- Dies to many common Pokemon such as Mega Kangaskhan and Talonflame (even though the former can be burned with Flame Body)

Moves
========
- Heat Wave is a spread STAB move that can take on two opponents at the same time which is especially useful after setting up Quiver Dance.
- Fire Blast allows Volcarona to be more threatening without a boost, notably OHKO'ing Amoonguss and Aegislash. The power increase is also helpful at +1, guaranteeing that Choice Scarf Landorus-T is outsped and OHKO'd. However, running this over Heat Wave forces Volcarona to forgo its source of spread damage, which can be very helpful as a setup attacker.
- Giga Drain allows it to beat Water-types such as Keldeo and Suicune, while also dealing with Rock-types such as Mega Diancie and Rhyperior. It is also useful to regain some of the HP it has lost from Life Orb recoil.
- Bug Buzz can also be used over Giga Drain if your team is weak to Dragon-types (most notably Latios and Hydreigon). It is also a powerful STAB move which goes through Substitutes, which helps against users such as Kyurem-B and Mega Latias.
- Volcarona is the only viable Quiver Dance user, which combined with its high Speed and Special Attack allows it to be a strong special attacker. The Special Defense boost can also come in handy versus slower special attackers such as Rotom-Wash and Aegislash.
- Protect is a staple move in Doubles that is used to stall out field conditions such as Tailwind and Trick Room, or to protect yourself from taking damage while your partners deal with the threat

Set Details
========
- Life Orb is a strong item in order to OHKO Mega Diancie with Giga Drain, but also just to do more damage in general. With Life Orb you can OHKO Aegislash with Fire Blast as well. It also has a good chance to OHKO Landorus-T with Heat Wave after one Quiver Dance boost.
- Lum Berry is useful for absorbing Thunder Waves by Thundurus and Spores by Breloom and Amoonguss once. This allows it to fulfill its role more easily.
- While Life Orb is helpful for Volcarona that use Heat Wave to clean up an opposing team, Lum Berry synergizes well with Fire Blast, as the power boost isn't quite as necessary, and the extra utility helps it, as Fire Blast Volcarona cannot remove two threats at once.
- Flame Body is useful to burn opponents with contact moves that don't KO Volcarona, such as Fake Out from Mega Kangaskhan, or Sucker Punch from Mega Kangaskhan and Bisharp. However, it should be noted that Talonflame can't be burned by Flame Body and many attacks that Volcarona is threatened by (such as Earthquake and Rock Slide) are actually non-contact.
- This spread allows Volcarona to outspeed Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Deoxys-A after one Quiver Dance boost, while max SpA allows it to do as much damage as possible, which is very important for setup sweepers.
- An alternative spread of 40 Def / 240 SpA / 228 Spe can be run to let Volcarona live Rock Slide from Landorus-Therian at -1, while still outspeeding Deoxys-A and Mega Aerodactyl after a single Quiver Dance boost. It should however be noted that this spread should only be used together with a Lum Berry, as a Life Orb does not mesh together with the defensive benchmarks well.

Usage Tips
========
- Volcarona is a very good late game cleaner. Once its checks are gone it can easily set up Quiver Dance and clean up the rest of the game with powerful STAB attacks.
- Volcarona functions best when it has partners that can support it and allow it to set up Quiver Dance easier. Useful support for Volcarona is mentioned in the Team Options section.
- Ideally, look for opportunities for Volcarona to setup Quiver Dance, when the opponents have 2 Pokemon out on the field that have trouble harming Volcarona.
- If Volcarona can take out a threat with either its Fire STAB or Giga Drain, it should use Giga Drain to improve its situation going into the following turn, by healing some HP.

Team Options
========
- Fake Out support makes setting up with Volcarona a lot easier. Common Fake Out users are Mega Kangaskhan and Scrafty, where the latter can also support Volcarona by weakening physical attackers with Intimidate.
- Because redirection support is vital to allow Volcarona to obtain boosts and be effect, Jirachi and Amoonguss can support Volcarona very well with Follow Me and Rage Powder, respectively. Amoonguss stacks the Flying weakness, which makes dealing with Talonflame more difficult, however using Amoonguss also allows you to setup in the face of Waters more easily. In addition, Clefairy is an alternative that helps against opposing spread moves with Friend Guard whilst also redirecting single-target moves.
- Quick Guard users such as Keldeo and Scrafty can help against Thunder Waves from Thundurus and Brave Birds from Talonflame.
- Wide Guard users such as Aegislash and Conkeldurr can really help because Volcarona struggles against spread moves such as Rock Slide, Earthquake, and Muddy Water.
- Water-types such as Keldeo and Rotom-Wash can take care of Fire-types which Volcarona can't hit. Other Pokemon that can get rid of Fire-types are Mega Diancie and Landorus-Therian.
- Pokemon that can beat common Dragon-types, such as Mega Diancie and Mega Gardevoir, are good partners if Volcarona isn't using Bug Buzz.
- Rock-types and allies with Rock-type coverage moves provide fantastic offensive synergy along with Volcarona's strong Fire and Grass coverage. Mega Diancie, Terrakion, and Landorus-Therian all help Volcarona's sweeping potential by beating Fire-types such as Mega Charizard Y, Heatran, and Talonflame while Volcarona eliminates opposing Steel-types such as Aegislash and Jirachi for them.
- Electric-types such as Thundurus, Zapdos, and Rotom-W can deal with both Flying- and Water-types which could hit Volcarona super effectively.
- Intimidate users such as Landorus-T and Scrafty can help Volcarona, to make Volcarona take physical hits a bit easier.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
- Fiery Dance can be used as your Fire STAB move to have another way to obtain boosts.
- Hidden Power Ground can be useful to get surprise KOs on Heatran, but it will usually be very costly as you have to move out one of your other coverage moves.
- A Sitrus Berry set with added bulk (160 HP / 16 Def / 148 SpA / 184 Spe) allows you to live Mega Kangaskhan's Return.
- Coba Berry allows Volcarona to live a Talonflame Brave Bird, but this is usually redundant considering the fact Volcarona has trouble dealing any damage back to Talonflame.
- Charcoal has no recoil like Life Orb, but you miss out on some damage, especially on your second move, considering Charcoal will only boost your Fire STAB move.
- Volcarona can serve as a redirector with Flame Body, using Rage Powder / Overheat / Tailwind / Protect and a spread of 224 HP / 76 Def / 100 SpA / 108 Spe, but its offensive assets are usually too helpful to pass up.
- Rocky Helmet is a good option on this set, as Rocky Helmet synergizes well with its Flame Body ability.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Typing Advantage**: Fire-types such as Heatran and Talonflame resist both of its STAB attacks, which makes it Substitute bait for Heatran and simply fodder for Talonflame. Before setting up with Quiver Dance, Volcarona can be easily threatened by opposing Water- and Rock-type moves such as Mega Diancie's Diamond Storm, Keldeo's Hydro Pump, and Landorus-Therian's Rock Slide and Earthquake. If it is using Giga Drain as second move, Volcarona has trouble hitting Dragon-types such as Latios and Hydreigon.

**Speed Control**: Opposing formes of Speed Control such as Tailwind, Thunder Wave, and Trick Room, can often times be tough to deal with for Volcarona, especially considering Volcarona's added speed from Quiver Dance can be nullified.

**Speed**: Talonflame can easily deal with Volcarona with priority Brave Birds. Also, Choice Scarfed Landorus-T can easily KO Volcarona with Rock Slide before Volcarona sets up.

**Strong Physical Attackers**: Volcarona's poor physical defense leaves it vulnerable to powerful physical attackers, such as Mega Kangaskhan and Hoopa-Unbound.

[OVERVIEW]

Volcarona is an unique attacker because it is the only viable Quiver Dance user in the tier, which in combination with great STAB moves in Fire Blast and Heat Wave, decent coverage against Water- and Rock-types in Giga Drain, and high Special Attack and Speed enables it to be a powerful special attacker. Its Speed allows it to Speed tie with Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Gardevoir and more importantly lets it outspeed many threats, such as Choice Scarf Landorus-T, once it has one Quiver Dance boost. Despite its okay HP and Special Defense, Volcarona is physically frail, so it struggles against powerful physical attackers such as Mega Kangaskhan and Talonflame, even though the former can be burned by Flame Body. Also, it has a tough time hitting Fire-types such as Mega Charizard Y and Heatran. Even though it has access to Giga Drain for Water- and Rock-types such as Keldeo, Mega Diancie, Terrakion, and Rhyperior, Volcarona still struggles against these Pokemon unless boosted by Quiver Dance.

Moves
========

Heat Wave is a STAB spread move that can take out two foes at the same time, which is especially useful after Volcarona sets up with Quiver Dance. Volcarona can also use Fire Blast over Heat Wave, which makes it more threatening without a boost, most notably letting it OHKO Amoonguss and having a high chance to OHKO Aegislash. The power increase relative to Heat Wave is also helpful at +1, as it guarantees that Volcarona can outspeed and OHKO Choice Scarf Landorus-T. However, running Fire Blast over Heat Wave forces Volcarona to forgo its source of spread damage, even though Fire Blast isn't blocked by Wide Guard. Giga Drain allows Volcarona to beat Water-types such as Keldeo and Suicune while also dealing with Rock-types such as Mega Diancie and Rhyperior. It is also useful for Volcarona to regain some of the HP it has lost from potential Life Orb recoil. Bug Buzz can also be used over Giga Drain if your team is vulnerable to Dragon-types, such as Latios and Hydreigon. It is also a powerful STAB move that goes through Substitutes, which helps against users such as Kyurem-B. Quiver Dance allows Volcarona to become a threatening Pokemon once it manages to set up. The Special Defense boost can also come in handy versus slower special attackers such as Rotom-W and Aegislash. Lastly, Protect is a staple move in Doubles that is used to stall out field conditions such as Tailwind and Trick Room or to protect Volcarona from taking damage while its partner deals with the foes.

Set Details
========

Life Orb lets Volcarona do more damage in general, notably allowing it to OHKO Aegislash with Fire Blast. Life Orb Volcarona also has a good chance to OHKO Landorus-T with Heat Wave after one Quiver Dance boost, but Lum Berry is also useful for absorbing one Thunder Wave from Thundurus or Spore from Breloom or Amoonguss, allowing Volcarona to more easily fulfill its role. While Life Orb is helpful for Heat Wave Volcarona to clean up an opposing team, Lum Berry synergizes well with Fire Blast, as the power boost isn't quite as necessary, and the extra utility helps Fire Blast Volcarona because it cannot remove two threats at once. Flame Body is useful to burn foes using contact moves that don't KO Volcarona, such as Fake Out from Mega Kangaskhan and Sucker Punch from Mega Kangaskhan and Bisharp. However, it should be noted that Talonflame can't be burned by Flame Body and many attacks that Volcarona is threatened by, such as Earthquake and Rock Slide, are non-contact moves. The given Speed investment allows Volcarona to outspeed Deoxys-A and Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T after one Quiver Dance boost and Speed tie with other maximum Speed base 100s when unboosted, such as Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Gardevoir, while maximum Special Attack investment allows it to do as much damage as possible. An alternative spread of 40 Def / 240 SpA / 228 Spe can also be run to let Volcarona survive Rock Slide from Landorus-T at -1 Attack, while still outspeeding Deoxys-A and Mega Aerodactyl after a single Quiver Dance boost. It should, however, be noted that this spread should only be used together with Lum Berry, as Life Orb does not mesh with the defensive benchmarks well.

Usage Tips
========

Volcarona functions best as a late-game sweeper, and once its checks are gone it can easily set up Quiver Dance and clean the rest of the game with powerful attacks. Volcarona should always look out for opportunities to easily set up Quiver Dance, such as when the foes have trouble harming it, such as Amoonguss and Aegislash, or when teammates can support it with Fake Out and redirection moves such as Follow Me and Rage Powder. If Volcarona can take out a threat with either its Fire-type STAB move or Giga Drain, it should use Giga Drain to improve its situation going into the following turn by healing some HP.

Team Options
========

Fake Out support makes setting up a lot easier for Volcarona. Common Fake Out users are Mega Kangaskhan and Scrafty, and the latter can also support Volcarona by weakening physical attackers with Intimidate. As redirection support is extremely useful to allow Volcarona to obtain boosts and be effective, Jirachi and Amoonguss make for great partners, as they can support Volcarona very well with Follow Me and Rage Powder, respectively. Using Amoonguss also allows Volcarona to set up in the face of Water-types more easily, and Amoonguss deals with Landorus-T better than Jirachi does. Jirachi, however, resists Flying-type attacks such as Talonflame's Brave Bird, which makes it a better redirection user in many cases. Clefairy is an alternative Follow Me user that also helps against opposing spread moves with Friend Guard. Quick Guard users such as Keldeo and Scrafty can help against priority moves such as Thundurus's Thunder Wave, Talonflame's Brave Bird, and Mega Kangaskhan's Sucker Punch. Wide Guard users such as Aegislash and Conkeldurr can help Volcarona because it struggles against super effective spread moves such as Rock Slide, Earthquake, and Muddy Water. Water-types such as Keldeo and Rotom-W can take care of Fire-types, which Volcarona can't hit. Rock-types and allies with Rock-type coverage moves provide fantastic offensive synergy with Volcarona's strong Fire- and Grass-type coverage. Ground- and Rock-types such as Mega Diancie, Terrakion, and Landorus-T all help Volcarona's sweeping potential by beating Fire-types such as Mega Charizard Y, Heatran, and Talonflame, while Volcarona eliminates opposing Steel-types such as Aegislash and Jirachi for them. Pokemon that can beat common Dragon-types, such as Mega Diancie and Mega Gardevoir, are good partners if Volcarona isn't using Bug Buzz. Electric-types such as Thundurus, Zapdos, and Rotom-W can deal with both Flying- and Water-types, which can hit Volcarona super effectively. Lastly, Intimidate users such as Landorus-T and Scrafty can help Volcarona take physical hits more easily.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Fiery Dance can be used as Volcarona's Fire-type STAB move for another way to obtain boosts, although it is weaker than both Fiery Dance and Fire Blast. Hidden Power Ground can be useful to get a surprise KO on Heatran, but it must replace another coverage move and thus will usually be very costly. A Sitrus Berry set with a 160 HP / 16 Def / 148 SpA / 184 Spe spread for added bulk allows Volcarona to survive Mega Kangaskhan's Return. Coba Berry allows Volcarona to survive Talonflame's Brave Bird, but this is usually redundant considering that Volcarona has trouble dealing any damage back to Talonflame. Charcoal boosts the power of Fire-type moves without recoil, unlike Life Orb, but you miss out on some damage, especially with Volcarona's coverage move. Volcarona can also serve as a redirection user by taking advantage of Flame Body, using a set of Rage Powder / Overheat / Tailwind / Protect and a spread of 224 HP / 76 Def / 100 SpA / 108 Spe, but its offensive assets are usually too helpful to pass up. Rocky Helmet is a good option on such a set, as it synergizes well with Flame Body and allows Volcarona to somewhat make up for its vulnerability to physical attacks. However, Volcarona's physical bulk is mediocre even if invested, which makes it outclassed as a redirection user by Pokemon such as Amoonguss or Jirachi.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Typing Advantage**: Fire-types such as Heatran and Talonflame resist both of Volcarona's STAB attacks, which makes it Substitute bait for Heatran and fodder for Talonflame, which can KO it easily with STAB Brave Bird. Before setting up with Quiver Dance, Volcarona can easily be threatened by opposing Water- and Rock-type moves such as Mega Diancie's Diamond Storm, Keldeo's Hydro Pump, and Landorus-T's Rock Slide and Earthquake. If it is using Giga Drain instead of Bug Buzz, Volcarona also has trouble hitting Dragon-types such as Latios and Hydreigon.

**Speed Control**: Opposing forms of speed control such as Tailwind, Thunder Wave, and Trick Room can be tough to deal with for Volcarona because its Speed boosts from Quiver Dance can be nullified, which makes it a less potent sweeper.

**Speed**: Talonflame can easily deal with Volcarona with priority Brave Bird, while Choice Scarf Landorus-T can easily KO Volcarona with Rock Slide before it sets up. Volcarona also has to look out for Sucker Punch from Mega Kangaskhan and Bisharp, even though it can burn them with Flame Body.

**Strong Physical Attackers**: Volcarona's poor Defense leaves it vulnerable to powerful physical attackers such as Mega Kangaskhan and Hoopa-U.

Overview
  • remember not to specifically mention its base speed of 100, as the dex lists that at the top of the page.
  • the good thing about its base speed tier isnt that its able to speed tie with kangaskhan (as it is very unlikely that you will be hitting a kangaskhan when unboosted,) but that it can outspeed many speedy threats, such as scarfed landorus, when boosted.
  • dont mention specific base spa of 135, i can find that at the top of the dex.
  • dont mention running hp ground here, as it is not on the set. save it for other options.
  • saying that "volcarona loses to water types without giga drain" should be reworded to reflect that giga drain isnt slashed with anything else on its slot on the set. instead, say something along the lines of how it has access to ample coverage to tough through water types and diancie in giga drain.
Moves
  • it would be more accurate to say that fire blast guarantees the ohko on landorus, as life orb heat wave actually does ohko landorus on a decent roll (81.3% chance with spread.)
  • volcarona doesnt primarily need protect to stall out the sun, it would be more accurate to say that it lets it stall out trick room and tailwind.
Set Details
  • life orb also allows volcarona to ohko landorus on a roll after one boost, this is worth mentioning
  • mention that with 252 speed, volcarona is able to outspeed adamant scarfed landorus and deoxys-a after one boost while max spa allows it to do as much damage as possible, which is very important for setup sweepers.
Team Options
  • emphasize that redirection support is vital in order to allow volcarona to grab boosts and be effective.
  • clefable is not very relevant, you could mention amoonguss in place of this. clefairy is ok
  • rock types and allies with rock coverage provide fantastic offensive synergy along with volcarona's strong fire-grass coverage. mega diancie, terrakion, and landorus-therian all help volcarona's sweep by beating opposing fire types such as chary, heatran, and talonflame while volcarona eliminates opposing steels such as aegislash and jirachi for them. you can remove the 6th and 7th bullets in place of this one.
  • you can remove mega abomasnow, it doesnt seem like a good partner bc it stacks weaknesses and mega abomasnow should really only be used on trick room.
Checks & Counters
  • add a **Speed** tag that mentions that talonflame can ignore volcarona's boosts and outspeed + ohko with a brave bird
  • change strong attackers to **Strong Physical Attackers** and remove being threatened by latios and hydreigon, it doesnt really care about their attacks as much as it cares about physical attacks.

Overview
  • Replace the Bug Buzz mention with Heat Wave, since it doesn't have a slash
  • Since Terrakion is still decently common and Rhydon/Rhyperior aren't super rare, replace "Mega Diancie" with "Rock-types" when talking about what Giga does for Volc
Moves
  • Your Fire Blast bullet point is kind of confusing right now. Try something like this: "Fire Blast allows Volcarona to be more threatening without a boost, notably OHKO'ing Amoonguss and Aegislash. The power increase is also helpful at +1, guaranteeing that Choice Scarf Landorus-T is outsped and OHKO'd. However, running this over Heat Wave forces Volcarona to forgo its source of spread damage, which can be very helpful as a setup attacker."
  • Mention that Giga also heals off any Life Orb recoil that Volcarona may have sustained
  • Bug Buzz also goes around Substitutes, so that can be helpful against Kyurem-B or Mega Latias
Set Details
  • Remove the word "also" in the first bullet point, since LO is the first item you're talking about
  • In general, the analysis should recommend Life Orb and Heat Wave going together and Lum Berry going with Fire Blast. Life Orb Fire Blast is nice for the Aegis OHKO at +1, but for the most part the other arrangements of moves / items will be most effective.
  • Lum doesn't "block" TWave and Spore, it absorbs them. That's an important distinction to make because "block" implies that it sticks around after removing one status condition
  • When talking about the alternate spread, make note that it should only be used in conjunction with Lum Berry, since defensive benchmarks and Life Orb don't mesh well.
    • Also, the alternate spread should be 40 Def / 240 SpA / 228 Spe, which still outruns Deo-A and Mega Aero after the boost while investing as much as possible into SpA
Usage Tips
  • If Volcarona can take out a threat with either its Fire STAB or Giga Drain, it should use Giga Drain to improve its situation going into the following turn.
Team Options
  • A specific bullet point should be included about adding an Intimidate user to the team to patch up Volcarona's low Defense stat, since it cannot bolster that stat with Quiver Dance
  • Electric types such as Rotom-W and Zapdos deal with both Flying- and Water-types that could hit Volc supereffectively.
Other Options
  • Mention that Rocky Helmet is an option, especially on the redirector set, as the damage taken by contact attackers synergizes well with Flame Body burns.
Checks and Counters
  • looks good fam

Do that^ and then let me know so that I can send you off to write this up!

The only problem I had was this point:
In general, the analysis should recommend Life Orb and Heat Wave going together and Lum Berry going with Fire Blast. Life Orb Fire Blast is nice for the Aegis OHKO at +1, but for the most part the other arrangements of moves / items will be most effective.

I don't really know how I should word it, it looks ugly if you add "You should use Fire Blast with Lum Berry, and Heat Wave with Life Orb."

After talking about Lum Berry, add this bullet point (which will I guess become just a sentence when you write it up):
"While Life Orb is helpful for Volcarona that use Heat Wave to clean up an opposing team, Lum Berry synergizes well with Fire Blast, as the power boost isn't quite as necessary, and the extra utility helps it, as Fire Blast Volcarona cannot remove two threats at once."

Looks good, QC 2/3 and write it up!

Mainly nitpicks, check with me after implementing before I give 3/3.

Overview
  • Capitalize Special Attack and Speed.
  • You mention Water-types but don't actually give any examples (just add in an example like Keldeo).
  • At the end of the point about beating Rock- and Water-types with Giga Drain, mention that Volcarona struggles with them unboosted.
Moves
  • "It can also use Fire Blast" - this kind of implies you're using both Heat Wave and Fire Blast at the same time so maybe adjust a little.
  • Mention for Fire Blast that it hits a single target stronger and isn't stopped by Wide Guard.
  • Remove mention of Mega Latias when talking about Bug Buzz, it really isn't a relevant Pokemon.
Set Details
  • Remove mention of requiring LO to OHKO Mega Diancie with Giga Drain since that's only for +0, where it will outspeed and KO you with Diamond Storm anyways.
  • "which is very important for setup sweepers" - remove this as it's filler.
  • Mention that max Speed lets you Speed tie with other max Speed neutral nature base 100s such as Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Gardevoir.
Usage Tips
  • "Useful support for Volcarona is mentioned in the Team Option section." - remove this as this is filler and implied from the subheading.
  • Specify on how teammates "can support it" i.e. Fake Out and redirection.
  • Give examples of the type of Pokemon Volcarona likes to set up on (e.g. Amoonguss and Aegislash).
Team Options
  • Saying that redirection is "vital" for Volcarona to set up is a bit of an overstatement, change to something like "extremely useful". Also change the "Because" at the start of this sentence to "As".
  • "Amoonguss stacks the Flying weakness, which makes dealing with Talonflame more difficult" - This is said a bit strangely. Instead say that Jirachi resists Flying, which helps deal with Talonflame better. That helps clarify the point of what Jirachi does better and so helps the comparison. Also mention Amoonguss deals with Landorus-T better.
  • Change "Brave Birds from Talonflame" to something like "priority attacks such as Sucker Punch and Talonflame's Brave Bird" imo since Quick Guard does also help with those.
  • "Other Pokemon that can get rid of Fire-types are Mega Diancie and Landorus-Therian" - remove this as you mention them just a little later with other examples.
  • "if Volcarona isn't using Bug Buzz" - believe convention is not to talk about set-details-but-not-a-slash moves such as this elsewhere, but will need to check.
Other Options
  • Mention that Fiery Dance is weaker than Fire Blast.
  • For the Rage Powder set mention that a majory flaw is Volcarona's weakness to physical attacks.
Checks and Counters
  • Mention Talonflame's Flying-type as this is what allows it to OHKO Volcarona.
  • Under the Speed tag, mention Sucker Punch from Mega Kangaskhan and Bisharp.

Heat Wave is a STAB spread move that can take out two opponents at the same time which is especially useful after setting up with Quiver Dance. It can alsoVolcarona can use A point similar to the previous wasn't mentioned, so I don't see the point of saying "also" Fire Blast over Heat Wave which makes it more threatening without a boost, most notably OHKO'ing Amoonguss and having a high chance to OHKO Aegislash. The power increase is helpful at +1 as it guarantees that it can outspeed and OHKO Choice Scarf Landorus-T. However, running this over Heat Wave forces Volcarona to forgo its source of spread damage, but Fire Blast doesn't get blocked by Wide Guard. Giga Drain allows it to beat Water-types such as Keldeo and Suicune, while also dealing with Rock-types such as Mega Diancie and Rhyperior. It is also useful to regain some of the HP it has lost from Life Orb recoil. Bug Buzz can also be used over Giga Drain if your team is weak to Dragon-types (Bug Buzz is neutral against Dragon-types though.., most notably Latios and Hydreigon). It is also a powerful STAB move which goes through Substitutes, which helps against users such as Kyurem-B. Volcarona isof the monly viable Quiver Dance user, whi Just to be more specific :) such combined with its high Speed and Special Attack allows it to be a strong special attackerKyurem-B. Life Orb iallows Volca strong itema to doeal more damage in general. With Life Orb, (AC) you can OHKO Aegislash with Fire Blast as well. ItVolcarona also has a good chance to OHKO Landorus-T with Heat Wave after one Quiver Dance boost, but. Lum Berry is also useful for absorbing Thunder Waves by Thundurus and Spores by Breloom and Amoonguss once. This allows it to fulfill its role more easily. While Life Orb is helpful for Volcarona that use Heat Wave to clean up an opposing team, Lum Berry synergizes well with Fire Blast, as the power boost isn't quite as necessary, and the extra utility helps it, as Fire Blast Volcarona cannot remove two threats at once. Flame Body is useful to burn opponents with contact moves that don't KO Volcarona, such as Fake Out from Mega Kangaskhan, or Sucker Punch from Mega Kangaskhan and Bisharp. However, it should be noted that Talonflame can't be burned by Flame Body and many attacks that Volcarona is threatened by, (such as Earthquake and Rock Slide), are actually non-contact. The spread allows Volcarona to outspeed Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Deoxys-A after one Quiver Dance boost and being able toto Speed tie versuswith other max Speed base 100s, such as Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Gardevoir before Quiver Dance boosts, (AC) while max Special Attack allows it to do as much damage as possible. An alternative spread of 40 Def / 240 SpA / 228 Spe can also be run to let Volcarona live Rock Slide from Landorus-Therian at -1, while still outspeeding Deoxys-A and Mega Aerodactyl after a single Quiver Dance boost. IHowever, it should however be noted that this spread should only be used together with a Lum Berry, as a Life Orb does not mesh together with the defensive benchmarks well.

Usage Tips

space
Volcarona functions best as a late -game (AH) sweeper, and once its checks are gone, (AC) it can easily set(space)up Quiver Dance and clean up the rest of the game with powerful attacks. Volcarona should always look out for opportunities to easily set(space)up Quiver Dance, such as when the opponents haves 2 Pokemon out on the field that have trouble harming it such as Amoonguss and Aegislash, or when teammates can support it, wih Fake Out and redirection moves such as Follow Me and Rage Powder, as this' will make it easier for Volcarona to set(space)up with Quiver Dance. If Volcarona can take out a threat with either its Fire STAB moves or Giga Drain, it should use Giga Drain to improve its situation going into the following turn, by healing some HP.

Fake Out support makes setting up with Volcarona a lot easier. Common Fake Out users are Mega Kangaskhan and Scrafty, where the latter can also support Volcarona by weakening physical attackers with Intimidate. As redirection support is extremely useful to allow Volcarona to obtain boosts and be effective, Jirachi and Amoonguss can support Volcarona very well with Follow Me and Rage Powder, respectively. Using Amoonguss also allows you to set(space)up in the face of Water-types more easily. Jirachi, however, resists Flying-type attacks such as Talonflame's Brave Bird which makes it a better redirector in many cases. Amoonguss deals with Landorus-T better, though. In addition, Clefairy is an alternative that helps against opposing spread moves with Friend Guard whilst also redirecting single-target moves. Quick Guard users such as Keldeo and Scrafty can help against priority moves susch as Thundurus's Thunder Wave, Talonflame's Brave Bird, and Sucker Punch from Mega Kangaskhan. Wide Guard users such as Aegislash and Conkeldurr can really help because Volcarona struggles against spread moves such as Rock Slide, Earthquake, and Muddy Water. Water-types such as Keldeo and Rotom-Wash can take care of Fire-types which Volcarona can't hit. Rock-types and allies with Rock-type coverage moves provide fantastic offensive synergy along with Volcarona's strong Fire and Grass coverage. Pokemon that can beat common Dragon-types, such as Mega Diancie and Mega Gardevoir, are good partners if Volcarona isn't using Bug Buzz. Electric-types such as Thundurus, Zapdos, and Rotom-W can deal with both Flying- and Water-types which could hit Volcarona super effectively. Lastly, Intimidate users such as Landorus-T and Scrafty can help Volcarona, to makehelp Volcarona take physical hits a bit easier.

Fiery Dance can be used as your Fire STAB move to have another way to obtain boosts, although it is weaker than Fire Blast. Hidden Power Ground can be useful to get surprise KOs on Heatran, but it will usually be very costly as you have to move out one of your other coverage moves. A Sitrus Berry set with added bulk (, and a spread of 160 HP / 16 Def / 148 SpA / 184 Spe) allows you to live Mega Kangaskhan's Return. Coba Berry allows Volcarona to live a Talonflame's Brave Bird, but this is usually redundant considering the fact Volcarona has trouble dealing any damage back to Talonflame. Charcoal has no recoil unlike Life Orb, but you miss out on some damage, especially on your second moveGiga Drain name the move, considering Charcoal will only boost your Fire STAB move. As an alternative set, (AC) Volcarona can serve as a redirector with Flame Body, using Rage Powder / Overheat / Tailwind / Protect and a spread of 224 HP / 76 Def / 100 SpA / 108 Spe, but its offensive assets are usually too helpful to pass up. Rocky Helmet is a good option on this set, as Rocky Helmet synergizes well with its Flame Body ability, and one of Volcarona's major flaws is its weakness to physical attacks, which makes it very outclassed.

**Typing Advantage**: Fire-types such as Heatran and Talonflame resist both of its STAB attacks, which makes it Substitute bait for Heatran and simply fodder for Talonflame, (AC) which can KO it easily with STAB Brave Birds. Before setting up with Quiver Dance, Volcarona can be easily threatened by opposing Water- and Rock-type moves such as Mega Diancie's Diamond Storm, Keldeo's Hydro Pump, and Landorus-Therian's Rock Slide and Earthquake. If it is using Giga Drain as the second move, Volcarona has trouble hitting Dragon-types such as Latios and Hydreigon.

**Speed Control**: Opposing formes of Sspeed Ccontrol such as Tailwind, Thunder Wave, and Trick Room, can often times be toughdifficult to deal with for Volcarona, especially considering Volcarona's added speed from Quiver Dance can be nullified.

**Speed**: Talonflame can easily deal with Volcarona with priority Brave Birds. Also, Choice Scarfed Landorus-T can easily KO Volcarona with Rock Slide before Volcarona sets up. Volcarona also has to look out for Sucker Punches from Mega Kangaskhan and Bisharp, even though it can burn them with Flame Body.

**Strong Physical Attackers**: Volcarona's poor physical dDefense leaves it vulnerable to powerful physical attackers, such as Mega Kangaskhan and Hoopa-Unbound.

Hey there Sobi, thanks for the super quick GP check. I like the pretty pink but I'm having a bit of trouble seeing it sometimes. Also what do you mean when (AH) in the beginning of the Usage Tips section?

[OVERVIEW]
Volcarona is an unique attacker, as because it is the only viable Quiver Dance user in the tier, which in combination with great STAB moves in Fire Blast and Heat Wave, decent coverage against Water- and Rock-types with in Giga Drain, and high Special Attack and Speed which enables it to be a powerful special attacker. Its Speed allows it to Speed tie with Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Gardevoir, more importantly being able to and more importantly lets it outspeed (the subject is Volcarona's Speed, but its Speed doesn't outspeed anything) many threats, (comma) such as Choice Scarf Landorus-T, (comma) once it has one Quiver Dance boost. Quiver Danced. (clarity) Despite its okay HP and Special Defense, (comma) it Volcarona is physically frail, which makes so it struggles against powerful physical attackers such as Mega Kangaskhan and Talonflame, even though the former can be burned by Flame Body. Also, it has a tough time hitting Fire-types such as Mega Charizard Y and Heatran. It also has access to ample coverage to tough through Water-types such as Keldeo and Rock-types such as Mega Diancie, Terrakion, and Rhyperior with Giga Drain. (this is a positive point, disrupting the flow of the overview, so I integrated it with the earlier mention of Giga Drain) Even though it has Giga Drain for Water- and Rock-types such as Keldeo, Mega Diancie, Terrakion, and Rhyperior, Volcarona will still struggles against these Pokemon unless boosted by Quiver Dance.

Heat Wave is a STAB spread move that can take out two opponents foes (opponent for the human player, foe/enemy for the opposing Pokemon) at the same time, (comma) which is especially useful after Volcarona sets setting up with Quiver Dance. It Volcarona can also use Fire Blast over Heat Wave, (comma) which makes it more threatening without a boost, most notably letting it OHKOing (remove apostrophe) Amoonguss and having have a high chance to OHKO Aegislash. The power increase relative to Heat Wave is also helpful at +1, (comma) as it guarantees that it Volcarona can outspeed and OHKO Choice Scarf Landorus-T. However, running this Fire Blast over Heat Wave forces Volcarona to forgo its source of spread damage, but even though Fire Blast doesn't get isn't blocked by Wide Guard. Giga Drain allows it Volcarona to beat Water-types such as Keldeo and Suicune, (remove comma) while also dealing with Rock-types such as Mega Diancie and Rhyperior. It is also useful for Volcarona to regain some of the HP it has lost from potential Life Orb recoil. (Lum Berry is also slashed) Bug Buzz can also be used over Giga Drain if your team is weak vulnerable to Dragon-types, such as Latios and Hydreigon. (most notably Latios and Hydreigon). (no need to use a parenthetical here) It is also a powerful STAB move which that goes through Substitutes, which helps against users such as Kyurem-B. (I would discuss Slashed moves first) Volcarona is the only viable Quiver Dance user in the tier, which combined with its high Speed and Special Attack allows it to be a strong special attacker. The Special Defense boost can also come in handy versus slower special attackers such as Rotom-Wash and Aegislash. And Lastly, Protect is a staple move in Doubles that is used to stall out field conditions such as Tailwind and Trick Room, (remove comma) or to protect yourself Volcarona from taking damage while your its partners deal with the threat. ("you" refers to the player, not the Pokemon that's the subject of the set)

just wanna pop in, and say that "Volcarona is an unique attacker..." should be "Volcarona is a unique attacker...", because the word 'unique' is pronounced with a "yoo" sound, as if it starts with the letter 'y', which is a consonant, not a vowel. Also, from this Grammar Girl article:
Use a before words that start with a consonant sound and an before words that start with a vowel sound.
So just thought I'd let you know n_n
