We Like it Here.

Hey everyone, Shaian here, bringing another RMT for doubles. This is a team I sorta threw together in about a half hour, but its come out as an incredibly solid team, focused around maximizing offensive output and covering each weakness in the team. Normally I resolve to build a team around a single pokemon and see how I can make it fit, but this time I decided to build around an offensive core and go from the groundUP. So without further ado, I bring to you "We Like it Here".

Teambuilding Process:
So at the beginning, I decided I want to build around Sylveon and Charizard Y. Charizard neutralizes most steel types (bar Heatran) that threaten Sylveon, and Sylveon covers the Dragons that have a field day against Charizard. Between the two of them, theres enough offensive output to beat most things in the meta. Also between the two of them I can hit 7 types for Super-Effective, and have a reliable switch in for 11 types.

But the main issue with this core is that Heatran is still one of the most common and potent threats in the metagame. It became apparent that I needed to have something to check it. I debated with myself as to whether or not I wanted to use Landorus-T, and eventually caved and went with it. Though I used it for reasons other than the scarf-set which didn't do what I wanted it to.

It was at this point I noticed a rather glaring weakness to rain teams emerging and I sought out a solution to the problem. I was tempted to run Ludicolo because it's an amazing pokemon, both aesthetically and in how well it works in the doubles meta. But instead I opted for more power, a Charizard and Talon check, and an all around fiend. Yep, I went with Thundurus-T. Not I, T.

Next thing on my list was a Trick Room check. I also still needed to cover Psychic types, Ghost types and Fairy types on my list of things I needed to hit hard af. That brought me to Bisharp, a pokemon that looks way too cool and has a mean Sucker Punch, though I could have just as easily gone for Aegislash and been alright. The main incentives for Bisharp > Aegis for me was access to Knock Off and Defiant.

Last but not least, I needed a sun user to take advantage of Charizards Drought, as well as help shore my team up against Rain Teams. That naturally drew me to Venusaur, who possesses decent defense and offense, and can become a major threat once the sun starts shining. It also helps keeps pesky rock types away from Charizard, and Rotoms and other water types away from Landorus, and can be a real annoyance by spreading sleep around the opponents team, which is useful against Trick Room teams.

The Team:

Sakuya (Sylveon) (F) @ Life OrbAbility: Pixilate
EVs: 36 HP / 252 SpA / 220 Spd
Modest Nature
IVs: 1 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spd
- Hyper Voice
- Protect
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Moonblast

Starting off immediately with a surprise fast Sylveon. Sylveon is a pokemon that is as powerful as it is aesthetically pleasing, which pretty much means "damn this thing is strong". Hyper Voice is there for tearing through frailer threats and dragons that have the guts to stay in on this pink demon cat. Protect is there for scouting and stalling out, if need be. Hidden Power ground is another change from the usual Psyshock. It makes me a bit weaker to Amoong, but it lets me hit Heatran hard. Moonblast is there to get around pesky Wide Guard Hitmontops. The IVs allow for maximum strength Hidden Power and also minimize the amount of damage Sylveon takes from confusion. The EVs allow for maximum offensive output, but also allow Sylveon to outrun 80 Spd Heatran, letting it get in a strong Hidden Power before Tran attacks or sets up a Sub.

Canada (Charizard) (M) @ Charizardite-Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 244 SpA / 108 Spd / 156 Def
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heatwave
- Solarbeam
- Protect
- Overheat

Standard Charizard-Y set, though I opted for Modest over Timid because I preferred the damage output and my general opinion is that the 100 Spd tie is an annoying gamble. Solarbeam to tackle water types like Rotom, as well as nailing Ground and Rock types. Overheat, aka the nuke, is for OHKO'ing Kangas, or putting the final nail in the coffin for a lot of other bulky mons. Modest, sun-boosted Overheat is an insanely powerful attack. Protect for scouting.

Fido

Fido (Landorus-Therian) (M) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 184 HP / 236 SpA / 88 Spd
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Earth Power
- Stone Edge

Another doubles team with Scarf Land... wait what? Special Landorus-T? The hell, just use Landorus-I man. Nah, Scarf-Lando, is in my opinion (and probably everyone elses) the best set for this fiend, but for this team, it wasn't the best fit. I wanted something to set up Stealth Rocks, spread Intimidate and check Landos and ohko Charizard. This was the only thing I could come up with. Stealth Rock is a move not commonly seen in doubles, which is a little bit surprising, but it works just fine. Once rocks are up, opposing Charizards become trapped which is a godsend, it also turns moves that would be 2hkos due to sashes or Sturdy into OHKO's and means that opposing Thundurus, Tornadus or Zapdos (think flying type) can't switch in and out at whim. Hidden Power Ice is for nailing Scarf Lando, Chomps, Dragonites after rocks and Salamence hard. Earth Power for Ground stab and for being a secondary Heatran check. Stone Edge for Charizard and Talon.

Taste the Rainbow (Thundurus-Therian) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 32 HP / 252 SpA / 224 Spd
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Ah there we go, a Scarfed Genie. The universe has righted itself, sorta. Thundurus-T is a potent threat and fills various roles on my team. Against rain, it goes out of its way to put holes against its opponents, nailing even the bulkiest Politoed for a 2HKO. Volt Switch is for scouting, working similar to U-Turn on Landorus-T. Focus Blast is a move I hate so so so much, but I can't deny the power it has, being able to OHKO terrakion. Hidden Power Ice is for surprise killing Scarf Lando. The 252 is for maximum power, and the speed EV's let it outrun Deo-A with a scarf and the rest are dumped into HP.

GZA
bisharp.gif
bisharp.gif

GZA (Bisharp) (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Taunt
- Knock Off

Bisharp is coming through, the Sucker Punch is critical! Sending out Intimidate is sorta like a miracle, with Defiant boosts shit dies like a serial killa. Gaming the boosts, send out yo' charizard? Punch, shit dead like what the hella? I can't rap... Anyway, I opted for a slightly bulkier Bisharp over 252/252 but I put in enough speed to speed creep speed creeping Rotom, so I can at least Knock Off its item before taking the burn. Iron Head to kill fairies, Taunt to stop burns, gimmick setups and even surprise Thundy because they don't usually expect Bisharp to Taunt them. Knock Off for that powerful first hit, putting in huge damage on Cresselia, messing up EZiolite users and removing items in general. YOU BEST PROTECT YA' NECK.

Pines

venusaur.gif

Pines (Venusaur) (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 64 HP / 252 SpA / 192 Spd
Modest Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Protect

Pretty much standard Chlorosaur set. Opted for a Focus Sash over a Life Orb because it lets me absorb a hit and put whatever attacked to sleep. The EV's let it outrun Deo-A in the sun, outrun ScarfDog in the sun, and the usual, hit as hard as possible and then just dumped into HP for bulk. Honestly, weather abusers using 252/252 are just wasting EV's, if you ask me. They will very rarely be outrun in the weather they use, so why not just outrun what you need to and then shore up bulk, ya dig? Sleep Powder is the most important move, because when it hits, it becomes such a frustrating hurdle for the opponent. Unfortunately the reverse is true as well, if it's not hitting, that sucks. Giga Drain for recovery and hitting Ground, Rock, Water types hard. Sludge Bomb for opposing grass types and fairies. Protect for scouting and safety.

Hey, Shaian! I'm seriously loving this RMT; great format and well constructed, not to mention the team itself is very solid. I especially love your idea of utilizing a Special Attacking Landorus-T as it comes with a surprise factor that can shift the momentum of the match in your favor. There isn't really anything I need to say to help this team improve significantly, but I do have just a few minor suggestions that can potentially help you out in the future. Oh, thanks for the cool shoutout, by the way. :]

Seeing as you don't intend to give Mega Charizard Y a Timid nature to speed tie the base 100 Pokemon such as Mega Kangaskhan, I suggest giving him an EV spread of 156 Def / 244 SpA / 108 Spe instead. This allows Charizard to survive a Return from Jolly Mega Kangaskhan 100% of the time with the 156 Defense EVs invested, and the 108 Speed EVs enable him to outspeed the base 70 Pokemon (Breloom and Bisharp) by a point. I'd also like to add that even though I took 8 EVs away from his Special Attack stat (which isn't too significant), Charizard will still be able to OHKO Mega Kangaskhan with STAB Overheat.

252 Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Return vs. 0 HP / 156 Def Mega Charizard Y: 249-294 (83.8 - 98.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
244+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Overheat vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Mega Kangaskhan in Sun: 405-477 (115 - 135.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
244+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Overheat vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Kangaskhan in Sun: 405-477 (97.8 - 115.2%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

That's pretty much all I have to say for your team; I applaud you for making such a great and creative team. :D Hope my piece of advice helps you out!

Hi shaian, very nice team you have there. I particularly dig the use of thundy t and zard y, as they form a nice offensive core.

There is only one issue i have with lando t: its ev spread. I notice you dont mention what it does, it would really help to know why they have been chosen. If there is no reason (they do look very similar to lagas scarf lando) then i would suggest changing to 184 HP / 236 SAtk / 88 Spe on lando. You keep the same speed for outspeeding 252 neutral bisharp. The extra hp evs let you live an adamant +1 bisharp LO sucker punch, modest zard y heat wave, thundy i neutral hp ice, -1 mega kanga fake out + double edge and -1 conkeldurr ice punch, so it really helps.

Thanks for the spread AR, and yeah, I'll have to ask Steel about those EVs. I've been trying out your one, and it works great. Thanks man.
