Whimsicott [Singles]

[QC: DragonWhale / NOVED / Theorymon]
[GP: Snobalt / P Squared]
[OVERVIEW]

With access to Prankster and a huge supporting movepool, Whimsicott is very useful for disrupting the opposing team. Its base 116 Speed makes Whimsicott the fastest Prankster user in the Battle Spot metagame, outspeeding other Prankster users such as Thundurus, Liepard, Klefki, and Sableye along with base 115 Speed Pokemon such as Raikou and Starmie. Whimsicott's Fairy / Grass typing is great defensively, giving it an immunity to Dragon and some useful resistances, such as to Fighting, Dark, Water, Electric, and Ground, but it also gives Whimsicott an extra weakness to Steel and a 4x weakness to Poison. Whimsicott is also an excellent stallbreaker, being able to utilize Encore + Taunt against defensive Pokemon, such as Chansey, Clefable, and Cresselia, locking them into a status move and causing them to use Struggle afterwards.

However, Whimsicott has little to no offensive presence, leaving it with very few attacking options outside of its STAB attacks Moonblast and Giga Drain. Its 60 / 85 / 75 bulk leaves a lot to be desired, which prevents Whimsicott from being able to take several strong attacks. Because of Whimsicott's reliance on support moves, it often becomes bait for other Taunt users if it isn't running Taunt itself. Whimsicott also lacks reliable recovery outside of Leech Seed, so it's heavily reliant upon the move. Its typing also gives it trouble against Fire-, Flying-, Steel-, Poison-, and Ice-types such as Talonflame, Heatran, Gengar, and Mamoswine.

Moves
========

Encore allows Whimsicott to gain the upper hand as it forces the foe to use the same move for three turns. Whimsicott can use that to its advantage by switching out into a more dangerous threat to the opposing team or setting up Leech Seed, Substitute, or Cotton Guard. Leech Seed is Whimsicott's main recovery move, as it applies pressure on offensive Pokemon and slowly wears down their health while Whimsicott regains a little bit of health back. It can also switch out into one of its teammates, as they can recover health from Leech Seed as well. Moonblast is a great STAB move because it hits Fighting-, Dragon-, and Dark-types such as Mega Lopunny, Mega Salamence, and Sableye. It also keeps Whimsicott from being complete Taunt bait if it's not running Taunt itself. Substitute allows Whimsicott to avoid status from common moves such as Will-O-Wisp, Thunder Wave, and Toxic. Whimsicott can use that in conjunction with Encore and Leech Seed to lock its foe into a move while behind a Substitute. Substitute also keeps it from being hit by powerful attacks and can help scout the foe's move.

Taunt can be used instead of Substitute so that Whimsicott can act as a stallbreaker towards defensive Pokemon such as Cresselia, Chansey, Gliscor, and Suicune. Taunt and Encore can be used together to cause the opposing threat to use Struggle if it is locked into a non-attacking move. Stun Spore can be used in order to cripple faster Pokemon, most notably Choice Scarf users such as Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Excadrill, and Mega Evolutions such as Mega Gengar, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Metagross. It has a niche in paralyzing Ground-type Pokemon as well. Cotton Guard boosts Whimsicott's Defense by three stages, allowing it to take physical attacks more effectively; for example, it helps Whimsicott survive Mega Salamence's Double-Edge and other physical attacks that would normally KO it. However, this makes Whimsicott vulnerable to status moves. Prankster Tailwind can be used as a more situational move. Even though Whimsicott doesn't benefit from the move, it can be sacrificed after using the move to send of one of its teammates in, allowing the teammate to outspeed Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Garchomp.

Set Details
========

204 HP EVs let Whimsicott hit 161 HP, and 52 EVs are invested in Special Defense for added bulk, helping Whimsicott take hits better. 252 Speed EVs and a Timid nature allow it to outspeed base 115 Speed Pokemon and every Prankster user. Leftovers is used for passive recovery in conjunction with Leech Seed every turn. A Bold nature with maximum HP and Defense investment can be used instead of a Timid nature to take damage more effectively; however, Whimsicott will then have trouble outspeeding Prankster users such as Thundurus and Liepard. It also keeps Whimsicott from outspeeding Adamant Mega Salamence.

Usage Tips
========

Whimsicott's primary role is to switch into Pokemon that you'd expect to set up or use a support move of their own so that it can Encore them. This allows Whimsicott to set up either Substitute or Leech Seed to help stall out the foe. If Taunt is being used instead of the two moves mentioned already, it can force the threat to use Struggle, making it take recoil damage and giving Whimsicott another free turn to use any of its support moves. Encore will also give one of Whimsicott's teammates a chance to set up by locking the foe into a useless status move or an attack that one of your setup sweepers resists. Use Stun Spore on very fast Pokemon in order to gain the Speed advantage over the opposing team. This will also help in allowing your Pokemon to set up for a sweep when the opposing team is fully paralyzed.

Team Options
========

Mega Lucario is immune to Poison-type moves and can handle Fairy-, Ice-, Poison-, and Steel-types such as Sylveon, Mamoswine, Mega Gengar, and Heatran for Whimsicott. Mega Charizard X is also a nice partner because it can take on Bug-, Grass-, and Steel-types that threaten Whimsicott such as Mega Scizor, Serperior, and Aegislash. In return, Whimsicott can switch into Dragon- and Ground-type attacks aimed at Mega Charizard X. Heatran pairs very well with Whimsicott because it resists or is immune to all of its weaknesses. Whimsicott also does the same for Heatran's weaknesses to Fighting-, Ground-, and Water-type moves. Heatran can deal with Talonflame, Ferrothorn, Aegislash, Mega Gengar, and Weavile, while Whimsicott can take on Garchomp, Rotom-W, and Conkeldurr. Talonflame is also a good partner because it can easily get rid of pesky Grass-types with STAB Brave Bird.

Water-types, such as Suicune and Rotom-W, can form a perfect core with Whimsicott and Heatran. Rotom-W can also make use of Will-O-Wisp, softening physical attacks for Heatran and Whimsicott. Both Suicune and Rotom-W can take care of Fire-types such as Blaziken, opposing Heatran, and Rotom-H. Cresselia also makes for a good partner because it can take many attacks and deal passive damage to foes such as Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Salamence, and Mega Blaziken with Rocky Helmet. In return, Whimsicott can take Dark-type attacks for Cresselia.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Giga Drain can be used alongside Leech Seed to recover more HP and hit Rock-, Water-, and Ground-types such as Terrakion, Rotom-W, and Mega Swampert; however, Moonblast is a much better attacking option because it hits some of the most common threats in the metagame, such as Mega Salamence, Mega Lopunny, and Sableye. Memento decreases the foe's Attack and Special Attack by two stages, allowing Whimsicott's teammates to set up. This forces the foe to either attack the sweeper or switch out, giving the sweeper a free turn to set up without taking any damage. U-turn can be used as a hit-and-run option to pivot out of a terrible matchup, and it helps with gaining momentum. Focus Sash + Endeavor can be used with Memento and Tailwind with Whimsicott at level 1 to cripple particularly troublesome threats such as Mega Salamence, Suicune, and Cresselia. It can then use either Memento or Tailwind to help one of its teammates set up. However, this set is useless against Mega Kangaskhan and Ghost-types.

A set with Switcheroo and Choice Specs can be used to cripple defensive Pokemon and physical attackers. However, Whimsicott needs to be careful because many teams can switch their Mega Evolution into it. This forces Whimsicott to switch out, giving the opposing team a free turn to set up or attack Whimsicott's teammate. Switcheroo + Choice Specs can also be used to cripple physical attackers and defensive Pokemon. The set's other moves are Hurricane, to hit Bug- and Grass-types such as Heracross and Serperior; Hidden Power Fire, to hit Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Skarmory; and either U-turn or Moonblast. A Timid nature should be run on such a set, along with maximum Speed and Special Attack EVs. However, the set is inferior to Whimsicott's stalling set.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Whimsicott is easily walled by Steel-types, as it has no offensive coverage moves and many Steel-types resist both of its STAB attacks. Ferrothorn can't be paralyzed by Stun Spore due to its Grass typing and can OHKO Whimsicott with Gyro Ball. Excadrill and Magnezone can easily KO Whimsicott with Iron Head and Flash Cannon, respectively. Magnezone also can't be paralyzed, so Stun Spore is useless against it. Aegislash can easily handle Whimsicott with either Iron Head or Flash Cannon. Heatran is 4x resistant to Whimsicott's STAB moves and can KO it with its own STAB moves in return. Mega Metagross is also a problem for Whimsicott to overcome and can use either Bullet Punch or Meteor Mash on it.

**Flying-types**: Talonflame is much faster than Whimsicott thanks to its base 126 Speed, allowing it to easily OHKO Whimsicott with Brave Bird. Zapdos isn't affected by Stun Spore due to its Electric typing and can anticipate a Taunt from Whimsicott. Zapdos can also use Heat Wave to hit it for super effective damage. Mega Salamence can OHKO Whimsicott with Aerilate-boosted Double-Edge; however, it does need to watch out for Moonblast.

**Offensive Attackers**: Whimsicott hates being hit by hard attacks, so it often has to rely on Substitute to shield itself from taking major damage. Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X, Mega Charizard Y, and Mega Kangaskhan can continue to attack Whimsicott, getting rid of Substitute every time Whimsicott uses it and then KOing it. Mega Kangaskhan deserves a special mention because its ability, Parental Bond, can break Whimsicott's Substitute and damage Whimsicott itself on the second hit. Chandelure can also bypass Substitute due to Infiltrator and OHKO Whimsicott with its STAB Fire-type moves. Mega Blaziken and Greninja can OHKO Whimsicott with Flare Blitz or Blaze Kick in the former's case and Ice Beam or Gunk Shot in the latter's case; however, both get paralyzed by Stun Spore.

**Poison- and Grass-types**: Gengar and Mega Gengar can make quick work of Whimsicott. Mega Gengar can also trap Whimsicott with Shadow Tag, keeping it from switching out. Mega Venusaur is immune to Stun Spore and Leech Seed and can take any attack Whimsicott dishes out. Both Gengar and Mega Venusaur can OHKO Whimsicott with Sludge Bomb. Grass-types are immune to Stun Spore and Leech Seed, so they can use that to their advantage. Serperior can use Leaf Storm in order to deal with Whimsicott and its teammates after it faints.

**Hyper Voice Users**: Many Hyper Voice users can take advantage of Whimsicott's low Special Defense due to the move bypassing Substitute. Mega Salamence, Mega Altaria, and Mega Gardevoir can all be problematic because they get a boost from either Aerilate or Pixilate. Sylveon can OHKO Whimsicott with Pixilate- and Choice Specs-boosted Hyper Voice as well.

**Taunt Users**: If Whimsicott lacks Taunt, it's easily shut down by opposing Taunt users such as Thundurus, Liepard, Sableye, and opposing Whimsicott, forcing it to either use Moonblast or switch out. Serperior gets a special mention because not only can it use Taunt, but it's also immune to Leech Seed.

**Magic Bounce**: Magic Bounce users shut down Whimsicott's stalling capabilities. Mega Sableye, Espeon, and Mega Absol can all use Whimsicott's support moves as their opportunity to set up on it with Calm Mind or Swords Dance. Espeon also has access to recovery in Morning Sun, which can help it stall Whimsicott. However, both Mega Sableye and Mega Absol need to watch out for Moonblast.

**Multi-hit Moves**: Whimsicott is susceptible to multi-hit attacks such as Icicle Spear. Notable users include Mamoswine and Cloyster, both of which can get rid of Whimsicott's Substitute and continue to inflict damage on it. Cloyster also has Skill Link and can use Whimsicott as setup bait for Shell Smash, but it needs to watch for Whimsicott's Encore and Stun Spore.

Mega Venusaur in cc. I guess you can also add skill link (cloyster and mega heracross) and magic bounce in there as well.

The phrasing in **offensive pressure** is a bit weird, since MCY doesn't "break through" substitutes. Breaking through implies you break it and still continue to deal damage.

Memento in oo. It's a really good move if you have a setup sweeper in the back.

Taunt to C&C, easily the best stop to most kinds of Whimsicott as Moonblast doesn't hit too hard on many things (especially resists like Gengar and Skarmory) and it shuts down almost all of Whimsicott's disruptiveness entirely. Special mention to Taunt Serperior as it also blocks Leech Seed. On that note, expand DW's Mega Venusaur mention to include all Grass-types - other than Breloom, they all take little from Moonblast and block Leech Seed and Stun Spore, restricting Whimsicott's capabilities considerably.

Mention Iron Ball and Lagging Tail with Switcheroo in OO. Reasonably common strat for shutting down offensive Pokémon like Greninja that are otherwise pretty reliant on their Life Orb or Choice item. Not any better than OO though for sure.

Broaden DW's mention of Skill Link to include all multi-hit moves - Mamoswine's Icicle Spear and so on.

Make more of Whimsicott's lack of offensive presence - it serves pretty much purely as an enabler for other offensive Pokémon and is complete deadweight as a lastmon.

I was pretty iffy with the Choice Specs variant so I just decided to add it to the analyses but at the bottom of OO.

I did know a couple of Japanese players utilize it before (well one of them was able to deal with my Ferrothorn when they predicted the switch and HP Fire me after switching out Rotom-W).

Also the changes were made.

In team options, add talonflame. It can deal with grass types that give whim problems and it can deal with some steel types too if its running flare blitz. And whimsicott can take water and electric attacks that scare out talonflame.

Cresselia also make for a good partner because it can take many attacks and deal passive damage to foes with Rocky Helmet. Whimsicott in return can take Dark-type attacks for Cresselia. Cresselia is also immune to Ground-type attacks because of Levitate, so Whimsicott won't have to take any damage despite resisting the type.
Expand on this, it's a little broad atm. What attacks does cress take? Maybe mention kanga and mamo? Also the mention of levitate seems weird since ground isnt a huge deal to whimsicott, could probably take that out.

Mention some set up pokemon in team options. Even when you're not running memento, encore can potentially give a pokemon a free turn to set up. Not only can it encore something into a useless status move, but it can sacrifice it self by locking the opponent into something like a fire move or ice move(depending on your teammate and the situation) and you can bring in your set up sweeper that resists the move. Plus, the passive damage leech seed does is nice for putting pokemon closer to KO range. Charizard X and Mega Lucario are both common partners. And some of what i just mentioned could maybe be in usage tips as well.

252 HP and 52 SpD investment lets Whimsicott hit 161 HP. This also allows it to recover more health from Leftovers.
204 HP, lil typo. Also, just say "204 HP investment lets Whimsicott hit 161 HP". The 52 SpD are just leftover EVs from that.

Everything else looks good so 2/3

IM FINALLY GONNA CHECK THIS! Thank god I'm healthy again!

Overview

-Not really a gp guy, but you say its bulk enables it to take hard hits, when actually you probably mean its bulk makes it unable to take hard hits.

-I'd actually rearrange what you're saying just a bit: I'd mention Prankster right away, because thats the big deal about Whimsicott! I'd also mention that its has an excellent movepool to abuse it with too. The typing is pretty cool don't get me wrong, but Prankster is the reason Whimsicott is viable.

Moves

-Believe it or not, I think Cotton Guard actually needs to be slashed in. Its actually been Whimsicott's 5th most used move for a while, and it makes Whimsicott EXTREMELY difficult to KO on the physical side. To give you a picture: it gives it a chance to survive a freaking Mega Salamence Double-Edge o_O. Now granted, this makes Whimsicott very vulnerable to status moves which is a huge bummer, but still, it lets Whimsicott really screw up a bunch of physical attackers that'd normally smash it to pieces!

-I'd give Tailwind a mention too without a slash in. More situational and doesn't really benefit Whimsicott itself, but priority Tailwind can potentially let you sacrifice Whimsicott to kick ass with another Pokemon!

-I'd mention Mega Salamence as one of Moonblast's targets, since it gets 2HKOed by it.

Set Details

-Another unfortunate thing about Bold is that you will no longer outspeed Adamant Mega Salamence, which is a huge bummer since Whimsicott 2HKOs it.

Other Options

This set isn't too common, but Whimsicott can sorta get away with a level 1 Focus Sash Endeavor set. Usually, they use Endeavor to cripple something, then go out in a blaze of glory with Tailwind or Memento to set up a sweeper. OFC, this Whimsicott gets owned by Mega Kangaskhan and Ghost-types.

Checks and Counters

-I'd just totally remove the Breloom mention, since like you said, Breloom actually gets owned by Whimsicott.

Once you implement this stuff, I'll give you your final QC check! I do think the prose in this analysis is a bit awkward, but thankfully we have GP for that :D

Moves

Encore would force the opposing Pokemon to use the same move last turn, allowing for Whimsicott to gain the upper hand.allows Whimsicott to gain the upper hand, [ac] as it forces the foe to use the same move for three turns. [works better] Whimsicott can use that to its advantage inby switching out into a more dangerous threat to the opposing team or set up for teammates to stall [is this what you meant?]. Leech Seed is Whimsicott's main recovery move, applyings it applies pressure on offensive Pokemon and slowly wearings down their health while Whimsicott regains a little bit of health [the specificity was needed imo] back. It can also switch out into one of its teammates, as they can recover health from Leech Seed as well. Taunt can be used instead of Substitute so that Whimsicott can act as a stallbreaker towards defensive Pokemon such as Cresselia, Chansey, Gliscor, and Suicune. 204 HP EVs and 52 Special Defense investment letsEVs let Whimsicott hit 161 HP. With the added bulk, it helps Whimsicott take physical and special attacks better. 252 Speed EVs withand a Timid nature allow it to outspace [sounded awkward] base 115 Speed Pokemon and every Prankster user. Leftovers is used for passive recovery in conjunction with Leech Seed every turn. A Bold nature with maximum HP and Defense investment can be used instead of Timid nature to take damage more efficiently; however, Whimsicott will have trouble outspeeding Prankster Pokemonusers such as Thundurus and Liepard. It also keeps Whimsicott from outspeeding Adamant nature Mega Salamence.

Usage Tips
========

Whimsicott's primary motive is to switch into Pokemon that you'd expect would try and set up or use a support move of their own, [ac] so that Whimsicott can Encore them. This allows Whimsicott to set up either Substitute and or Leech Seed in stallingto help stall out the foe. If Taunt is being used instead of the two moves mentioned already, then it can force the threat in going into a Struggle, takingto going into a Struggle, making it take recoil damage. This would then allows Whimsicott to have a free turn to set up any of its support moves. Encore will also give one of Whimsicott's teammates a chance to set up by locking them into a useless status move or sacrifice itself,ing itself, [what are you trying to say?] locking the foe into a move in which one of your set up sweepers resists. Use Stun Spore on very fast Pokemon in order to gain Speed control over the opposing team for Whimsicott and its teammates. This will also help in allowing other Pokemon to set up for a sweep when the opposing team is fully paralyzed.

Team Options

Mega Lucario is immune to Poison-type moves and can handle Fairy-, Ice-, Poison-, and Steel-types such as Sylveon, Mamoswine, Mega Gengar, and Heatran. Cresselia also makes for a good partner because it can take many attacks and deal passive damage to foes with Rocky Helmet, [ac] such as Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Salamence, and Mega Blaziken, [ac] with Rocky Helmet. Giga Drain can be used alongside Leech Seed to gain more recovery, as well as hit Rock-, Water-, and Ground-types such as Terrakion, Rotom-W, and Mega Swampert; however, Moonblast is a much better attacking option in hitting one of the most common threats in the metagame [which is...?]. This either forces the foe to attack the sweeper or switch out, giving them a free turn to set up without taking any damage. U-turn can be used as a hit and run option to pivot out of any terrible matchup it has [and it helps with gaining momentum would be good to mention too imo]. Focus Sash + Endeavor can be used with Memento and Tailwind with Whimsicott at level 1 to cripple bigger threats. It can then use either Memento or Tailwind to help one of its teammates set up. However, this set is useless against Mega Kangaskhan and Ghost-types.

Switcheroo and Choice Specs can be used to cripple defensive Pokemon and physical attackers. However, Whimsicott needs to be careful because many teams can switch into their Mega Pokemon. This forces Whimsicott to switch out, meaning that it gives the opposing team a free turn to set up or attack its partnerWhimsicott's teammate [i assume]. Switcheroo can also be used with Whimsicott holding Choice SpecsChoice Specs Whimsicott [flows better imo] to cripple physical attackers and defensive Pokemon. A Timid nature is raun with maximum Speed and Special Attack EVs. Hurricane is used along with it to hit Bug- and Grass-types such as Heracross and Serperior. Hidden Power Fire is also used in the set to hit Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Skarmory. The IV spread for Hidden Power Fire is 31 / 30 / 31 / 30 / 31 / 30. [is this necessary to mention?] U-turn and Moonblast can be used as the last moveslot as well. However, the set is inferior to its stalling set.

Checks and Counters

**Steel-types**: Whimsicott is easily walled by Steel-types, as it has no offensive coverage moves and many Steel-types resists both of its STAB attacks. Ferrothorn can't be paralyzed by Stun Spore due to its Grass typing and can OHKO Whimsicott with Gyro Ball. Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X/Y, [ac] Mega Charizard Y, [ac] and Mega Kangaskhan can continue to attack Whimsicott, getting rid of Substitute the more times Whimsicott uses it and then continue KO it. Mega Kangaskhan deserves a special mention too because its ability, [ac] Parental Bonding, [ac] can definitely break Whimsicott's Substitute and cause more damage to Whimsicott's health on the second hit. Chandelure is also mentioned because of Infiltrator, which can bypass Substitutecan also bypass Substitute due to Infiltrator and OHKO Whimsicott with its STAB Fire-type STAB moves. Mega Blaziken and Greninja can OHKO Whimsicott with Flare Blitz or Blaze Kick, and Ice Beam and Gunk Shot, respectively; however, both gets paralyzed by Stun Spore.

**Poison- and Grass-types**: Gengar, both regular and Mega Gengar can make quick work of Whimsicott. Mega Gengar can also trap Whimsicott with Shadow Tag as well, keeping it from switching out, [ac] unless it carries U-turn. However it', [ac] U-turn is futile because Mega Gengar outspeeds Whimsicott. Mega Venusaur is immune to Stun Spore, [rc] and Leech Seed and can take any attack it dishes out. Both Gengar and Mega Venusaur can OHKO Whimsicott with Sludge Bomb. Grass-types in general are immune to Whimsicott's[whimsicott isnt the only pokemon with these moves] Stun Spore and Leech Seed, [ac] so they can use that to their advantage. Serperior can use Leaf Storm in order to deal with Whimsicott and its teammates after it faints.

**Hyper Voice**: Many Hyper Voice users can take advantage of Whimsicott's low Special Defense due to it bypassing Substitute. Mega Salamence, Mega Altaria, [ac] and Mega Gardevoir can all be problematic because they all get a boost from Aerilate andeither Aerilate or Pixilate. Sylveon can also OHKO Whimsicott with Pixilate- [add hyphen] and Choice Specs-boosted Hyper Voice as well.

**Taunt Users**: If Whimsicott lacks Taunt, it's easily shut down by opposing Taunt users such as Thundurus, Liepard, Sableye, and opposing Whimsicott, forcing it to use either use Moonblast or switch out. Serperior gets a special mention goes to Serperior because not only can it Taunt as well, it can also block Leech Seed from Whimsicott.

**Magic Bounce**: Magic Bounce users shuts down Whimsicott's stalling capabilities. Mega Sableye, Espeon, and Mega Absol can all use that [what is "that"?] as their opportunity to set up on it with Calm Mind and Swords Dance, respectively. Espeon also has access to recovery in Morning Sun, which can stall Whimsicott. However, both Mega Sableye and Mega Absol need to watch out for Moonblast.

**Multi-[add hyphen]Hit Moves**: Whimsicott is susceptible to multi-hitting attacks such as Icicle Spear. Most notable Pokemon are Mamoswine and Cloyster, which bothboth of which [works better imo] can get rid of Whimsicott's Substitute and continue to inflict damage upon it. Cloyster also has the ability Skill Link and can use Whimsicott as bait in setting up Shell Smash, but it needs to watch for Whimsicott's Encore and Stun Spore.

[OVERVIEW]

With access to Prankster and a huge supporting movepool, Whimsicott becomes very annoying inuseful for disrupting the opposing team. With its base 116 Speed, Whimsicott is the fastest Prankster user in the Battle Spot metagame, outspeeding Prankster Pokemonother Prankster users such as Thundurus, Liepard, Klefki, and Sableye along with base 115 Speed Pokemon such as Raikou and Starmie. Whimsicott's Fairy / Grass typing gives it an immunity to Dragon-types and more resistances while gaining an extra weakness to Steel-types and a 4x weakness to Poison-types. Its typing is also great defensively in resisting, [ac] packing resistances to many types such as Fighting, Dark, Water, Electric, and Ground. Whimsicott is also an excellent stallbreaker with Encore + Taunt onagainst defensive Pokemon, [ac] such as Chansey, Clefable, and Cresselia, locking them into a status move and causing them to struggle use Struggle (right?) afterwards.

However, Whimsicott has little to no offensive presence, [ac] leaving it with very few attacking options outside of its STAB attacks such asin [fits better imo] Moonblast and Giga Drain. Its 60 / 85 /[add space] 75 bulk leaves it a lot to be desired, which unables Whimsicottprevents Whimsicott from being able to take several hard attacks. Because of Whimsicott's high reliance on support movepool moves, it often becomes bait against other Taunt users if it isn't running Taunt itself. Whimsicott also lacks reasonable reliable recovery outside of Leech Seed, [ac] so it's heavily reliant upon the move. Its typing also gives it trouble against Fire-, Flying-, Steel-, Poison-, and Ice-types such as Talonflame, Heatran, Gengar, and Mamoswine.

Encore would force the opposing Pokemon to use the same move last turn, allowing for Whimsicott to gain the upper hand.allows Whimsicott to gain the upper hand, [ac] as it forces the foe to use the same move for three turns. [works better] Whimsicott can use that to its advantage inby switching out into a more dangerous threat to the opposing team or set up for teammates to stall [is this what you meant?] (I think she meant that Whimsicott will set up Leech Seed, Substitute, or Cotton Guard. Lucina, whatever it is, make sure it's clear.). Moonblast is a great STAB move in hittingbecause it hits Fighting-, Dragon-, and Dark-types such as Mega Lopunny, Mega Salamence, and Sableye. It also keeps Whimsicott from being complete Taunt bait to other Pokemon if it's not running Taunt itself. Substitute allows Whimsicott to avoid status aliments from common moves such as Will-O-Wisp, Thunder Wave, and Toxic. Whimsicott can use that in conjunction with Encore +and Leech Seed to lock its foe into that move while behind a Substitute. ItSubstitute also keeps it from being hit by hard hitters powerful attacks and can help scout the foe's move.

Taunt can be used instead of Substitute so that Whimsicott can act as a stallbreaker towards defensive Pokemon such as Cresselia, Chansey, Gliscor, and Suicune. Taunt +and Encore are both used together to cause the opposing threat to struggle use Struggle if it used a non-attacking move. Stun Spore can be used over both moves in order to cripple faster Pokemon, [ac] most notably Choice Scarf users such as Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Excadrill, and Mega Pokemon Evolutions such as Garchomp, Landorus-T, Excadrill, Mega Gengar, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Metagross. It also has a niche in paralyzing Ground-type Pokemon as well. Cotton Guard boosts Whimsicott's Defense by three stages, allowing it to take attacks more efficiently effectively. It also helps Whimsicott survive Mega Salamence's Double-(AH)Edge and other physical attackers that would normally KO it. However, this makes Whimsicott vulnerable to status moves. Prankster Tailwind can be used as a more situational move. Even though Whimsicott doesn't benefit from the move, it can be sacrificed after using the move to send of one of its teammates in, allowing the teammate to outspeeding Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Garchomp.

204 HP and 52 Special Defense investment letsEVs let Whimsicott hit 161 HP. A Bold nature with maximum HP and Defense investment can be used instead of a Timid nature to take damage more efficiently effectively; however, Whimsicott will have trouble outspeeding Prankster Pokemonusers such as Thundurus and Liepard. It also keeps Whimsicott from outspeeding Adamant nature Mega Salamence.

Usage Tips
========

Whimsicott's primary motive role is to switch into Pokemon that you'd expect would try and to set up or use a support move of their own, [ac] (comma not necessary here) so that Whimsicott can Encore them. This allows Whimsicott to set up either Substitute and or Leech Seed in stallingto help stall out the foe. If Taunt is being used instead of the two moves mentioned already, then it can force the threat in going into a Struggle, takingto use Struggle, making it take recoil damage. This would then allows Whimsicott to have a free turn to set up any of its support moves. Encore will also give one of Whimsicott's teammates a chance to set up by locking them foe into a useless status move or sacrifice itself,ing itself, [what are you trying to say?] locking the foe into an attack that move in which one of your set(remove space)up sweepers resists. Use Stun Spore on very fast Pokemon in order to gain the Speed control advantage over the opposing team for Whimsicott and its teammates. This will also help in allowing other Pokemon to set up for a sweep when the opposing team is fully paralyzed.

Team Options
========

Mega Lucario is immune to Poison-type moves and can handle Fairy-, Ice-, Poison-, and Steel-types such as Sylveon, Mamoswine, Mega Gengar, and Heatran. Heatran pairs very well with Whimsicott because it resists all of its weaknesses with the exception of being immune to Poison-type attackor is immune to all of its weaknesses. Whimsicott also does the same for Heatran's weakness to Fighting-, Ground-, and Water-types moves.

Cresselia also makes for a good partner because it can take many attacks and deal passive damage to foes with Rocky Helmet, [ac] such as Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Salamence, and Mega Blaziken, [ac] with Rocky Helmet. In return, Whimsicott can take Dark-type attacks for Cresselia.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Giga Drain can be used alongside Leech Seed to gain recover more HP recovery, as well as and hit Rock-, Water-, and Ground-types such as Terrakion, Rotom-W, and Mega Swampert; however, Moonblast is a much better attacking option in hitting because it hits one of the most common threats in the metagame [which is...?]. Memento decreases the foe's Attack and Special Attack by two stages allowing for its teammate, [ac] allowing Whimsicott's teammates to set up. This either forces the foe to attack the sweeper or switch out, giving them a free turn to set up without taking any damage. U-turn can be used as a hit and run option to pivot out of any terrible matchup it has [and it helps with gaining momentum would be good to mention too imo]. Focus Sash + Endeavor can be used with Memento and Tailwind with Whimsicott at level 1 to cripple bigger particularly troublesome threats (such as?). It can then use either Memento or Tailwind to help one of its teammates set up. However, this set is useless against Mega Kangaskhan and Ghost-types.

Switcheroo and Choice Specs can be used to cripple defensive Pokemon and physical attackers. However, Whimsicott needs to be careful because many teams can switch into their Mega Pokemon Evolution into it. This forces Whimsicott to switch out, meaning that it gives the opposing team a free turn to set up or attack its partnerWhimsicott's teammate [i assume]. Switcheroo can also be used with Whimsicott holding Choice Specs to cripple physical attackers and defensive Pokemon. However, the set is inferior to its Whimsicott's stalling set.

Checks and Counters
===================

Excadrill and Magnezone can easily KO Whimsicott with Iron Head and Flash Cannon, respectively. Also a special mention that Magnezone also can't be paralyzed, [ac] so Stun Spore is useless against it. Aegislash can easily handle Whimsicott with either Iron Head or Flash Cannon. Heatran 4x resistsis 4x resistant to Whimsicott's STAB moves and can KO it with its own STAB moves in return. Mega Metagross is also a problem for Whimsicott to overcome and can either use Bullet Punch or Meteor Mash on it.

**Flying-types**: Talonflame is much faster than Whimsicott with a base ofits base 126 Speed, allowing it to easily OHKO Whimsicott with Brave Bird. Zapdos isn't affected by Stun Spore due to its Electric typing [necessary mention imo] and can anticipate a Taunt from Whimsicott. Zapdos can also use Heat Wave to hit it for super effective damage. Mega Salamence can OHKO Whimsicott with Aerilate-boosted Double Edge; however, it does need to watch out for Moonblast.

**Offensive Attackers**: Whimsicott hates being hit by hard attacks, whichso it often has to rely on Substitute to shield itself from taking major damage. Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X/Y, [ac] Mega Charizard Y, [ac] and Mega Kangaskhan can continue to attack Whimsicott, getting rid of Substitute the more times every time Whimsicott uses it and then KOing it. Mega Kangaskhan deserves a special mention too because its ability, [ac] Parental Bonding, [ac] can definitely break Whimsicott's Substitute and cause more damage to Whimsicott's health itself on the second hit. Chandelure is also mentioned because of Infiltrator, which can bypass Substitutecan also bypass Substitute due to Infiltrator and OHKO Whimsicott with its STAB Fire-type STAB (STAB is in the correct place) moves. Mega Blaziken and Greninja can OHKO Whimsicott with Flare Blitz or Blaze Kick in the former's case,(RC) and Ice Beam and or Gunk Shot in the latter's case, respectively; however, both gets paralyzed by Stun Spore.

Notable users include Mamoswine and Cloyster, both of which can get rid of Whimsicott's Substitute and continue to inflict damage upon it. Cloyster also has Skill Link and can use Whimsicott as setup bait for Shell Smash, but it needs to watch for Whimsicott's Encore and Stun Spore.
