Xatu (Special Attacker) (QC 3/3) (GP 2/2)

The above post seems like a fair compromise. Both RT. and SJCrew have valid points. I see no reason to pre-long this discussion any longer. Both options be opened for the readers and explain the pros and cons as they both have some virtue.

40 HP EVs yields 281 HP, which is incredibly sub-optimal for a Life Orb users. 8 of those EVs should be moved elsewhere, as it's inferior in all cases to 32 HP EVs after 2 attacks (probably to SpD for insurance against Download)

Heat Wave is used for the purpose of severely dent Steel-types.
You can include Weavile also as a casualty.

This set function much better on offensive teams, as it does not ruin momentum like Blastoise and Hitmontop do, nor is it weak like Xatu's defensive set is.
The bolded part of the sentence needs to be changed as it is slightly misleading. (What is meant by weak here? I myself understand what you mean but other readers might not). Perhaps you can reword to something along the lines of 'This set functions much better on offensive teams, as it does not ruin momentum like Blastoise and Hitmontop do, and can pose a threat itself unlike its defensive set.

If 2HKOing Snorlax is mandatory, then the Modest nature is preferred.

Correct me if i am wrong but you are guaranteed the 2hko the Snorlax after Stealth Rock damage so maybe you can include that. (its just to avoid any misconceptions amongst unfamaliar players).

U-turn is an option on this set, as it allows Xatu to escape from unfavorable situations.
Since most of the unfavourable situations will feature a faster Pokemon than Xatu switching in and threatening the Xatu out (Raikou, Victini etc.) I think that you can remove that and mention that U-turn baits in bulky walls such as Umbreon and Snorlax and if you aforsee a switch in by any of them you can u-turn and give a safe switch-in to your Fighting-types who have good synergy with Xatu. Just a thought.

Rhyperior and Swampert can both deal a massive amount of damage to Empoleon with Earthquake, as well as check offensive Pokemon such as Zapdos, Victini, and Raikou.

Empoleon tends to carry Grass Knot nowadays and can beat both Swampert and Rhyperior. The first part of this sentence can be removed as Empoleon outspeeds both Swampert and Rhyperior and will almost always beat them.

Good work regardless; once you're done making these changes I'll stamp this.

[SET COMMENTS]

While Xatu's other sets focus on using its typing and Magic Bounce defensively, this set uses its decent Special Attack and movepool to defeat nearly every common entry hazard setter in the tier. This set functions much better on offensive teams, as it does not ruin momentum like Blastoise and Hitmontop do, and can pose a threat itself unlike its defensive set. Psyshock functions as Xatu's primary STAB move, as it can defeat many common hazard setters, such as Nidoqueen and Qwilfish. If using a Modest nature, Iit is the preferred over Psychic due to its ability to 2HKO offensive Snorlax after Stealth Rock. However, if using a Timid nature, Psychic is the preferred option, as it will always OHKO standard Nidoqueen, unlike Psyshock. Grass Knot is a key move on this set, as it allows Xatu to defeat the two best Stealth Rock setters in the tier: Rhyperior and Swampert. Heat Wave is used for the purpose of severely dent Steel-types as well as Weavile as s casualty(idk what you mean, but its obviously a spelling mistake). In fact, it is powerful enough to 2HKO Bronzong and 3HKO Registeel 100% of the time.(space)Finally, Roost is used to mitigate Life Orb recoil and potentially Stealth Rock damage that Xatu has taken.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Using the given EV spread, Xatu, is able to outspeed everything up to maximum speed base 90s. The choice between between a Modest and a Timid nature depends on your personal preference. If outspeeding threats such as Timid Nidoking, Jolly Heracross, and Timid Roserade is essential, then a Timid nature is preferred. If 2HKOing Snorlax after Stealth Rock is mandatory, then the Modest nature is preferred. U-turn is an option on this set, as it allows Xatu to escape out of special walls such as Porygon2 and Umbreon into a Fighting-type partner. However, using U-turn forces Xatu to give up one of its coverage moves or Roost, both of which are vital to this set's success.

This set struggles defeating Empoleon, as it Empoleon(it's unclear what 'it' is, it could mean xatu or empy)is not 2HKOed by Heat Wave it and can 2HKO Xatu at worst with Ice Beam. This set also struggles against certain special walls such as Porygon2 and Umbreon due to Xatu's limited power, as well as common offensive Pokemon such as Zapdos. Therefore, Xatu's partners are categorized into two groups: Pokemon that can deal with the aforementioned Pokemon, (AC) and offensive Pokemon that benefit from the prevention of Stealth Rock. Rhyperior and Swampert can both check offensive Pokemon such as Zapdos, Victini, and Raikou. Offensive Pokemon that benefit from the prevention of Stealth Rock include Yanmega, Victini, Darmanitan, Zapdos, Weavile, and Chandelure. Darmanitan, Zapdos, and Victini in particular benefit from Xatu's ability to lure and defeat Rhyperior and Swampert with Grass Knot.
