Zebstrika

QC: Magnemite / trc / -Grim
GP: The Dutch Plumberjack / P Squared

[OVERVIEW]

Zebstrika sports one of the highest Speed stats in the PU metagame, which, along with its good coverage, makes it a great revenge killer and a threatening special attacker to a lot of offensive teams. It has access to two good abilities in Sap Sipper and Lightningrod, granting it immunities to Grass- and Electric-type moves, respectively. Zebstrika is able to distinguish itself from other Electric-types such as Raichu and Rotom-F with its high Speed and its access to Sap Sipper and Overheat, allowing it to better take on Pokemon such as Tangela and Jumpluff. On the downside, Zebstrika is extremely frail, making it very easy to revenge kill. Zebstrika is relatively weak as well, sporting only a base 80 Special Attack, making it very easy to wall by common Pokemon such as Piloswine, Stunfisk, and Grumpig.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Volt Switch allows Zebstrika to get off chip damage and gain momentum against Pokemon it can't deal much damage to on a predicted switch such as Grumpig and Clefairy. Thunderbolt is stronger than Volt Switch, making it a great choice to allow Zebstrika to clean late-game. Overheat allows Zebstrika to hit Grass-types such as Roselia, Jumpluff, and Tangela at the cost of dropping its Special Attack by two stages. Hidden Power Ice allows Zebstrika to take on Ground- and Dragon-types such as Fraxure and Vibrava, while Hidden Power Grass allows Zebstrika to better take on some Ground-types such as Piloswine.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment along with a Timid nature and a Life Orb makes Zebstrika as fast and as powerful as possible. Magnet can be used in order to bluff Choice sets when Zebstrika is KOing a foe without having to take recoil from Life Orb; on the downside, it only boosts Zebstrika's Electric-type moves. Sap Sipper allows Zebstrika to take on common Grass-types such as Tangela and Jumpluff, while Lightningrod grants Zebstrika an immunity to Electric-type moves while additionally granting it a Special Attack boost if it is targeted by one.

Usage Tips
========

Zebstrika should mainly use Volt Switch in order to gain momentum against its checks while also dealing damage, although you must be wary of Ground-types, which are immune to it. Thunderbolt is preferred when the opponent doesn't have a good check to Zebstrika or if the opposing team is weakened enough for Zebstrika to clean up. If Zebstrika is running Sap Sipper, it should aim to switch into Grass-type moves such as Sleep Powder and Seed Bomb from Pokemon such as Jumpluff, and if it is running Lightningrod, it should switch into Electric-type moves. If the opponent has a Piloswine, Overheat should be used on the first predicted switch, and Hidden Power Grass followed by Overheat should be used on the second one, all of which can KO Piloswine.

Team Options
========

Pokemon with access to U-turn such as Ninjask and Pelipper can form a VoltTurn core with Zebstrika to keep constant momentum against opponents. Pokemon with access to Stealth Rock, Spikes, or Toxic Spikes such as Piloswine and Roselia allow Zebstrika to net certain KOs, such as the 2HKO on Machoke after Stealth Rock. Wallbreakers such as Simipour and Stoutland can weaken or KO Zebstrika's checks and counters, allowing it to sweep late-game; additionally, Stoutland can take on a lot of Zebstrika's checks single-handedly. Bulkier setup sweepers such as Vigoroth and Duosion can set up on the majority of Zebstrika's checks such as Stunfisk, Clefairy, Vibrava, and Piloswine. Pokemon that struggle with Grass-types, such as Relicanth, appreciate Zebstrika's ability to take them on, while Pokemon that struggle with Electric-types, such as Swanna, appreciate Zebstrika's immunity to their STAB moves. Simisage makes for a good partner for Zebstrika, as it appreciates Zebstrika's ability to take on Grass-types such as Jumpluff while Simisage can take on Ground-types such as Piloswine, which Zebstrika struggles with.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Because of its limited movepool, Zebstrika doesn't have very many other options. However, Zebstrika can run a physical attacking set, though its physical movepool is even more limited. Snatch can be used in order to steal certain moves such as Roselia's Synthesis to prevent it from recovering health. Me First can be used to allow Zebstrika to beat Stunfisk and Probopass, though it is very situational and unreliable.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Lickilicky and Clefairy can shake off any of Zebstrika's attacks and wear it down with Knock Off and Moonblast, respectively, while also staying at high health with their means of recovery. Other naturally bulky Pokemon such as Gogoat, Vigoroth, and Duosion can easily take Zebstrika's attacks and use it as setup bait.

**Ground-types**: While Zebstrika can run Hidden Power Grass or Hidden Power Ice, Ground-types such as Piloswine and Stunfisk can prevent it from gaining momentum with Volt Switch.

**Faster Pokemon**: Pokemon that outspeed Zebstrika, such as Ninjask and Choice Scarf Mr. Mime, can take advantage of Zebstrika's lack of bulk and KO it if it is weakened before it can get a hit off.

I wouldn't say it has strong competition as it's the best electric by a decent amount

I don't like magnet at all, your coverage moves become so weak. Deslash imo

Overview should talk about how it's easy to wall (and walled by the two most common sr users)

WHY ISN'T STUNFISK MENTIONED AT ALL IN C&C LOL

I'm really tired but other than this stuff this is fine I guess, 1/3

Overview:

Mention that Zebstrika is not just a great revenge killer, but also a threatening special attacker against most offensive teams, because of its high speed. In fact, it is more of a general attacker than a revenge killer, though it can 'revenge' in the sense Pokemon like Simipour and Floatzel. I don't think Lightningrod should be mentioned in the overview because Sap Sipper is part of Zebstrika's main defensive niche; on an offensive team it provides the valuable utility of switching into Jumpluff, a massive annoyance. I don't think you should mention it faces strong competition from those other Electric-types, I think you should probably mention that it is the premier Electric-type in a tier with many Electric-types because 1) it is faster than them and 2) it has Sap Sipper + Overheat and 3) it is better against offensive teams which are the most common and playstyle; Rotom-F and Raichu are much better against slower teams. In terms of flaws, frailty is a good one, another is that is worn down very easily in a hazard centric metagame and with Life Orb, and it is Spikes fodder for Roselia and SR fodder for Piloswine. I'd ditch the coverage moves con because it doesn't really mean much, it isn't like Zebstrika has plenty of Pokemon that resists its moves.

Set:

name: All-Out Attacker
move 1: Volt Switch
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Overheat
move 4: Hidden Power Ice / Hidden Power Grass
item: Life Orb
ability: Sap Sipper
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

I'd prefer Lightningrod and Magnet deslashed and put in set details personally, I guess that's up to you, but without Life Orb Zebstrika is really easy to check (it doesn't bluff that well either because Specs has a big power difference and Scarf is unviable pretty much). And you know my stance on Lightningrod from the overview section. Up to you tho.

Moves:

Good, Volt Switch is a way of gaining momentum but specify that this is either on predicting a switch because the opponent has a hard check (Grumpig, Clefairy) or has no reason to sac their Simipour or Floatzel or whatever is out at the time, you should use Volt Switch on predicted switches to non-grounds. Thunderbolt is also a good move to clean late-game, you can talk about the potency of Electric STAB in PU if you want. Overheat also KOes Jumpluff if running HP Grass. Mention that Piloswine is only 3HKOed by HP Grass, that HP Ice 2HKOes Golem anyway, and that HP Ice is pretty much a lot better because Fraxure and Vibrava are very big deals for Zebstrika.

Set Details is fine, just that thing about how Zebstrika doesn't bluff Choice well unless it's KOing things.

Usage Tips:

Ok, Volt Switch if things like Clefairy, Grumpig on the opposing team etc, or if you are against something that dies, pretty simple stuff i guess. Under the Sap Sipper section mention switching into Jumpluff, in the Piloswine section you can mention that if using HP Grass you can predict the switch, Overheat, then HP Grass + Overheat next time it switches in. Remove the gabite / golem line as you don't need to predict their switches.

Team options needs things that can take advantage of stunfisk / clefairy / grumpig / piloswine / vibrava's presence, things that setup hazards or get free turns to setup on these Pokemon, etc, there's heaps to find, the usual Zeb partners.

I'd rather have it written up before giving more advice on team options so ill look back after

OO is good

omg where is stunfisk

QC 2/3

Not QC, just helping out a bit:

I'm not sure I'd keep Choice Specs there under other options. Magnet is more viable despite it only boosting Thunderbolt / Volt Switch, and it was deslashed - this raises the possibility that Choice Specs may also not be worth mentioning.

Set comments: "Hidden Power Ice allows Zebstrika to take on Ground- and Dragon-types such as Fraxure and Vibrava," - Could also mention Gabite here, given Gabite walls Zebstrika completely if it's not carrying HP Ice.

In the Checks and Counters section, you could also possibly mention standard SpDef Gogoat as a check to Zebstrika, given it's able to Milk Drink on the Overheat and force it out with threat of EQ. Vigoroth also easily sets up on Zebstrika with a combination of Bulk Up and Slack Off. Duosion can also do this to an extent with Calm Mind and Recover, but is much closer to being 2HKOed by Zebstrika's LO Thunderbolt than Vigoroth is and therefore needs no prior damage before setting up on Zebstrika if it's switching in directly.

As far as partners go, Pokemon that appreciate Jumpluff's absence work really well - for example, Simisage is checked by Jumpluff's faster Acrobatics, but is safe as long as you have Sap Sipper Zebstrika to switch into Jumpluff. In return, Simisage can hit Ground types with LO Leaf Storm (though it needs to be healthy - above 72% - in order to do this against Piloswine). Simisage is also able to seriously maul the special walls in PU that hold Zebstrika back from being more effective - it mauls Grumpig with Knock Off, beats Clefairy with a combination of Knock Off + Gunk Shot, and can hit Regice / Lickilicky super effectively with Superpower.

4 SpA Life Orb Simisage Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Piloswine: 359-424 (89 - 105.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
4 SpA Life Orb Simisage Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Stunfisk: 359-424 (85.2 - 100.7%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Pokemon that appreciate Tangela's absence also make great partners. You already have Stoutland listed there, but Pokemon such as physical Floatzel and Basculin are great options too. Finally, Pokemon that need Pelipper forced out in order to keep hazards up (hazard setters like Piloswine especially) are nice too.

Edit (9/28): With Snatch and Me First being listed in OO, it could make some sense to give Pursuit a quick one-liner mention. Mixed Pursuit Zebstrika was much better in Barb / Costa meta when it was able to break Kadabra's Focus Sash as it switches out of Zebstrika, but you can still use Pursuit to trap Kadabra (especially if you're combining Pursuit Zebstrika with potent setup sweepers like Linoone / non-Dual Chop Fraxure who appreciate Kadabra's Sash being broken), Roselia, and Jumpluff. Not 100% necessary though, given using Pursuit means giving up a slot for either HP Grass or HP Ice, making it easier to wall.

Magnet is bad and should be replaced with Expert Belt, which is actually decent. Magnet can be in OO. 2x's comments are also great and should be implemented if you didn't already. In C&C mention that faster Pokemon will usually need some chip damage even if with Zebstrika's mediocre bulk unless they hit it super effectively. Also call me crazy but if Snatch is in OO, then so can Me First lol (actually beats Stunfisk and Probopass if weakened).

3/3 if you do that.
