We were The Smog, then we were Article Workshop... and now we are 'A Really Cool Webzine Without a Proper Name'. Don't worry, though; that isn't our actual name. You won't know what it is until you finish reading this article. And yes, we will know when you have read the entire article, so don't try to skip ahead.
A couple of weeks ago, we asked people to suggest a new name for us. Over sixty suggestions later, we were able to shortlist that amount to a final four, but before we get to that, I want to take you back to May 2009. The Smog was decided in a similar manner as this, except that you don't actually know who came up with which names. Some of them reappeared this time around, and although some of those suggestions were great, I would like to think that the winning entry actually justifies not including any of those in the final four. A couple of months ago, we laid The Smog moniker to rest in favour of a new release system. Jellicent, likely high at the time, decided that we would call ourselves Article Workshop, instead of an actual name. Like, "Hi, skylight here, reporting for Article Workshop." You see how dumb that sounds? Yeah. That's why the name had to change.
I would've done an honorable mentions section, but most of the names were horrible anyway. I mean honorable. Anyway.
We release nightly, too. This was never going to work.
Smog. Blog. We would literally be a blog full of gas. No, thank you.
It was nice while it lasted, but nothing lasts forever.

Winning by a landslide (or, rather, a skyflight) of over 40 votes, The Flying Press is our new name. Hawlucha is likely our new mascot. Probably. Its shiny is purple, and both Weezing and Koffing are purple, so it kind of matches. Right?
BUT WAIT!
After extensive discussion, we're actually going with Smogon's Flying Press, which fits in better with Smogon as a whole, rather than The Flying Press.
I interviewed The Avalanches in regards to his reaction to his name winning.
I was reading the suggestions in the name thread, and it just clicked in my head, which was kind of odd, because it's an obscure move and I forget it exists half the time. But I thought it worked on many levels; it's new, unique, and the word 'press' fits so snugly considering what we do.
The name was given quite a lot of support very quickly, which was surprising to me. I saw a lot of other good names come from the thread, too, but I'm really excited mine won. I checked the name poll every morning hoping The Flying Press was still in the lead, and I'm relieved it's come out on top.
And there you have it. Our new name: Smogon's Flying Press. Keep an eye out for our new logo, which will debut shortly!
