Introduction to Spanish Room Art

Introduction

¡Hola! We would like to tell you about one of the most active and popular language communities of Pokémon Showdown!: the Spanish room. Our chat is the main one on the server where you may speak this widely spoken language, which not only represents the second one in terms of native speakers both IRL and on the Internet but also comprises lots of different cultures to dive in!

Not surprisingly, the room serves as a lobby for our large community of users, from Spain to Latin American countries such as Mexico, Venezuela, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, and many others. In addition, everyone who wants to learn or give this language a try will be welcomed, as this enriches our everyday conversations and grants fun and interesting moments! But the room goes further beyond the chat, so... Keep on reading to know more about us!

About the room

The room's main purpose is both casual and competitive chatting, although you will also find a range of activities to engage in! Here we would like to highlight just a few of them: While the EPL (Español Premier League) and the LJDA (Los Juegos del Azar), team tours of different tiers and cc1v1/cc2v2, respectively, offer a team custom avatar and gather lots of competitive players of our community and beyond, there are several chill events like our Monthly Live Tour Leaderboard, which gives Room Prize Winner (^) to the first three users with the most points for a few weeks, and UNO For All, including a scoreboard for this well-known card game sometimes!

We also allow some users to host their own tournaments and activities in our forum, resulting in original and fun events that feel fresh to all of us! From the sporadic Multi-Random Tour to some long-established sections like the Daily Song, where people may suggest songs to be shown in our room, and Rate My Team, where users can share a breakdown of their teams, there is a place for anything you can think of in our community! Our incredible bot, AminitraboTTT, shouldn't be forgotten either: it's the only one on Showdown that is able to battle in almost every possible format, provided it has a team on its database to play with. Be sure to challenge it and check its hax out!

How was your path in Pokémon Showdown from your beginnings to your promotion to Room Owner (#)? And what motivates you on a daily basis?

Serperior

Exi002

To be honest, it's hard to tell because it was quite long ago when I started talking in the room. My main interest during the first months was focused essentially on the tournaments, so I was not really involved in the most common conversation topics. Once I was promoted to Room Voice, the path was a lot more straightforward. I put my best efforts on making the best out of our community, and even though I could have never expected such a rapid rise, I’m really glad that the outgoing Room Owners appreciated my efforts and put their trust in me. I still love taking part in the community activities and engaging in conversations with the people I’ve been meeting during all these years, so that's my main motivation to keep entering the server, and I'm sure that this will remain for a long time.

What makes you most proud of about the room?

Serperior

Exi002

The thing I enjoy the most about our chat is the wide variety of topics that are brought out every day. It's true that most of them revolve around Pokémon, which should be the expected thing on this site, but as the thematic of our chat is free and the quantity of users is quite high comparing to other rooms, the conversations from one day can completely differ from those from the previous day. For instance, I personally find it really comforting when I enjoyed watching a certain movie and I comment about it through the chat, and some of the users reply sharing their opinions about it, or they make some recommendations based on it. I feel that talking about our hobbies improves a lot the feeling of community, and it's great, as you can always learn from other people interests.

In a few words, how would you describe the Spanish room?

Serperior

Exi002

Based on what I said before, I would remark our room as a community for every kind of person, involving at the same level both those players who are more interested in competitive Pokémon and those who play casually, and even people that are not really interested in Pokémon anymore but stay because of our miscellaneous conversations and the welcoming environment in general.

Can you give us an interesting fact about you?

Serperior

Exi002

I guess I could say that I'm definitely not the most extroverted person, however, when I find someone who shares their interests with me or I get to know them for a longer time, I can spend hours talking with them. This is something that I actually think is quite reflected with my attitude in the room, as during my first months here I didn't feel as a part of the community, but then I started to gain confidence and become more active.

How do you see the future of the room?

Serperior

Exi002

As I see it, the future of our room is completely linked to that from the whole server and Smogon, because for the newcomers, the main interest is normally on playing tournaments or trying to improve. However, some of them are surprisingly quick to integrate into the community, which is not always easy considering the fact that some of the people that remain here have known each other for years. For now, our best way of providing a welcoming environment for all these new people, that will steer the course of the chat in the future, is to promote activities across the room and our subroom eventos, which plays an invaluable role for this. Therefore, as long as the motivation of our players is maintained, my expectation is that the community will keep growing.

How was your path in Pokémon Showdown from your beginnings to your promotion to Room Owner (#)? And what motivates you on a daily basis?

Well, I started in 2017 and I was a user that didn't stand out too much and eventually left Pokémon Showdown! Then I came back in 2019 and I became active from the pandemic onwards, I was promoted to Voiced in July 2020 and by September I was already a Driver. Regarding eventos, I knew some people, but it wasn't until I played futbolito that I entered eventos and met lots of new people. After that, I supported in El Tour de Eventos, an event from that room, and in November or so I got directly promoted to Driver in the said room. In November 2022 I was promoted to Room Owner in both rooms because of my dedicated work and I felt really happy, and honestly, I felt really happy. In 2023 I was Global Driver and, from then onwards, I keep on contributing as much as I can.

And what motivates me? Sheer dedication, the fact that people enjoy our tours and events that we organize and building a community.

The future is uncertain, but I see a good and brilliant one as we are 3 new Owners with eagerness to make great things for the community

Eventos: the subroom and its activities

Eventos is the Spanish room's only subroom, whose language is also Spanish, even if English and other languages are partially allowed. Its activity is mainly based on minigames and big events. Minigames, known as 'hosts', are hosted by a user, the 'hoster', and are played by others. There are hundreds of different games classified by its category (Luck, Speed, Build and Battle, or Strategy) and they can be triggered just by asking for permission from a Room Staff. However, Big Events are the actual sauce of this room, where dozens of people from a long-consolidated community participate in really competitive and original games and activities for a few weeks or sometimes even a whole month! As you may notice, this subroom can be really complex in its own ways, but it’s full of joy and amazement, which we hope you will be trying at some point!

Conclusion

What do you think? The Spanish room has its own events, tournaments, chat mechanics, and even a subroom focused on minigames. What else can you ask for? We invite you to come around and experience for yourself everything this room has to offer. And don't worry if you don't speak Spanish, as we will be happy to welcome people of different cultures who want to learn our language!

This room will always be open for people who desire to contribute to it, so don't be afraid of asking for competitive advice or anything else to our Staff, Voiced, or most experienced users, who will gladly answer your questions. You are all welcome!
