Time for veteos + commentary! As always, you are always open to creating stuff after the fact, just kmow that we will not be extending this curtesy to those subs. Let's get this show on the road.

Also I am lifting the ability restriction - quite a few didn't 100% conform and its gonna make some balance changes alot easier moving forwar

:ss/ogerpon:

Type: Grass / Fighting
Stats: 80 / 106 / 110 / 50 / 120 / 84 | 550
Abilities: Intimidate / Prankster
Movepool: + Close Combat, Iron Head
Justification: fat pivot with intim, or can use prank encore to lock setup users or stallbreak by taking advantage of walls spamming recovery. tera exists too it outspeeds up to max base 150

:ss/ogerpon-hearthflame:
Name: Ogerpon-Hearthflame
Type: Grass / Fire
Stats: 80 / 84 / 120 / 50 / 110 / 96 | 550

Justification: hearthflame is reallly fat so along with wisp it can be a strange pivot, or it can do the regular offensive stuff when it teras

:ss/ogerpon-wellspring:
Name: Ogerpon-Wellspring
Type: Grass / Water
Stats: 80 / 120 / 106 / 50 / 84 / 110 | 550
Abilities: Water Absorb / Natural Cure
Justification: most unchanged besides def swaps and +10 def, mostly works the same as it does in vanilla

:ss/ogerpon-cornerstone:
Name: Ogerpon-Cornerstone
Type: Grass / Rock
Stats: 80 / 110 / 84 / 50 / 106 / 120 | 550
Abilities: Solid Rock / Flower Veil
Movepool: + Close Combat, Strength Sap
Justification: similarly most unchanged besides swapping atk and spe + a slight spd increase, flower veil + more consistent coverage helps it succeed more as an sd wallbreaker

Minor commentary here. Ogerpon-Hearthflame can stand to get more attack here - like around 100 - before Embody Aspect becomes an actual problem. Nothing veto worthy though, but fair enough to bring up.

Type: Grass/Water
Stats: 80 / 120 / 84 / 60 / 96 / 110 | 550
Abilities: Water Absorb / Shield Dust

Justification: don’t really see a need to change pon medium as i don’t really see issue with it

Justification: enter ruingross

General suggestion here, I know this was made during a miscommunication with the rules, but each Ogerpon can get their own movepool additions. Saying this because not sure how great Head Smash is across the board here.

The actual penalizing stuff - This isn't a nickname mod, this isn't Alternatium. Please change the names back to what they actually are.
Ogerpon-Cornerstone is too strong of a breaker with Head Smash + Rock Head considering it can use set up. One of these attributes has to go, or the submission is vetoed.

Same general tip I gave to OSP - you can give the forms unique moves if you want to.
Hearthflame here is still broken, definitely in its Tera form and arguably still too unhealthy in it's base. 130 Atk with Mold Breaker absolutely decimates all defensive counterplay without question, and after a Tera, it just becomes wack. It's speed nerf is big, but on the flipside it can now justify Adamant, making it an even bigger problem, and it always has Trailblaze to alleviate that speed issue anyways. Unfortunately, Hearthflame is vetoed.

This is mainly about Hearth. Base is 100% fine, plenty of checks, but I am concerned about it's Tera form. I am very apprehensive about this thing, it's ability is just crazy man. No Trailblaze abd Mold Breaker reins it in but it feels wack regardless. I think Embody Aspect got to be changed here, unless you guys can convince me. Unfortuntely vetoed.

Hydreigon subs are all fine, no notes.

As i said, 24 hours. Good luck!

Voting is now open! Voting will last for 48 hours, so vote for your three favorite Ogerpon quartets. You cannot vote for your quartet in first place.

Just to let yall know, scionicle's Ogerpon-Hearthflame is banned, so voting for his Ogerpons mean voting for standard HFlame, which will be auto banned to Ubers if they win.

Ok, the big winner of the night was

Stats: 80 HP / 110 Atk / 84 Def / 50 SpA / 96 SpD / 130 Spe | BST: 550
Abilities: Defiant | HA: Skill Link
Move Additions: Rock Blast, Close Combat
Move Removals: N/A
Justification: Ogerpon turns into a speed demon in a tier that is shallow on Pokemon that hit the 130+ speed tier. Even without a secondary typing, Ogerpon can threaten many threats in the tier wuth Skill Link buffed coverage. Close Combat and Rock Blast both add viable coverage to handle various threats like Togekiss and Ferrothorn.

Abilities: Mold Breaker | HA: Merciless
Move Additions: Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Focus Blast, Will-O-Wisp, Nasty Plot, Earthquake, Toxic
Move Removals: N/A
Justification: Ogerpon-Hearthflame goes from a demon Swords Dance breaker to a special breaker with a mixed leaning, especially after Terastilizing. Losing Swords Dance makes sweeping alot harder but keep in mind, Toxic + Merciless let's it be a potent breaker as well.

Move Removals: N/A
Justification: Ogerpon-Wellspring is perfect in my opinion, and because of that, I am doing very little changes. In order to coexist with the other Ogerpons though, I am making the decision to keep it as the slowest of the crew so you will have a reason to utilize the others. I gave it Strength Sap and Flower Veil, as well as increasing its bulk slightly to utilize it's role as a utility Pokémon more.

Slate 2: Super Balance Bros

These Pokémon are alll notable for being tanks or walls that were introduced in the DLCs of SwSh and SV. Slowbro-Galar had a brief stint in OU before it had to drop out due tp being out-competed by its twin Sloeking. Speaking if, Glowking is one of the best defensive pivots in OU, and perhaps will not require any reworks at all. That being said, Glowking does have a few tricks up it's sleeve that could be tweaker with. Hydrapple has a brief niche in OU, but it's biggest obstacle will be existing alongside it's brethren in Appletun and Flapple. Sinistcha is pretty straight forward, and it will be interesting to see how it can translate to OU. And finally Archaludon, who not only is doing a stint in Ubers, but would now have to compete with it's evolution as well, which makes altering it a unique challenge.

Quick Draw - First turn switched in, moves are +2 priority
Move Additions: Teleport, Toxic Spikes, Scald

Move Modifications: Syrup Bomb - 100 BP | Grass | 10 PP | 85% Acc | Traps target. It causes the target's Speed to be lowered by 1 stage at the end of each turn for 3 turns.

Quick Draw - This pokemon gains +1 Priority on its next attack when it reaches 1/2 or less of its max HP
Move Additions: Teleport, Thunderbolt, Scald
Move removals: None
Move Modifications:
Shell Side Arm - 85 BP and targets Phys Def if it would do more damage
Justification: Slowbro-g can now be a much better physical wall and falls more in line like slowbro-g as a physical counterpart to it. It now is able to really apply some pressure with corrosion, and use its bulk + recovery to get +1 priority with quick draw. With Dynamax potentially being very useful alongside quick draw to fire off strong max mindstorm or max ooze

Electro Shot - 100 BP, 5pp, and has a 100% chance to raises the users sp. atk by 1 if archaludon gets hit. Always raises in rain
Justification: Removed stalwart cuz its basically regen in this mod, and left it almost as is, with this electro shot change i feel its way more balanced and is not that strong. Covert cloak also beats it which is nice although niche. Heatproof can be useful into stuff like g-max cinderace, sun, and fire attacks where you may want to use the traits of heatproof

Move Additions: Sludge Bomb, Calm Mind
Syrup Bomb - 85 BP 100% Acc Has a 100% chance to Lower's opponents attack by 1 on hit
Move removals:
Justification: Makes hydrapple bulkier on the physical side which it will like, with more speed as well to be able to speed creep some very slow mons. With its new ability it can take advantage of stat boosts to come in and revenge kill opponents or switch out to an ally to pressure them. Storm Drain makes it a great rain check with its immunity and the threat it poses by raising its special attack. Syrup Bomb now makes it so it is able to lower the attack making its capabilities as a physical wall pretty good

Low sub turn out unfortunately, but we move.

Since Archaludon, Slowking-Galar and Sinistcha got a single submission, users will have the option to vote for it against it's standard form, via Unchanged option. Important to note that Arch will be banned to Ubers if Unchanged wins, with no nerf and a straight buff in Stalwart, it goes crazy.

For Hydrapple and Slowbro-Galar you can vote for Hydreigon's sub or mine. Single vote, given the small amount of options available.

Keeping this up for 24 hours.

Justification: Sinistcha gets a big bulk increase, addition of Will-O-Wisp and a buff to Hospitality (trade off is a lower SpA) to make it more useful on bulkier teams, and to serve as a more consistent defensive Pokémon.
:pmd/slowbro-galar:
Name: Slowbro-Galar
Type: Poison / Psychic
Stats: 95 / 90 (-10) / 110 (+15) / 115 (+15) / 75 (+5) / 30
Abilites: Quick Draw / Corrosion / Regenerator

:pmd/hydrapple:
Name: Hydrapple
Type: Dragon / Grass
Stats: 121 (+15) / 80 / 120 (+10) / 120 / 80 / 54 (+10)
Abilites: Supersweet Syrup / Storm Drain / Regenerator
Supersweet Syrup - On switch in, if the target's stat stages greater than 0 then it will lower their speed stat by 2
Move Additions: Sludge Bomb, Calm Mind

And Archaludon as is won, and will thus be joining its Ubers brethren!

Ok. Balance has historically been weak in TeraMax not only due to both mechanics in the metagame benefitting offensive playstyles much more than offensive ones, but due to being based in Gen 9, an overall much more offense friendly metagame. But not only as balance, but to lean into Gen 8's own balance heavy metagame playstyle - we will be applying some buffs to some Balance mainstays, mainly reverting buffs lost from Gen 8 to 9.

:toxapex:
+Scald, Knock Off

Toxapex gets back its two main tools to force progress against teams, allowing it to reclaim it's place as the top dog defensive glue for balance.

:slowbro::slowking::blissey::chansey::clefable:
+Teleport

Teleport was a good tool for these Pokémon to ensure they could maintain momentum in the face of very offensive threats, and was one of the tools that allowed Balance to thrive in OU.

:skeledirge:
+Infernal Parade, Spikes, Calm Mind, Rapid Spin

Skeledirge has slowly fallen to the wayside as a defensive option, due to it lacking certain utility options outside of Wisp and Unaware. Infernal Parade, Spikes and Rapid Spin gives it plenty of utility options and Calm Mind allows it to a more immediate offensive threat.

:appletun-gmax:
G-Max Ability: Grassy Surge

Brought back the fabled Grassy Surge, as the metagame has progressed, multiple defensive and offensive counterplay have arisen to reign in the initially scary threat. GSurge diversifies defensive and offensive builds alike, and gives it real reason to be used over the likes of Hydrapple and even other local Grass type defensive threats.

:sandaconda::copperajah::alomomola:
+Toxic (all), +15 Def (Copperajah only)

Toxic just gives all of these Pokemon a way to cripple their checks that will be on the rise (bulky Water and Grass types), with +15 Def letting Copper better stomach hits in the tier.

:Scovillain:
+Strength Sap

Scovillain isn't a balance pick, but I felt like it needed a form of sustain to serve it's role as an offensive pivot, and a very flavorful one at that as a villainous type of Pokémon.

Finally to wrap this up, I will be pretty busy for the immediate future, so the next slate will launch on Sunday February 2nd. You may ask why the focus on bolstering the defensive backbone of the metagame? As I said, Balance deserves diverse viable options to compete (and isn't even quite done yet) in the metagame, but as youbwill soon see, these next few slates will make that very apparent why they are necessary as well. Anyways, happy TeraMaxing everyone!

:toxapex:
+Scald, Knock Off

Toxapex gets back its two main tools to force progress against teams, allowing it to reclaim it's place as the top dog defensive glue for balance.
True, big buffs and likely makes it very very annoying, with scald + knock its very good at harassing mons now. Likely still balanced due to it being gen 8 + this and slowbro future ports all over it
:slowbro::slowking::blissey::chansey::clefable:
+Teleport

Teleport was a good tool for these Pokémon to ensure they could maintain momentum in the face of very offensive threats, and was one of the tools that allowed Balance to thrive in OU.
Clef benefits an interesting amount from wish + teleport. Imagine bringing in a g-max mon to batter the opponent with more and more hp. Slowbro is likely gonna be an amazing physical wall with teleport. I found slowking to alr be pretty good so having teleport does not change much
:skeledirge:
+Infernal Parade, Spikes, Calm Mind, Rapid Spin

Skeledirge has slowly fallen to the wayside as a defensive option, due to it lacking certain utility options outside of Wisp and Unaware. Infernal Parade, Spikes and Rapid Spin gives it plenty of utility options and Calm Mind allows it to a more immediate offensive threat.
Jesus this thing looks good, with calm mind you are already a premier unaware setup sweeper and with infernal parade you can be crazy late game especially with potential tera if you so want. I feel spikes are gonna be super annoying on some teams esp with wisp threatening most counterplay and gholdengo covers the rest. Spin likely sees use on HO, from my time playing SV UU dirge has seen some usage with flame charge so rapid spin removing hazards is likely nice for it
:appletun-gmax:
G-Max Ability: Grassy Surge

Brought back the fabled Grassy Surge, as the metagame has progressed, multiple defensive and offensive counterplay have arisen to reign in the initially scary threat. GSurge diversifies defensive and offensive builds alike, and gives it real reason to be used over the likes of Hydrapple and even other local Grass type defensive threats.
Def felt odd to have a mon that clears its own status with its g max and having g terrain as an ability lets it be a much better breaker
:sandaconda::copperajah::alomomola:
+Toxic (all), +15 Def (Copperajah only)

Toxic just gives all of these Pokemon a way to cripple their checks that will be on the rise (bulky Water and Grass types), with +15 Def letting Copper better stomach hits in the tier.
Alo benefits from this a lot, sandaconda and copper less so. Alo is gonna be super annoying in OU esp with flip turn + toxic walling out water pon. THis is not gonna be fun to fight against
:Scovillain:
+Strength Sap

Scovillain isn't a balance pick, but I felt like it needed a form of sustain to serve it's role as an offensive pivot, and a very flavorful one at that as a villainous type of Pokémon.

No comment, have not seen much of it

I got some free time on Saturday, so I guess we open a day early!

:urshifu-gmax::urshifu-rapid-strike-gmax: Slate 3: Tundra on the Isle :glastrier::spectrier:

:Ss/urshifu::ss/urshifu-rapid-strike::ss/calyrex::ss/glastrier::ss/spectrier:

All of these Pokémon are the faces of Galar's DLC and have a controversial history in competitive, both for SwSh and SV. Urshifu's base form has been banned from OU for two generations now, and it is not hard to see why. Dark + Fighting is an incredibly potent STAB combo, with it hitting so hard only resists to each move can swap in, with Poison Jab to eliminate all possible switchins. While Rapid Strike dodged the ban in Gen 8, the addition of Swirds Dance, Punching Glove and most importantly Terastilization allowed it to push itself over the edge. Not to mention both have a GMax form! How will you balance these traditionally powerful breakers with all the tools at your (and their) disposal?

The Horse trio is a bit more scattered. Calyrex is a shitmon through and through, who has never seen a lick of viability outside of ZU, where it is still outclassed. Glastrier is a fair bit better, but only barely, as the impact of beibg a slow bulky Ice type rears it's ugly head far too often for it to shine, even with utz slew of positive traits. And then Spectruer, a Pokémon with zero coverage moves and it's only STAB having a natural immunity, that got banned to Ubers twice. With Terastilization in the mix, this only compounds how potent Spectrier can be. Dragapult and Gemgar are both viable threats in the meta who take two different approachs to viable Ghost types, how will you balance Spec in a meta where it and them can thrive.

  • Grim Neigh can be modified.
  • An additional ability can be added.
  • Maximum of 6 new moves can be added (+2 if gets new STAB).
  • Must remain part Ghost.
As you can see, the Urshifus will be treated as a singular combo sub for voting purposes. If you submit one but not the other and your sub wins, the unaltered base will be added to the tier instead (and is subjecting to tiering). You are not REQUIRED to modify the G-Max Urshifus for TeraMax OU, but if you would like to, indicate that clearly in your sub. (You can alter the G-Max forms G-Max move and Ability now even if they aren't intended for OU). The Calyrex forms will be added to Ubers automatically with whatever changes that won to their moves (or abilities). Outside of that, submissions last until Sunday the 9th of February! Have fun and good luck!
