Congratulations, your sets will be added to our Hall of Fame! This next week, we'll be going back to a Paradox Pokemon that we've already visited before but is currently under review as one of the most terrifying threats in OU, this time rocking a set that can overwhelm even its sturdiest checks. With a bulkier iteration of its Dragon Dance sweeper set, can anything quiet the Roaring Moon?

:sv/Roaring_Moon:
Roaring Moon @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 200 HP / 132 Atk / 176 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Tera Blast
- Roost / Taunt
- Dragon Dance

By dropping its Speed tier and switching to an Adamant nature, Roaring Moon can vastly enhance its defensive capabilities while still retaining strength greater than that of its standard Jolly set. Its powerful Knock Off is complemented well by Tera Blast Fairy, giving it STAB coverage against Dark- and Fighting-types that may attempt to stomach its hits, and Roost can give it the longevity to set up Dragon Dances against Pokemon that would otherwise be able to eventually wear it down. Alternatively, Taunt lets Roaring Moon stifle attempts to check it with defensive setup, while also forcing walls to play a risky mindgame between attempting to recover on a Taunt or continuing to attack in a losing matchup. Tera Fairy also flips Roaring Moon's weaknesses to Dragon-, Fighting- and Bug-type attacks, along with neutralising Ice- and Fairy-type moves. Is anything in this tier able to stop this bulky threat?

This is just the OU sample set with Wisp replaced with Sludge Bomb. Gweezing resists both Knock Off and Tera Blast Fairy, so that's neat. If Moon doesn't tera, Strange Steam almost OHKOs Moon. If they do, Sludge Bomb does the job. Gweezing is bulky enough to handle enough hits from Moon, even boosted. They could try to spam roost against sludge bomb when tera Fairy, but the 30% poison will end that. And if it's a Roost set, Pain Split will do a solid chunk if Gweezing is damaged.

As a bonus, Neutralizing Gas neutralizes Protosynthesis, making Moon even weaker!

With Choice Scarf, Lando can outspeed Roaring Moon and 2HKO with EQ. Or can pivot out and deal huge amounts of damage if Roaring Moon refuses to terastilize. If the paradox Pokemon decides to Knock Off your Scarf or DD's+Atk to outspeed you on the 2nd turn, well congratulations for them. Fairy/Steel is one of the few type combinations that resists both Dark and Fairy, allowing Tinkaton to easily live three hits from Roaring Moon (or two hits after a Dragon Dance) despite its low physical bulk. It's also a great offensive type combo in this matchup, allowing Tinkaton to OHKO Roaring Moon whether it teras or not. The strategy is simple: use Play Rough (unless Roaring Moon has already teraed), and if it teras to survive the Play Rough, finish it off with Gigaton Hammer.

Kingambit would rather have at least 1 Supreme Overlord boost for the guaranteed 2HKO with Iron Head, but Kingambit can still do the job even if it has no Supreme Overlord boosts and Roaring Moon has the Booster Energy boost. Since this Roaring Moon set has only one of Roost and Taunt, Swords Dance first to be safe. If Roaring Moon Taunts on Turn 1 to wipe out Swords Dance, it gets 3HKOed at worst - and 2HKOed most of the time - by Iron Head, and any attempt to deal mega damage with Fairy Tera Blast means it gets OHKOed most of the time by unboosted Iron Head. The Air Balloon and Tera Flying are mainly here to do better against boring DD Acro Earthquake Roaring Moon sets, and the outspeed-Corviknight EVs are used to avoid the OHKO by +2 Fairy Tera Blast.

Tera Steel and Iron Head block revenge killing attempts with Tera Fairy while guaranteeing an OKO or 2KO with Iron Head. Even after a DD, the enemy cannot OKO with Knock Off, and as previously mentioned, Tera Blast Fairy gets blocked by Tera Steel. Acrobatics is a 2KO and the opposing Moon cannot OKO even after a DD. Clicking Tera is always a safe bet, as a result of this. However, if you try to save your Tera and get Tera Blasted on either the first or second turn, you lose, but this is a very reliable check otherwise. Ultimately, due to its reliance on Tera and predictions, as well as an unwillingness to hard switch into the opposing Moon, this cannot be considered a counter.

My old set was curse gyro but i forgot about both the gyro ball bp cap and the fact they gave it 8 pp for some reason, so this is much better

Jolly Nature
- Low Kick
- Gunk Shot
- Ice Punch
- Night Slash

Technically we're only considering bulky fairy moon, but ground is also everywhere rn, and this beats both of them. low kick ohkos non terad, gunk ohkos tera fairy, and +1 ice punch also ohkos.
Anything that relies on correct prediction to win isn't a check. Low Kick OHKOs, unless it teras and clicks Tera Blast, then it survives and OHKOs you. If you predict tera and click Gunk Shot instead, and it doesn't tera, it survives and Knock Off OHKOs.

Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Curse
- Gyro Ball

Not much to say, 140 base defense, curse, and low speed mean it cant ohko you and gyro does a billion back. Rest is chosen to be consistent, and if it knocks you early then it wont be able to hit you for meaningful damage without a LOT of dds, even if it is taunt
If Roaring Moon has Taunt, this isn't even a check. Again, you can't rely on predictions, so you have to be able to win even if Roaring Moon clicks Taunt the same turn you click a status move; this means Gyro Ball is the only move you can rely on. Roaring Moon can KO in three turns (Dragon Dance once then Knock Off twice; it's only a small chance of a KO, but it is a chance), while Forretress is slower and also needs three turns to KO with Gyro Ball.

Congratulations to our winners!

Your submissions will be added to the Hall of Fame shortly. Our next victim is the mermaid of OverUsed, Primarina, donning an Assault Vest to stop any special attacks from defeating it.

Primarina @ Assault Vest
Ability: Torrent
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
- Surf
- Moonblast
- Flip Turn
- Psychic Noise

Assault Vest Primarina is a great special sponge for offensive teams, being able to stomach tons of hits from threatening foes like Darkrai and specially-attacking Dragapult while hitting back hard with its great Special Attack stat, good STAB options, and Psychic Noise to annoy Poison-types like Toxapex and Pecharunt by denying their healing options. How will you stop this singing Gen 7 starter?

Submissions end on Friday, March 28th.
You may submit up to 1 check and 1 counter.

Use Power Whip first. It'll probably hit. If Primarina Terastallizes and therefore avoids the OHKO, use Ivy Cudgel and KO Primarina anyway. Note that Water Absorb prevents Primarina's Flip Turn from working.

252 Atk Wellspring Mask Ogerpon-Wellspring Power Whip vs. 80 HP / 0 Def Primarina: 570-672 (177.5 - 209.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Good ol' reliable special wall. Moonblast is a 6HKO, and Psychic Noise is worse. Seismic Toss 4HKOes. Force that Flip Turn!

252+ SpA Primarina Moonblast vs. 4 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 99-117 (15.1 - 17.9%) -- possible 6HKO

Expert Belt Sludge Wave cleanly 2HKOs Prim if it decides to not tera, and then Flamethrower can also 2HKO Prim if it teras. Meanwhile, Prim can't do enough damage to Volc in time. Water ABS also blocks Surf and Flip Turn! 100 Speed allows Volc to outspeed all 200 speed Pokemon, such as Prim!
