Pokémon Presents - Pokémon Day 2025 - Pokemon ZA Info & Pokemon Champions Announced

I've got to wonder ... seeing as Abilities are not a thing in this game, and some Mega Evolutions absolutely rely on Abilities to escape utter mediocrity due to base stats that are lower than many regular Pokémon, if there will be some other way for Megas to distinguish themselves in battle. Mega Sableye and Mega Mawile have the same BST as such titanic Pokémon as Glalie, Whimsicott, and Slurpuff (albeit with a slightly more optimized stat distribution). Mega Medicham has lower base stats than Weavile in every stat except SpA. Somehow, I doubt they are going to perform at that level in LZA, when Mega Evolution is such a hyped mechanic.

I suspect that for in-game purposes, Megas will straight up be better than regular 'mons through some innate stat boosts or power mechanics, so that no matter what Mega you pick, it will be better than having no Megas at all. And conversely, that non-Megas have no chance against Megas in battle, practically requring players to find and use one as soon as possible.
They’ve already confirmed through the gameplay previews that Megas are the only Pokemon that can do any sizable damage to Rogue Megas as well. Standard Pokémon’s damage is reduced against them.
(hence you being handed a Mega Lucario to do the first boss fight).

Considering that gameplay dynamic against the boss system, I wouldn’t be surprised if GameFreak is assuming that’s enough to make them feel powerful in a special way. They’re notoriously bad at game balance after all.

Whatever the fuck this is was not on my bingo card ngl.

I'm sold for NotDragonQuestBuildersButWithPokemon

Aaand the Mega for the starters also got confirmed as we expected.

"The game isn't out yet but we're going to announce DLC."

Yeah sure okay Game Freak.
Considering that apparently Legends Z-A was supposed to release November last year and its DLC this past summer, I feel that’s the only reason it was announced this soon. In the original plans the Mega Dimension would have probably been announced after release, but at this point the DLC has been completed for a while now.

Either way, it’s great knowing that there are still surprises left in store, for those following the leaks.

Unironically I have never been as hyped for a single Nintendo Direct in years, if ever. Dragon Quest, Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, Metroid, Hyrule Warriors, the new Ditto spinoff actually looks cool (hoping it's more like DQ Builders), and things that were not in the leaks.

I do not like the designs at all (genuinely first Megas revealed for ZA I find ridiculous but not in the good way), but I'm happy for Raichu Fans.

Chesnaught looks so damn cool tho. As someone who picked Chespin the first time I feel validated. It just feels surreal to imagine seeing this back ik the XY era.

official renders for mega raichu x and mega raichu y (one of these reminds me of Gorochu descriptions)

Looks like Gorochu has come back to life as one of two Mega Raichus, indeed.

And Raichu now joins the club of Charizard and Mewtwo as one of those Pokemon with two Megas. And this time, Raichu gets something over Pikachu again.

gotta be honest this direct was kind of whatever, normal 7/10 direct for me

UNTIL THEY SHOWED 5 NEW MEGAS OUT OF NOWHERE
ngl probably one of the worst Directs I've ever seen. It was long af and only good for like a 10 minute period starting with the Metroid Prime 4 segment part 40 minutes in. Plus they somehow didn't have the Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection that was announced by Capcom externally during the Direct lol.

At least we have something to talk about here, cause there isn't much else to say for a general Nintendo discussion.
