So that would just give us a chance to have more time to think then?

You've not counted on the bs random ability that a mafia will have in which when its 6 town vs 4 mafia all of town randomly dies for no reason

Yeah this is why I think asking why mafia would step up to save other mafia is a bit illogical, we dont know the roles they have. For example they could have a role in which they're more powerful the more mafia they have or another like hex master (ToS) that can spread a plague and is convenient for them to lynch random town.
