Thank you for the reasonable responses. I don't really are about tiers though. Most of the pokemon I like are "underused," some "border line," and others "overused." I think I'll just go to Marriland and see what I can find there, they might be more my level.
In BL (which is borderline), you're allowed to use everything that isn't OU or uber. Many teams actually have a ration of ~3 BL:3 UU.

However, if you mean playing for fun literally, like using just your favorite Pokemon, you have two options. One is to pick a viable one amongst them and build a team around it. I actually grew to like a couple of Pokemon this way (Blastoise, Vespiquen, and Marowak....<3). The other is, yeah, go to Marriland, or play against your friends, because here, most people think in terms of strategy and what can best achieve you victory. I can kind of relate....my favorite Pokemon is Mewtwo, yet I would never ever touch ubers for my life D:

You're very close. What it is saying is, if you have more than 100 EVs in a stat, then using one EV reduction berry will drop it down to 100. So you could have anywhere from 101 to 255 in the stat, but you'll still end up with 100. Once you have 100 or less EVs in the stat, then each the berry will subtract 10 EVs per used. So to answer your question, it takes 11 berries maximum like the guide said (1 for the drop to 100, 10 for getting down to 0 from there), not 26.

Hopefully that clarified it for you.

I understand what it is saying, but I just wanted a different interpretation because to me this does not make sense at all.

Was this also true in 3rd Generation? I know for a fact that I have used numbers of berries in the 20's in order to reduce a Pokemon's stats, even when that Pokemon "adores" me. Eventually it says "it would have no effect", but I have used it MUCH more than 11 times before it stops saying "___ was lowered" or whatever.

Can someone help me here? I'm kind of going insane. ^_^

Well, I do avoid ubers; I feel weird controlling the being that created the earth, or the seas, or the universe for that matter. I wouldn't mind the birds or dogs as much because I think there's supposed to be more than one of each in existence. What about mew and celebi, are they one-and-only or a race? I know heatrans are a non-legendary species, they even have genders. You just can't breed them and you only find one per adventure... All the same, I think it's teh first "only one" pokemon to not be particularly mythical, just really strong and rare.

Im seeing a LOT of questions here on IVs, EVs and the like. A quick google search can find your answer, but if thats not your cup of tea heres my brief, clear explanation:

IVs:
A random number between and including 0-31, placed in every stat, in addition to the stat points it gets. Every pokemon gets one in every stat.

How to calculate:
You can get a rough calculation of IVs by using Metalkids calculator, so search for that. You can also do an "IV batlle" where your pokemon are autoleveled to 100 in online play. You can then write down the stats and figure out the exact IVs from either Metalkids IV calculator or from a web-site called serribii. Trust me, once you've tried it once its easy.

Pokemon chariteristics are also based upon IVs. The guy in the building above the poke center in emerald battle frontier also gives you an inclination, saying "a flawless!" if the stat is 31.

EVs: Every pokemon has 510 EVs free when you first obtain it. For every battle it ever enters, if it knocks out a pokemon (or recieves exp from exp.share) it gains an EV. Each pokemon gives different EVs to you in different stats, which you can discover from the Serribii web site. YES, that does mean pokemon you have EVER entered battle with has them already.

255 is the max you can put in each stat. Every 4 effort values will add 1 to the stat. Since 255/4 = 252, the 3 extra are wasted so do not max to 255.

The energy items (carbos, iron etc) add 10 EVs each to a maximum of 100 in a stat. Yes, that eats into your 510. Pokerus doubles, as well as the training belt thing (cant remember its name? its been a while for me) double your EV uptake from defeating a pokemon. You cannot gain EVs at level 100. Certain berries can remove EVs. The energy guru in slateport in R/S/E tells you if you have maxed effort values on a pokemon, and if you have gives that pokemon an "effort ribbon". Hence the name.

If still confused, feel free to PM me to stop this thread getting cluttered. Cheers.

The way EV-reducing berries (#21-26) function doesn't really make sense. Why should the first berry work differently than the following ten? There's no good reason.

You just have to accept that this is how EV-reducing berries operate. I can't vouch for the 3rd generation games, but in Diamond and Pearl 11 berries will do the trick. It's simply programmed that way.

Okay. Can anyone vouch for R/S/E for me?

Also, as I did not know that the first berry functioned differently than the next 10 after it, I may have EV trained incorrectly. Is there any way I can find out what a Lv100 Pokemon's EV's are/if they are maxed?

The EV-reducing berries can actually give you a clue as to whether you've gone wrong or not. If the stat is supposed to have 252 EVs and you use a berry on it you'll instantly lose 152 EVs, which is equal to losing 38 points in the stat itself at level 100 with a neutral nature. If the stat only goes down slightly something is wrong with the EV spread.

Also, I checked a couple FAQs for Emerald and it seems that in 3rd generation you would actually need 26 berries to reduce a stat to zero from 252. So the special behavior where the berry reduces EVs over 100 to 100 was introduced in this generation. Surely many berries have been conserved as a result!

Okay, thank you very much. I was under the impression that the actual stat of a Pokemon doesn't change until a level is gained. Is this still true for Pokemon at level 100?

That's normally true but there are a few exceptions. When you use berries to reduce EVs you'll see the loss right away. Boxing a Pokémon and taking it back out will also update its stats to reflect EV changes.

Where is a good place to train special attack in emerald?
I would apreciate it if someone gave me a list of places to train in Emerald
The route where Spindas are common is the best. Also fight the Slugmas you find there.

I'll try, but I lost Emerald a long time ago...

Attack: Fish for Carvanha in the water in the place you get Castform.
Defense: I forgot....
Special Defense: Surf for Tentacool
Speed: I forget too, although fishing for Magikarp works.

I'm confused, Serebii says that Super Luck doubles the stage that you would normally have (1 becomes 2, 2 becomes 4) while Smogon says that it simply raises a stage. So according to Serebii, you can 50% CH with an Absol with Night Slash and Scope Lens and no Focus Energy. I'm more inclined to believe Smogon but I want to know who's wrong.

Also, could an Absol using Night Slash with a Lansat Berry activated and a Scope Lens tricked to it get 50% critical hit rate. I'm guessing yes.
