Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

I don't exactly understand how the encounter slots work. For example, if I'm going to catch a Pokemon that has the encounter slot 2, what does it mean? And how do I catch a Trophy Garden Pokemon? Do I have to speak to the owner and get that Pokemon to "appear" in Trophy Garden first, before proceeding with the steps of hitting the right delay, target time and frame and getting the right "encounter slot"? The Platinum Charts don't show the exclusive Pokemon in Trophy Garden...

All areas have 11 encounter slots. If you want to catch a Pokemon in Encounter Slot 2, that means you need to find a frame which causes a Slot 2 pokemon to appear. Remember how there are multiple frames? Each frame will cause a Pokemon of a set slot to appear.

As for the Trophy Garden, you can SR in front of Mister Blacklot to determine what pokemon will appear on that day. This will be the 'Current' slot. You can then go to the Trophy Garden to RNG as normal. The pokemon will not change until you talk to Mr. Blacklot again, upon which you'll have a new Current slot Pokemon, while the previous one will be in the "Previous Trophy Garden pokemon" slot.

Yeah, once you have the Pokemon you want in the Garden, just save it there. That pokemon will be in the 6th slot, so you're going to want a spread that will put Sweet Scent (Grass/Cave) = 6. If you can't find a spread that puts Sweet Scent (Grass/Cave) = 6, 7 can work too as this is the slot for yesterday's pokemon, so wait a day and talk to Backlot again. To view the slots for your spread, right click on the it and select "Calculate Encounter Slots"

Also, mingot, I noticed a few problems with the spreadsheets. Some of the values in the "seed" column are either entirely pound signs (########) or are not 8 digits long (ex: 480000000000, 30272). I just wanted to let you know.

Well, they are really not spreadsheets, they are CSV (comma delimited text) files. Open one in notepad or another text editor to see. I am not sure what spreadsheet software you are using, but if it is excel highlight the entire row and, from the right mouse button menu, select format and then choose text.

What is going on is that excel is saying "these must be numbers" and replacing the ones it cannot understand (visually, the underlying text is still there) as '########'. If you select the actual cell you will see that the contents show up in the edit field under the menu.

As for them being 'not 8 characters' I would be surprised if any were MORE than 8 characters in the display, but not if some were less, because excel will not generally show leading zeros. Leading zeros do not change a number. I used to think this was common knowledge, but it seems to come up daily (usual in regards to SID) so I guess it's important for me to say this here and to likely in the OP:

01 is the same as 1.

00001 is the same as 1.

0000000000001 is the same as 1.

So anywhere you enter a number the choice between entering 1 or 0000000001 or 00001 is up to the user and it really does not make any difference. Because they are the same number.

@mingot; when a PID starts with a 0, then when you extract that using the CSV option in RNG Reporter the 0 is missing at the begin (example; in RNG Reporter: 012345 and in the extracted CSV: 12345).....

I've just hit my delay for the 10th time, on the 4th different spread I've used. I walked exactly 128 steps with with my five pokemon, so with my frame of 6, the darkrai should've been shiny, but it wasn't. Again. What's wrong?

Did you do what I said? Find out what frame the Darkrai you did catch. If it had the same nature and IVs as the shiny one you were planning on getting, then you have your ID and SID wrong.

I'm using a synchronizer. So how to I find the frame?

Well, find the IVs of the Darkrai. In RNG reporter, have your seed in there, have method J listed and the syncher nature listed below it. Then generate and look for the IVs your Darkrai had. It should be on the same frame as your target was, if not just look up and down around it.

yeah, it was on six, just liked tried for.

Give us everything.

Your SID.

The target seed.

The time you are resetting.

Your target time.

The exact IVs and nature, or ALL stat information, of the monster you did catch.

The exact IVs and nature, or ALL stat information, of the monster you want to catch.

Exactly what you did to advance to frame.

What monster.

Where you are capturing it.

All of it.

my platinum sid is 46888

I'm resetting at 6:51 0 seconds

my target time is 6:51 14 seconds

the darkrai's IVs are 27 17 2 11 28 28 it has a gentle nature like my synchronizer

I walked 128 steps exactly after loading the game, to advance the frame by 5

and I captured darkrai at new moon island

I don't know what a target seed is

If you don't know what the target seed is how are you actually doing pretty much anything? If you don't know what you are aiming for you can't really tell if you hit it.

Additionally, what date?

I mean I don't know exactly what a target seed is.

the date is 1/1/2000

Edit your posts, don't double post.

Ok, that frame is shiny, now explain to me how you are certain you are hitting your target time and delay?

first I don't advance the rng until I get the right coin flips. Then I confront darkrai. But it's never shiny, so I capture it and use it as my seed.

Ok, so what are the IVs of the ones that you are catching? If they are exactly the same as the one that are targeting then you have your SID and/or ID wrong.

Okay, I just want to make sure that this process is correct. Let me know if you see any flaws.

I want to get a Giratina in Platinum with IVs 31/x/31/31/31/x and and a Bold nature. To do this, it said that I had to hit frame 430. I clicked on Generate Times, and it gave me a date of 7/31/09 time 15:31:00 delay 601. I then set my DS clock to that date at 15:30:00. Then, I load the game and reset at 15:30:48 because my delay time is 12 seconds. Once the game boots up that time, I make sure if I hit my time by using the Coin Toss application and flipping it 10 times, looking for HHTTHHHTHT because that is what Seed to Times told me. If that checks out, to hit frame 430, I must subtract 12 for battling with Giratina, making it 418. Then I divide that by 2 to be 209. Then I simply journal flip 209 times and battle and catch Giratina.

And all of that will give me my desired spread? This will be my first attempt at RNG abuse, thanks in advance for any help :)
Okay, I've now done this twice, and the result has been the same. I get a Giratina that is Adamant 16/23/20/9/5/24. This can only result from the seed F80F0262 at frames 351, 429, 441, and 457. I just don't understand how this would happen. I simply ran the 10 coin tosses to confirm that I had hit the seed, opened up my Journal, turned to a page that had one of the catch lines, turned to an adjacent one that had that line, and rinsed and repeated. Does turning to a page that doesn't have one of these messages up the frame count? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Of course they would still have the same seeds, but I still don't know why I'm not getting the right frame, especially since I've done nothing to oddly increase the frames, at least to my knowledge :(
