Hydreigon

Is it just me or is Hydreigon friggin amazing?

Huge coverage, good defenses, great resists, and a downright badass design. The only thing that I ever have a problem with is its disappointing Speed, but even then, that's a mixed blessing because it allows you to put some investment into its bulk.

One of the best Pokemon I've ever used, hands down.

Actually the choice specs set only covers 10/18 types not 11. Also dark pulse in replace of surf would offer 11/18 super effective typings and would be a good alternative STAB move.

Outrage
Draco Meteor
Flamethrower
Dragon Pulse / Dark Pulse / Taunt / U-Turn / Whatever
Naughty; 208 Atk / 108 SpA / 192 Spe

2HKOs all of chansey, Blissey, and Jellicent while OHKOing Ferrothorn. All are assuming maximum defenses and HP.

I'd like a way to not be forced to Outrage to clear out Chansey. Any chance a Work Up set with Crunch, Dragon Pulse, and Surf would work better? Same EVs as above since those seem to hit important target numbers lol, and Dragon+Water get good neutral coverage, with stab Crunch giving a nice physical non-lock attacking option

Not possible, Hydreigon cannot OHKO even Blissey with +1 max attack LO STAB Crunch. Dragon + Water + Dark fails to hit Ferrothorn, which he specifically wanted to do.

How many workups does he need to KO with focus blast?

Max SpA LO Hydreigon needs 3 Work Ups to guarantee the OHKO 252/0 Bold Blissey with Focus Blast, an unreasonable number considering the pace of the metagame. And that Blissey hasn't even invested in SpD - Chansey's Eviolite means 4 Work Ups are needed to guarantee the OHKO.

A +1 Crunch to Blissey is 55.9% - 65.7%, which is good enough. Also, abandon ship on Surf. If you want a physical Work Up set, go Crunch, Focus Blast, and Dragon Pulse. Special sets should go Dark Pulse, Focus Blast, and Outrage.

Even with Modest and 383 SpA, it doesn't do enough damage for me while using Dragon Pulse/ Surf/ Flamthrower/ U-turn :L

Should I try to get a Timid one instead? What notable Pokemon (Besides Starmie) do I outspeed with Modest + Scarf rather than with Timid + Specs?

so hydrgion and salamence are identical? there typing is the only thing that differs them and the fact that hydrgion can actually take hits unlike salamence.

Uhm.. Mence has Intimidate, he can take hits pretty well on the physical side, while my Hydreigon dies to like, every move that has a BP of over 75 :L

you can outspeed +1 Gyarados as well as +1 Dragonite with Modest + Scarf but honestly, Im liking Timid + Specs way more than Modest + Scarf. The power advantage that Specs gives cannot be ignored.

Modest + Scarf allows you to get ahead of Scarfed base 90s but thats pretty much it. Maybe DD Haxorus?

Well, if I see a DD Haxorus I'd usually just switch to Ferro on the obvious Outrage :L

I think I'll try for a Timid one. Should I get one with Dark Pulse? If so, what is it useful for besides Reuniclus?

To be honest, I never really needed Dark Pulse on Hydreigon as Dragon covers most things that Dark does. Heck, a Choice Specs DP already does tons of damage to Reuniclus.

If you're talking about a choice scarf one, I would recommend that you keep Modest instead of using Timid because Hydreigon needs all the power it can get in order to dent things with its attacks.

Oh okay, thanks. However, I need to know if Dark Pulse OHKO's the standard Reuniclus coming from 383 SpA with STAB, because if it Tricks me a Flame Orb and I lose my Scarf, I'm probably screwed

And then cry because a +1 Outrage still does a ton of damage.

If my (usually wrong) calcs are correct +1 Outrage has a decent chance to 2HKO against Relaxed/252 HP/128 Def Ferrothorn

Then that's bad cuz my Ferro is Careful :L

But oh well, if Ferro dies I'd just revenge the Haxor with Dory since I usually only use the Ferro on my Sandstorm team

I bred for one for my ingame team, knowing:
Surf, Flamethrower, Dragon Pulse, Dark Pulse
Yeah, getting Dark Pulse was a pain in the ass, since I only have one DS and the Pokemon I painstakingly found to pass on the move, had the move deleted by the Daycare people (bastards).
But yes, I am very satisfied with this Pokemon, and I often have to avoid using it because it will kill everything and gain all the experience and become too overpowered. Kinda sucks, but when you think about it, it just goes to show you how intense this thing is.

THIS IS NOT SALAMENCE. Mence is a speed-boosting sweeper or mixed wallbreaker which can capitalise on Intimidate, and maybe Wish and Roost. Hydreigon has lower speed and no way to boost it outside of a scarf. It's more of a slow Flygon with U-Turn and Draco Meteor or a Taunt abuser.

Good poke. Good. Not great.

I agree. Things outspeed it when it's Scarfed, like other Scarfed Pokemon with slightly higher Speed, or setup sweepers like Salamence and Doryuuzu, limiting its effectiveness. I mainly use it for its resistances (maybe I'm just using it wrong, but it's easy to switch into Pokemon trying to hit my Reuniclus with Ghost/Dark moves)

Sorry for re-stating the blatantly obvious facts though :L

I think Specs will probably be its greatest niche. It's got many opportunities to switch in, is fairly bulky, and has a pretty great movepool. That speed is so weird though!
