Floatzel

Good old Floatzel. Pretty much a physical Starmie counterpart... that isn't as good.
This generation didn't change this weasel that much... although now it has 2 new things going for it: burn imminity and Switcheroo.

New stuff are going to be Underline and Italic.

Gen 4 Tutors (only worth moves):

Possible Movesets:

Band Weasel

Floatzel @ Choice Band
EVs: 252 Atk/ 252 Spd/ 4 HP
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Swift Swim/ Water Veil
-Waterfall
-Crunch/ Brick Break
-Ice Punch/ Ice Fang
-Switcheroo

Keep in mind: if you use Water Veil as the ability, you can't use Ice Punch. So Ice Fang is the replacement.
With it's new toy, Switcheroo, Floatzel makes a fine Choice Bander thanks to it's great speed and good Atk. Best when used on Rain: Floatzel outspeeds basically anything under Rain with Swift Swim.

BU offensive weasel

Floatzel @ Life Orb
EVs: 252 Atk/ 252 Spd/ 4 HP
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Water Veil/ Swift Swim
-Bulk Up
-Waterfall
-Crunch/ return
-Ice Fang/ Ice Punch/ Baton Pass/ Low Kick/ Aqua Jet

This set makes use of Water Veil. Now it can't be burned, so you have more opportunities to switch in and Bulk Floatzel up.
Again: use Ice Fang if you use Water Veil as the ability. Otherwise use Ice Punch. Same to Low Kick.

My opinion: Unfortunately, Floatzel didn't gained much. Switcheroo is a good bonus for Choice sets though.

Sorry if this isn't a good format >_>

Does Water Veil counteract Flame Orb? Because that'll be amazing with Switcheroo.
there are pokes that can do this trick better.

i think the switcheroo cb set looks pretty solid since most of his switch ins won't enjoy receiving a band and waterfall hits pretty hard.
Aquajet should an be option although he is fast he enough especially in the rain where he will be seen in most of the times.

@M BLADE your format is okay btw just remember too add base stats next time :P

Floatzel @ Flame Orb
EVs: 32 HP / 252 Atk / 48 Def / 176 Spe
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Water Veil
-Bulk Up
-Waterfall
-Return / Ice Punch
-Switcheroo

Silly Physical attackers. They'll find it hard to take Floatzel down when they're burned and Floaty is boosting his poor defense and fantastic attack stats. What makes this set work is the fact that they'll keep on trying to take Floatzel down, even when burned, giving you a free chance to set up.

ugh. My computer is super slow now...

Thanks for the heads up Burning Man. Just added it's stats.

About Flame Orb: a good thing about Switcheroo Flame Orb (despite Floatzel crap defenses) is that the ones immune to burn (mostly fire pokes) are KOed by Floatzel's STAB attack.
I'll add Wynought set if anyone else finds it good.

I don't know, I have to disagree with the whole Water Veil ordeal. With DrizzleToad running around, Swift Swim Floatzel is gonna be popular as ever, but perhaps Switcheroo/Flame Orb could see some usage.

Floatzel outside of Rain still has great potential. I doubt Floatzel will rise out of NU, and I doubt Politoed will stay NU ¬¬

So, let's prepare for Floatzels' solo career.

Do it better?

Seaking and Wailord? Hardly!

Politoed's Bitch

Floatzel @ Life Orb
EVs: 232 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def / 16 Spe
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Swift Swim
-Waterfall
-Return
-Ice Punch
-Taunt / Crunch / Brick Break / Aqua Jet / Bulk Up / Pursuit

Floatzel really would've appreciated Encourage; base 115 speed and 105 attack with a 120 BP Waterfall, 112.5 BP Ice Punch, and 120 BP Crunch would've been no joke. It's a shame too, because it's such a cool Pokemon.

i was always a fan of floatzel and i am sad to see she barely got anything worth using. most stuff that would bother in burning floatzel are stuff she cant beat(maybe dusk since +1 crunch 2hko but meh).

i agree. encourage would be so good on floatzel specially with that speed. a waterfall that almost match lucario CC? yes please.

Sadly, we're stuck with Water Veil, so...

When i think about Water Veil i think of... Mismagius, Spiritomb or Rotom. If those aren't scarfed, chances are that Floatzel can beat it (mainly Spiritomb, whom Floatzel can use Bulk Up).

The only real thing is Swtcheroo, which makes Floatzel a cooler Choice Bander . And the novelty Trick Flame Orb, but Floatzel low defenses are a letdown (though it's speed means you can Trick almost anything before it gets attacked).

heh sorry. was thinking OU(dusk, rotom forms. etc).

floatzel hp is above average so it kinda pay off for those defenses. with bulk up all you gotta watch out for are special moves, more specific t-bolt. now think...which pokemons that learn t-bolt will enjoy eating a +1 waterfall/crunch/brick break? hp eletric/grass also count i suppose.

overall it dindt won a lot but i guess its better then nothing....

btw floatzel base hp is 85, not 95.

it's a shame floatzel does not learn thunderpunch. though even if it did physical moves are so much weaker than special it wouldn't stand up to starmie anyway.

I can dream!

It gained Aqua Tail in its level up moves, but doesn't have Claw Sharpen?

Last gen it was deprived of Swords Dance, too, and now Claw Sharpen? It doesn't even get Cheer Up. D:

I think Nintendo secretly hates it just like they do with all my favorites (Delcatty, Ampharos, Flareon...). I mean, it has claws... so why doesn't it get Swords Dance/Claw Sharpen? And it sure is able to cheer me up. xD

Why is Ice Punch recommended with the Switcheroo sets?

Regardless of whether you use Swift Swim or Water Veil-if you're using Switcheroo, you're breeding it in Gen V, and thus can't get Ice Punch on it.

I realize it's slashed as an option, but it's not an option on strictly Switcheroo sets.

While this thread's still necro'd I'd like to share this:

Floatzel (M) @ Flame Orb
Trait: Water Veil
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Return / Crunch
- Taunt
- Switcheroo

Floatzel got Water Veil so why not abuse it a little? While this looks like a set to be abused on a Rain team, I've actually found it more effective against Rain. Nothing on a Rain team likes having it's item taken away and especially if it's replaced by a status orb. Politoed gets burned with no Leftovers so you're going to win the weather war nearly guaranteed as Politoed has to switch in & out with an incurable Burn. Toxicroak switches into Waterfall and laughs only to find itself crying the next turn as his Lunch gets stolen and replaced by a nasty orb. Tentacruel gets entirely shut down by Taunt & Flame Orb. Dragonite hates having it's Multiscale entirely nullified. Crunch is for Starmie & Jellicent, Return is for everything else. Brick Break for Ferrothorn if you really want to, I'd just Switcheroo or Taunt then get the hell out, but it's your call.

PO isn't letting you use Switcheroo with Swift Swim.

One problem? Is that everyone knows that Floatzel will likely be running WV and Switcheroo now, because it's almost outclassed by Kabutops as a SS sweeper. If they see you using Floatzel without Politoed, they likely suspect something already.

Floatzel @ Damp Rock
255 SpA / 255 SpD
Nature: Hasty
Ability: Swift Swim
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Focus Blast
-Rain Dance

Floatzel is usually used as an offensive Water, but here we're using it as a Special Attacker. Surf is its main STAB move, which can be boosted by Rain Dance and is further boosted by the Damp Rock. Ice Beam is for taking out Serperior and other Grass-types that attempt to switch in, and Focus Blast is for taking out physical Steels like Registeel.

Why is it Hasty natured? That's not a mixed set.
