The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

This post is about the traveling from the 4th dungeon to the 5th, so even though you may be able to have gotten past this point, I'm going to recommend you don't read it until you finish the 5th dungeon to make sure you don't get spoiled. (SRS if you respond to this post without hide tags, I will dress up as you next Halloween and run around the movie theaters spoiling all the endings)

Apparently the Lanayru temple boss isn't one of a kind, and makes a repeat entrance as a mini boss, something i've never before seen in a Zelda game. The mine cart riding was extremely fun, and I'd like to hug whoever came up with the idea of sailing around in a sea of sand (that used to be sea) with a time crystal in your boat.

↑ Just did that tonight. Gotta gather a few treasures so I can finish maxing out my new items and fill my bottles and whatnot before going back to enter the boss's room.

That was one of the trippiest concepts I've encountered in any game, Zelda or otherwise. How can the world around you not be what it so obviously is? But it is and isn't both at the same time...

?????

There's a lot of firsts in this game. And that's pretty keen, in my opinion! In the below spoiler, I'll be talking about events leading right up to the 7th dungeon.

Man, that water dragon. Seriously, collecting those tadpoles made me feel deja vu towards Mario Sunshine or something. Needless to say, I wasn't very pleased. However, the final spirit search totally made up for it. I'm about to enter the temple eeeeeeeeeeeee!

7th dungeon was probably the one that took me the longest to figure out

oh god the pirate captain refight raped me like 3 times

I just found out (on accident) that you can pluck arrows out of the air with the fourth dungeon item
whip
.

i once "stole" an arrow from an enemy archer. that is, it felt in front of me and i kinda accidentally picked it up. p cool.

In Twilight Princess when I was working my way to the bottom of the Cave of Ordeals I always took time at the entrance to the one room where a Bokoblin would shoot arrows at you to dodge his arrows and pick them up to re-stock myself for the later rooms. Considering how plentiful they are I couldn't imagine any other use for it beyond the (quite satisfying) novelty of killing a Bokoblin with its own arrow.

Speaking of the Cave of Ordeals, that was the absolute pinnacle of my experience with Twilight Princess. I don't think it'd be too spoilerific if I asked, is there anything comparable to that in Skyward Sword? I've read what y'all have said about the Hero Mode and that sounds fun, but honestly my heart sank when I started the game and realized I had a mandatory 6 hearts. I really was looking forward to a 3 heartpiece quest at some point. Hopefully the difficulty of Hero Mode will make up for that.

Yes, I will tell you that towards the end of the game, by talking to a certain character, you will enter a 50 room trial. (Pretty much exactly the same as the Cave of Ordeals).

It's incredibly difficult...like unreal

The cave of Ordeals is not as difficult as it sound. Actually i found it incredibily easy... until those darknuts made me repeat the whole thing 2 times , and for what? stupid navis everywhere! that was not worth my day.

Also, does anyone knows how to fly at night?

50 room trial in SS? Where is this at?! The only challenge I know of is the
Thunder Dragon Boss Rush

@ZcX - to my knowledge you cannot fly at night. Why would you need to do so anyways?

What does everyone think of the music soundtrack? It was all orchestrated (I think) and im curious about what people think about it, compared to games like Windwaker and TPrincess. I personally find the music in main place, where you start out, very catchy to the point where it sticks in my brain like pyrite town in pokemon colloseum/XD. The rest of the music has been pretty good, and up to scratch from previous games.

Does anyone else here think that Z-targetting is unnecessary in this game? I swear that my hits connect more easily if I just swing the remote without targetting (if I target I usually hit the opponent's guards and get punished). I mean, Z-targetting is still useful for locating enemies and stuff, but otherwise I just don't bother with it anymore. I don't know maybe it's just me.

You just made my day. Thank you. :)

Sadly, this is the first Zelda game I've played in a while where I never really stopped to listen to the music. It was good, it fit the game, but it never really felt "special" to me like most of the series' music has. Maybe it's just that I've grown up and it has no nostalgia factor, but the only song I really loved was the Zelda's Lullaby mix they play later in the game.

The red symbol on the Hylian shield kinda looks like Links Loftwing

fuck, it does ._.

also interested in how to access the cave of trials thing, I assume it's part of a side quest I ignored in my first playthrough?

What the hell? May I know where you found this?! I've been searching online and surprisingly there is no information whatsoever...

Just beat the main story for the first go, might try Hero mode when I feel like it. :/

Few issues here -- why exactly does Fi decide to just leave? She was a pretty convenient character, though Skyward Sword didn't give her much depth other than being a computerized Navi. It doesn't make practical sense to me exactly why she had to disappear into the sword forever. Future Links would've surely appreciated her help. The game says that she must return to the sword because her mission is complete, but that seems like a bogus reason to me. Lazy scriptwriting? For that matter, the whole ending from returning to the past up to the credits seemed sort of rushed to me. I did enjoy the final few fights, but I felt like Demise should have been an epic drawn-out marathon fight like the final battle in Twilight Princess, though perhaps I just had too high of an expectation. The first Ghirahim fight and the Demise fight were one of the few times I've felt real adrenaline in a one-on-one battle in a video game since I was a kid, just because the characters were so annoying to battle, and they felt so sinister. Tl;dnr: epic ending, but it still felt lacking.

Now that the rant is over, a few questions. Demise says his incarnations will return again and again. So the most obvious implication is that Ganon is a form of Demise. But does this also imply that other Zelda villains such as Vaati are also forms of Demise? And the other point that bugged me was about the map; the different areas of Hyrule are separated by provinces, but the names don't return until Twilight Princess. I'd like an explanation of what happened to the provinces during Ocarina of Time, and why the names came back in Twilight Princess.

monsters_inc_3.jpg

it kind of ruined it for me

ugh i hate clicking this thread why do i click this thread when i haven't played this funcking game!!

Finally beat the Cave of Ordeals, it was fun, but not worth it considering you don't get that good of a reward.....

Still it's a lot of fun for people who loves challenges, the final rooms are pretty insane.

Someone on the internet give it a name since it doesn't have an official one so that I can easily look up the cave. I like the name Trial of Grooseland, but I don't know where the damn challenge is.
