Two questions: a) How important is IV breeding and b) What's the best way to go about it.

Simply I just trained up my first EV trained pokemon: a Porygon-Z. I used my evolution items and a couple unique TMs and was feeling pretty good about the pokemon. But then I stumbled across an IV calculator (I think Serebiis) and if I calculated it correctly it came out with some pretty horrible IVs (0 in speed!). So basically is it worth IV training my pokemon (it looks very complicated and time-consuming), do I not stand a chance in competitive play without great IVs?

I just migrated my Tangela [31 IV in HP] and Ditto [31 IV in DEF] to Diamond. I've saved before getting an egg, because I do know it's going to be Impish, so now all I do is get it, hatch it, and see if it has 31 IVs in HP and DEF, correct?

Yeah, but If it goes over Dragon Pulse it can't dent Mence/Chomp/Nite, if it goes or Shadow Ball is can't hit Gengar/Zam/Gallade/Gardy as hard, and it's not going over Aura Sphere or Calm Mind, it defeat the purpose of Calmcario.

I'm making an assumption here, but I don't think Lucario should be taking on Dragons anyway (Garchomp's Earthquake, Salamence's Flamethrower, and Dragonite is fairly bulky).

EDIT: Swampert causes problems too, but at least you should be able to OHKO it, unlike the Dragons, which are usually faster than Lucario. (Damage calcualations would be greatly appreciated!)

I can't do any calculations because I haven't calculated Calmcario's EVs, I think Max Speed is a given, but I need to figure out how many HP EVs I should have, assuming the IVs for HP are 0, I still don't know how many IVs it has in that stat, so worst case scenario.

yes but the probability for that is pretty low, 1:64...HP is the hardest IV to pass, defense second hardest...for example if you would do the same but with attack and speed the probability would be 1:17, check out part III of the smogon breeding guide in my sig for more info on probabilities of IV passing

Why is that? Shouldn't the probability for any given IV to be passed be equal (HP as likely as say, Special Attack)?

An answer would be appreciated! :)

It's because 3 random IVs from the parents are passed down. One from any stat, one from any stat BUT HP, and one from any stat BUT HP OR DEF.

How about this: is it impossible to teach Togekiss Body Slam outside of FR/LG?
Spheal with Body Slam + Marill = Marill with Body Slam + Togetic = Togetic with Body Slam

should i give my arcanine an adamant or jolly nature? he's gonna have maxed speed and atk EVs, but is there anything that a jolly nature would let him outspeed? he's running extremespeed, but is that enough to give him an adamant nature?

it is, in ruby, sapphire, fire red and leaf green...but not in emerald, diamond and pearl, please read part I of the breeding guide, we got info straight from the game code

as for KLSmash´s question, that happens and can happen, for example I have two identical magikarps (not cloned) it has something to do with how the ingame random generator works, as it is not really "random" but depends on things like time...I´m not an expert on this, but under specific circumstances it will create the same results...there is a research topic in stark mountain, called something like "IVs of wild pokemon" or something like that

@bkkinneas: I also currently run adamant (with CB) as it gives it a lot more power, but jolly could be useful, so why not breed both?

EDIT: yeah, the basic CH of normal moves is 6.25% or 1/16

Two Starmies, both have equal EVs and IVs.

One has a Neutral Nature with a Choice Scarf, one is Timid with no Choice Scarf.

Which will be faster once they both hit Level 100?
