Nationwide Gamestop Pokemon Tournament Discussion Thread

Some Gamestops nationwide will be hosting D/P tournaments through Pokemon Battle Revolution on July 21, 2007. The above picture is an instore flyer that was being handed out. Most of them are holding the tournament at 2:00 PM.

This was announced very recently, which would be the reason for so little information being known about it. It was just added to the main website.

They added the info to the official tournament site today.

1st Prize: PBR Game and Poketopia T-Shirt
2nd Prize: Poketopia T-Shirt
3rd Prize/Participant Prize: Pokemon D/P Bookmarks (this makes me laugh since it's the day Harry Potter comes out)

That site also has the official list of hosting locations.

The <b>Nintendo</b> rules for the tournament is doubles battle in PBR, Pokemon 1-490. The thing is, Gamestop is allowed to make their own rules. My Gamestop, since we have alot of employees that play, is having regular 6v6 with Item Clause, Uber ban, Evasion ban, OHKO ban, etc. Standard stuff. A Gamestop down the street from me is using the Nintendo rules.

I just suggest that you call Gamestop ahead of time, check out the rules, and make sure you register. Either way, this tourney should be easy PBR. :P

I would compete if I didn't have to read a new harry Potter book.

Anyways, do you know if it's Single or double?
 
There's a Gamestop where I'm staying so I might as well attend. I'm guessing Ubers are allowed? I was going to raise an ubers team anyway...
 
Do they really want a tournament filled with kids to have some guy come in and yell out SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE PAGE 606 or something to that effect?

That'd be funny as hell. Plus if it's filled with kids, you're just fighting the same ubers. And if you go to this forum and you lose to one of them, well...you shouldn't lose to them :E
 
I'd try and find a gamestop that's actually doing this for some newbie sweeping fun but barring the possibility there is a downpour that day I have to work :/
 
I WOULD go to this, but of course I'm on vacation that day! I'm not even sure if my local gamestop would be participating, altough I know that one of the employees there likes pokemon, or at least used to.
 
I'm hoping for the rules....

(Yeah, I wanna use my Shiny Azelf for standard play, or ubers for uber play, although I'm very much doubting on the Shiny Azelf thingy)
 
Bad choice for a day, almost everyone will be reading HP. Or maybe good choice? Makes organizing a lot easier.
 
They don't even have it in their Tourney section on their website. This is probably some really small scale thing, that ony a few GameStops are going to have. I'll still check mine out, though, just to make sure.

Oh hell yes. I'm just praying there's a Gamestop near me. Need more rules details ASAP, but I'll make many different teams for anything I come across if we don't get any information.
 
Oh I'd love this, I really hope my local Gamestop hosts one, as I live about 5 minutes away. Plus, 30 minutes in either direction will get me to 2 more.
 
Question, is this available in Canada...? I don't think we have Gamestop but there's EB Games which is exactly the same. If not, that's pretty shitty.
 
There are two Gamestops in Poughkeepsie, NY, which I will be calling tomorrow to find out if they are having the tournament and, if so, get more information about the ruleset. Does anyone live near Poughkeepsie, NY? (I'm 45 minutes out). If so, I'd love to have a little meet-up.

Also EB games is the same company as Gamestop? I think there's an EB Games in the Kingston mall, I'd better check them out too.

I probably won't, I have to work that day... although if we all ended up going to the same location I might accidentally come down with the flu the night before.

Either of you know any locations that are actually running this?
 
I somehow doubt this will be at EB Games in Canada, nobody bothers to do this sort of thing with us :( I haven't heard anything at all at my store, but that's not a definate no. Also, there was a thread from a "Gamestop Employee" in Serebii's Battle Revolution forum on this. Take that as you will.
