SpD Ferro might switch in on Greninja, but none of those other pokemon have any business switching into a hydropump.

No, but that doesn't mean it's not still nice to have when it comes to eliminating them. You could probably switch greninja into Skarm almost all the time and get rid of it without having to worry about hydro pump misses, and I bet a mega scizor could switch into Greninja. (Just a guess... I really have no idea lol)
EDIT- nevermind, hydro pump 2HKOs mega scizor. So really, it's only useful to have HP Fire for Ferro and to not risk Hydro Pump misses.

Yeah but because of protean, greninja doesnt really need to switch out immediately. With the defensive type change, spD Ferro cant do much back. Granted greninja is frail as he'll, but if you need to remove ferro at all costs (if youre running a megasaur for instance) its a good lure who can do serious damage

Mmmh I don't really seem to encounter much more shinies just from my experience. I have tried it with horde pokemon where I got two shinies in two days after encountering for several hours. I also tried it in fs. My record is 3 shinies in one day (after shiny charm). But that doesn't mean anything since I also once got 3 shinies in one day without shiny charm. Regarding wild encountered shinies I don't have any experience since I don't want to do several thousand encounters...

You have to decide if it's worth it for you to complete the dex. Although your shiny chances are increased you still have to have a lot of luck^^

The odds for shinies are ridiculous. Even the masuda method has a low success rate :S
