Terrakion @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat

Terrakion resists both of Houndoom's STABs and can switch in with relative ease. In return Terrakion can OHKO Houndoom with Close Combat. Terrakion also gets an attack boost when switched in Dark Pulse.

252 SpA Mega Houndoom Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Terrakion: 103-122 (31.8 - 37.7%) -- 92.7% chance to 3HKO
252 Atk Terrakion Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Houndoom: 422-500 (145 - 171.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Bro I already reserved terrak...

Has Rotom-W been done? If not i'd like to reserve it!
Rotom-W is a really shaky check to mega houndoom because hydro pump doesn't net a guaranteed OHKO, without prior damage.
0 SpA Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Houndoom: 270-320 (92.7 - 109.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

Rotom-W is a really shaky check to mega houndoom because hydro pump doesn't net a guaranteed OHKO, without prior damage.
0 SpA Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Houndoom: 270-320 (92.7 - 109.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

Using the OU standard set it is, as calc shown below:

+2 252 SpA Mega Houndoom Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Rotom-W: 259-306 (85.1 - 100.6%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

Using a Calm Rotom-W with SpDef Investment, the calcs change a bit:

252 SpA Mega Houndoom Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Rotom-W: 96-114 (31.5 - 37.5%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 SpA Mega Houndoom Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Rotom-W: 190-225 (62.5 - 74%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

So Mega Houndoom would have had to have performed Nasty Plot prior to switch in or else Rotom-W can kill it in 1-2 turns with Hydro Pump.

0 SpA Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Houndoom: 270-320 (92.7 - 109.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

EDIT: Edited out Scald because I derped and forgot Rotom-W can't have it T-T. Still can be a check, shaky as it is

Entei @ Choice Band
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sacred Fire
- Extreme Speed
- Stone Edge
- Bulldoze

Entei can easily switch into all of Houndoom's moves (except +2 Dark Pulse, which 1HKOs) and threaten a 1HKO with Stone-Edge (or Bulldoze pre-mega) or a 2HKO with everything else. Adamant nature is only chosen because other natures are illegal with ExtremeSpeed.

Offensive Calcs:
252+ Atk Choice Band Entei Sacred Fire vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Mega Houndoom: 135-159 (44.8 - 52.8%) -- 23.8% chance to 2HKO

Status: Check

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Hyper Voice
- Fire Blast
- Roost

Mega Altaria can come in on any of Mega Houndoom's attack and OHKO it with STAB Draco Meteor or Hyper Voice if Stealth Rock is up. Hyper Voice is the go-to STAB which can be spammed because of Pixilate and the good coverage of Fairy type attacks. Fire Blast is used to OHKO Ferrothorn and heavily damage Skarmory who are expecting the DDD Mega Altaria set while Draco Meteor is a secondary STAB move to hit things hard. Roost allows Mega Altaria to heal up and does its job better.

Calculations:
216 SpA Mega Houndoom Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Altaria: 89-105 (30.5 - 36%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Mega Altaria Draco Meteor vs. 40 HP / 0 SpD Mega Houndoom: 226-267 (75 - 88.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Pixilate Mega Altaria Hyper Voice vs. 40 HP / 0 SpD Mega Houndoom: 204-241 (67.7 - 80%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Assault Vest would work much better, as it will give you much more specially defensive bulk, and you can always beat Houndoom with SE + Extreme Speed, while CB Entei loses if it switch into both Nasty Plot and Dark Pulse, and it takes an hard hit from Fire Blast too.

Anyways,

Clefable (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Heal Bell

I guess that physically defensive unaware Clefable is much better than specially defensive ones in OU, but oh well the best counters / checks were already posted so I'm gonna post it. I don't think there is too much to say, Unaware ignores Nasty Plot boosts and thanks to its SDef investiment, Clefable beats Houndoom unless you are just very very unlucky with CHs and flinches. In general, Unaware SDef Clefable helps you a bit more against Keldeo, Nasty Plot Thundurus, Manectric and Manaphy than Phy def variants, even if they are much more consistent overall.

Some calcs:

252 SpA Mega Houndoom Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Clefable: 147-174 (37.3 - 44.1%) -- 100% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Houndoom: 108-127 (37.1 - 43.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Is anyone writing up the bulky Dragonite set (216 HP / 64 Atk / 228 SpD Adamant) ? I feel it's a good choice although it hates Will-O-Wisp but if Mega Houndoom doesn't carry that, Dark Pulse deals around 15 - 16 % (with Multiscale) and Earthquake + Extremespeed easily KOes Mega Houndoom.

EDIT: Since nobody is writing this, might as well take it up.

Name : Dragonite
Status: Check

Dragonite @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 216 HP / 64 Atk / 228 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Roost
- Dragon Claw
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake

As stated above, Dragonite only fears Will-O-Wisp from Mega Houndoom and can Earthquake and Extremespeed it for the kill. Roost allows Dragonite to regain health and preserve Multiscale while Dragon Claw is for STAB.

Calculations:
216 SpA Mega Houndoom Dark Pulse vs. 216 HP / 228 SpD Multiscale Dragonite: 54-64 (14.3 - 16.9%) -- possible 9HKO after Leftovers recovery
64+ Atk Dragonite Earthquake vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Mega Houndoom: 234-276 (77.7 - 91.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Reserving Physically Defensive Rotom-W

Name: Rotom-W
Status: Check

Rotom-Wash @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Rest

Rotom-W avoids the 2HKO from any of Landorus-T's moves (except Explosion but nobody can Explode twice) and can threaten a OHKO with STAB Hydro Pump. Volt Switch is a secondary STAB move and can be used to grab momentum. Will-O-Wisp allows Rotom-W to threaten physical attackers such as Mega Metagross and Mega Gallade. Finally, Rest, when used with Chesto Berry, allows Rotom-W to have a means of recovery and allows it to check Landorus-T and Bird Spam better.

Calculations:
252 Atk Landorus-T Superpower vs. 248 HP / 216+ Def Rotom-W: 101-119 (33.3 - 39.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Chesnaught @ Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Spiky Shield
- Leech Seed
- Drain Punch
- Spikes / Wood Hammer

Chesnaught is a counter to Scarf Landorus-T. It resists most of Lando-T's coverage moves, as well as STAB Earthquake. It also doesn't take much from Explosion. Wood Hammer has a chance to 2HKO, but Chesnaught can reliably beat it without Wood Hammer as well. This can be done through using a combination Leech Seed, Spiky Shield, and Drain Punch. All that passive recovery wears Landorus down slowly while also giving Chesaught the health back to repeatedly take any move. Sometimes Spikes might be more useful to a team than Wood Hammer, so that is why it is slashed on the set with Wood Hammer.

252 Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Chesnaught: 55-66 (14.4 - 17.3%) -- possible 9HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Landorus-T Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Chesnaught: 37-44 (9.7 - 11.5%) -- possibly the worst move ever

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Atk / 176 SpD
Impish Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off/U-turn
- Roost
- Swords Dance

Bulky SD Mega Scizor is a great check to Landorus-T thanks to its amazing base Defense stat and typing. It can Knock Off Landorus-T's Choice Scarf to cripple it, or set up in its face and KO it with BP/Knock Off. Running Max Defense is also an option on this set, if taking physical hits is the main priority.

252 Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0+ Def Mega Scizor: 121-144 (35.2 - 41.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Landorus-T U-turn vs. 248 HP / 0+ Def Mega Scizor: 28-33 (8.1 - 9.6%) -- possibly the worst move ever

Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spd
Impish Nature
-Stealth Rock
-U-turn
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge / Knock Off

Landorus-T is one of the best checks to Landorus-T thanks to Intimidate + the defensive investment. It takes nothing from any of Scarf Land's moves and can proceed to: A-set up rocks. B-Wear down with Stone Edge / Knock Off; and C. U-turn out for momentum.

-1 252 Atk Landorus-T Stone Edge vs. 240 HP / 252+ Def Landorus-T: 62-73 (16.3 - 19.2%) -- possible 7HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

-1 252 Atk Landorus-T Explosion vs. 240 HP / 252+ Def Landorus-T: 152-179 (40.1 - 47.2%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Klefki @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magnet Rise
- Spikes
- Thunder Wave
- Foul Play

Klefki is obviously not a counter to Landorus-T, as it can't switch into Earthquake, but if it gets off a Prankster Magnet Rise, and Landorus-T unwisely locks itself into Earthquake, then it will either be Spikes fodder, 3HKOed by Foul Play, or a free Thunder Wave if Landorus-T switches out. Explosion only does 50 - 58.8%, and the next strongest move, Superpower does 48.1 - 56.9%, but the attack and defense drops leave Landorus-T not just vulnerable to revenge killing, but also as a free setup opportunity, particularly for a teammate like Rock Polish Mega Diancie. Landorus-T is unlikely to go for other moves, as Stone Edge is a 5HKO, and Knock Off is a 7HKO, so unless Klefki is at an extremely low amount of health, it will beat Scarfed Landorus-T in a 1v1 scenario. Scarf Landorus-T is fairly commonly an offensive or balanced team's sole Thunder Wave immunity, so even if Landorus-T U-Turns out, Klefki can at the very least get off a Thunder Wave or a Spike on the following turn, ensuring that the opponent doesn't generate free momentum from the U-Turn.

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn / Knock Off
- Taunt / Toxic
- Stealth Rock / Substitute

The common defensive Gliscor set shrugs off any hit from Scarf Landorus-T bar Explosion which does 51.7 - 61%. Once Toxic Orb activates, Gliscor can freely switch into almost any Landorus-T set and take advantage of the free turn it gets by setting up rocks, preserving momentum with U-Turn, or begin stalling with Sub/Toxic/Taunt. You can also predict a U-Turn (or any move other than Knock Off) and use it as an opportunity to switch in Gliscor and have Toxic Orb activate, but the threat of switching into Knock Off is always something to consider.

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold/Relaxed Nature
- Scald
- Earth Power/Earthquake
- Recover
- Ice Beam/Toxic

So, there's an underrated threat in physically defensive Gastrodon. It can easily eat up any move Lando-T can go for (except Explosion and crit EQ), taking 45% at max roll from Earthquake. Once in, Gastrodon can begin recovering any damage and stalling the Landorus out, or fire off a Scald or a Toxic, none of which are enjoyable for Lando-T as well as any possible switch-ins (except Trace users switching into Scald, but that's not relevant for the Lando v Gastro situation).

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet

EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Gyro Ball
aeXASqT.png

Lando uses U-Turn you switch to Ferrothorn and it loses ~29% of its health. Earthquake is a 3HKO at best while Knock Off does 23% initially then does 16% which is about what U-Turn does. You can switch in to most moves and leech seed it, get rocks up, and stall it dead. Superpower does:
252 Atk Landorus-T Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 170-200 (48.2 - 56.8%) -- 91.8% chance to 2HKO
-1 252 Atk Landorus-T Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 112-134 (31.8 - 38%) -- 94% chance to 3HKO
-2 252 Atk Landorus-T Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 86-102 (24.4 - 28.9%) -- 99.1% chance to 4HKO

Leech seed heals you for 11% each turn so unless he hits max roll all 3 times you can actually stall Superpower as well. Not to mention if he does do so it loses 87.5% of its health.
