Battle Spot - Simple Questions and Answers

So...I have an Adamant 252 HP 252 Attack Tyranitar and an exact copy of that Tyranitar without Pursuit that I used for Battle Maison. I'm not really playing Battle Maison anymore so I'm wondering if anyone has an idea of a unique set I can put on this guy? I have two, so I might as well. I'm thinking some sort of Stealth Rock support set, but would Adamant really be an okay nature for that?

After the Battle of Hoenn Competition is now over and the results are computed: when or how do I get my participation price (i.e. the HA Tyrunt)?

The distribution won't be until February 17th. Sites like Serebii will give information on how to obtain it so that you don't have to keep looking at the global link site!

How the **** did Hammer Arm "fail" during that last turn?

Are you sure you didn't press Hammer Arm on your (dead) teammate? I just tested on a mock battle and it says "but it failed" if I press ep of heatran to attack my dead teammate even if my opponent has two 'mons on the field.

I'm pretty sure I didn't target my teammate. I might have targeted the Bisharp's dead teammate, but I always thought that it doesn't make a difference in a 1vs1 situation...

Don't know then, if you happened to target your dead teammate (even if he/she's dead since a long time) the message "But it failed" appears, so, either you missclicked or it really is a bug.
Either way sorry for the battle, this kind of things are depressing, especially if you plan to raise your score on the BS Ladder.

Could just re-EV it and make it a mega Dragon Dance spread. Jolly is probably better but I'm not sure on what exactly you miss out on out-speeding. The max HP + Attack spread could work as an Assault Vest lead with Stealth Rock if you wanted I suck

Can't use Stealth Rocks with an Assault Vest, can you?

Nope.

I just don't want to waste a 5IV EV-trained Tyranitar I have already put effort into getting. It doesn't have Dragon Dance unfortunately, since that's an egg move.

I was thinking some sort of support set with Stealth Rock and Smooth Rock as an item for the long sandstorm. Not sure if Adamant nature is the best for it but I can make it work.

Does it have Pursuit? I cant think of anything other than stealth rock lead and crunch and Stone edge/ rock slide i guess you could add thunder wave. I really dont have any ideas other than DD sets.

Unfortunately I don't have Pursuit, plus my other Tyranitar is using Pursuit anyway and I want to make this one a different set. Thunder Wave is a really good idea though, I'm gonna use that, thanks!

No problem I guess you could run earthquake or rock tomb x) This seems like a Stealth Rock Sash Chomp lead almost x)

I'm kinda new around here and want to get more into the more serious side of pokemon battling but I noticed that the 101 program has no tutors for battle spot formats (except vgc I guess). Is this by design ?

Hi Ravhin, it's definitely not on purpose, we're just lacking in that department. Our community isn't so large yet (although I'd certainly say we're on our way as of late) so our main focus is on that at the moment. We don't really have any plans for tutoring or anyone who is really interested in doing it.

If you have any specific questions you can feel free to ask it here or in any of the various threads, and if you need help with a team you can steal a team from the Sample Teams Thread or post your own team in the teambuilding thread for tips.

I was just wondering how things stand :) . I'll definitely be "stealing" a team from the samples to start to get a feel of how things work in the simulator.

Cheers!

Tagging mhykah since he actually uses it

I don't think it's a hugely viable team archetype, since rain only lasts 5 turns (8 if you can spare the item slot for the Damp Rock), and there's already a fair amount Sun (Char-Y) and Sand (Ttar) that it's probably going to get cancelled anyway. There are a few cool abusers though like Mega Swampert and CritDra, but they both rely on the Rain being up, and if it doesn't stay up then they don't work. I think it works best when you don't dedicate your team to it, but instead the merely benefit from its presence. Stuff like Scizor and Ferrothorn are both already good in their own right, but adding Rain makes them even better. The problem with Politoad is that people know exactly what it's going to do when they see it in team preview, which makes you somewhat predictable

edit: this is for singles btw. I haven't tested it extensively in doubles or anything so I can't comment. I think it would be kinda cool in rotations where it's activated of Politoad is first out, and you can immediately rotate to your Swift Swimmer or whatever. The inability to reliably switch to restart it is a bit if a letdown but you could always just use Rain Dance

From the official website ratings, Politoed is ninth most used in Triples BattleSpot, so it's definitely viable there. (100% of them are using Drizzle, so you know this isn't a fluke)

Well I've been thinking about it a lot recently. Rotations definitely figured in my thinking and being prominent in Triples is not complete surprise either.

I may have to try this.

a0161613 Rain is fun to play in Singles and still good! That said, you can't expect to bring a full rain team and hit the top of the ladder. When playing rain in BSpot, there are a lot of threats that can still overrun Mega Swampert.

My tip is to not think of Rain as your sole win condition. Rain should be treated as a little boost which might help Kingdra/MSwampert/Scizor etc. As for me, I found that adding a second Mega helps a lot so that I'm not overly reliant on Rain. Namely a mega that deals with things that Swampert can't. There may be other ways around this though, such as ensuring that you have answers to Swampert checks. Again, you'd build a team not to focus on rain entirely but one that can thrive without rain too.

At the start of my team building I had both Swampert and Kingdra and ran into the problem of over-commiting to rain sweepers. Weather teams like everything else needs to be flexible!

If you don't have a team feel free to steal mine and tweak it to your liking! To adapt to the meta I've swapped Salamence for Mega Manectric but there are a lot of ways that you could make it better!
