General Introduce yourself!

Hi Zacharytrumpeter!
Nice to meet you! I was a little late in the timeline of the games, only getting into the franchise with Emerald two or three years after its release. You can get help with teambuilding with two steps. First, you can PM a mentor to get help improving your skills. Second, make a team, or if you already have one, visit the RMT section of the forums to get other users to help you improve it. I don't really delve too deep into teambuilding; I just make sure I have good coverage and sets, and I play like that. Anyway, have a good time, and good luck!
Seems like you are a busy guy here! :P

Thanks QueBien, I'll do that. Should I get a team together and have specific questions for a mentor, or just look for some team building mentoring that's pretty general?

Hi I'm breloom. I've been a lurker for over a year and I just recently got involved with the forums when I made an RMT a few months ago. I play a lot of ou and occasionally mess around with other tiers. I'm a junior in high school and I've been playing pokemon since I was like seven, although I just got involved with the competitive scene in the late b2w2 era. I play the TCG more than I do the video game, but I do like playing on showdown when I'm not playing the TCG or league of legends. Really looking forward to getting more involved as life slows down a little.

Hello, I'm Craynak Zero but you can just call me Craynak (but not Zero)
I'm 26 have been a lover of Pokemon since I first saw it some 16 years ago. I started with the Anime, played a little bit with the TCG, then had a few years hiatus. Years later, I finally got my first Pokemon game: Pokemon Gold. Since then, I have had every main series Pokemon game at some point except for LeafGreen. If there was anything I could complain about, it would be the fact that I'm pretty much alone. I know next to no one who also plays and those few I do; they never have time to do anything Pokemon-related with me. I'm hoping that'll change soon.

Lastly, I do love pretty much everything about Pokemon, but I prefer to stick with the main series games. The TCG, Mystery Dungeon games, and even the Anime are fun in their own way (to me), I just prefer the main games.

You don't have to have anything to ask a mentor for help. After all, a mentor will give you some advice with strategies, and usually help you build a team from the first Pokemon up. However, if you already have a team, you can get a mentor to help you improve it and help you implement some tactics, but you can also skip over to the RMT subforum, and get it improved by other Smogon users. :)

Hi Breloom tho!
Have you visited the "OverUsed" Showdown room and Smogon subforum? You can learn a lot from users there. I myself have never played the TCG. :/ You play league? LOL! Anyways, if you have any questions, check out the "Have a Question? Ask it Here!" thread. Have fun!

Hiya Craynak0!
I've been playing since Emerald but have never owned the game. :[ However, Emerald was the game that got me introduced to Pokemon and eventually resulted in my finding of Showdown. Luckily, you don't have to have anything in-game to battle in Showdown, but if you do want to battle/trade in-game, check out the "Wi-Fi" subforum here at Smogon. Have a good time!

Hi, my name is Grownmanproblems and I want to be a Pokemon master! But really, I've used Smogon for about two years and now I want to contribute. I look forward to getting to know you guys and having discussions about the ins and outs of battling/ team building.

Hi Grownmanproblems!
Becoming a Pokemon master is one of my side-goals of being the very best! Where would you like to start contributing? If you have any questions, ask here for now or check out the Questions threads. Have fun!

Hello, I'm TheGoldenGuy. I've been using smogon for about a year, but only started to get more into competitive battling recently. Looking forward to learning more about battling/team building and joining the community!

Hi TheGoldenGuy!
I was the opposite of you in that matter. I used Showdown for about a year or so before I got involved with Smogon. :p You can PM a mentor here to get some teambuilding help. Otherwise, have a good time!

Yeah, I lurk around the ou forum and PS room occasionally, there definitely is a lot to learn from them. Thanks for the welcome!

I have tried showdown more then once, but it just doesn't have the same feel as the real games. R/S/E were just off to me back in the day. I just couldn't get into them. It took me a little more then a year after it was released to get Diamond. Lastly, the Wi-fi subforum sounds like an excellent place for me. However, I have also thought about trying to contribute in someway. As much as I play, I also analyze EVERYTHING I can find. Lately, I've had thoughts to trying a "Bizaro" format were I take a Pokemon (say Machamp) and I try the total opposite of their intended purpose, just for the lolz. Is there anything like that here on smogan?

Where would you like to start contributing? As for a "Bizarro" format, I'm not sure if there is anything official here at Smogon. However, many of us do enjoy gimmicks; we sometimes go into official tiers or challenges from other users with gimmick teams for the lolz. You can do that, too, but there is no official section for that if I recall correctly.

I honestly don't know where I should start trying to contributing. I'm not really a competitive battler, tried that before and always got too stressed out. Seeing as it is open to the public, I've recently put my two cents in a CAP thread. I think, maybe, I could try to write for The Smog, but I don't really know how such a process works or even if I would get to choose my own topics (very important to me).

Question though, if a lot of people enjoy gimmick teams, why isn't there an official gimmick league or something to that effect? Just the thought of a special attacking Machamp facing off against a physically attack mega alakazam is hilarious. XD

Hello guys! harri2000 here! I started playing Pokémon in this actual gen (XY), and now i'm playing the competitive ^^
I'm very new in the competitive scenario, you know, most of my frens who plays are adults, and i'm 15 lol
Really like to play Smogon rules, and i'm here to learn more! o/

You can talk to Spydreigon to get involved as a writer with The Smog. Yes, you can choose your own topics, so long as they are within the regulations. Spydreigon can give you more information on the rest of the process. As for the "gimmick league", it's because only sometimes people use gimmicks, just for fun. Making a gimmick tier wouldn't really make it as fun as it is, I guess. Good luck with The Smog!

Hi harri2000!
I also started playing Pokemon (competitively) this generation. I started playing Pokemon in general a little while after Generation 3, though. Check out our Battling 101 (Tutoring Program) for some great advice on competitive battling. Have a good time!

Alright. Introduction thread. I never liked introduction threads, but they have their purpose. Name's Emerald Manectric. Bit long, so I don't care if you want to call me Emerald, Manectric, or whatever. In some places(But not on Smogon or Pokemon Showdown) I go by the name Heric, just for anyone who might notice. I really don't know what else to say. I play Omega Ruby, and have owned (and cleared, except for generation 2) at least one game in every generation so far. Long time Pokemon player, known of Smogon for a while now, but this is the second day visiting the site, and the first day actually posting on the forums.

For those who feel like not reading my post, let me sum it up: Hi.

Hello! I'm Sanic and I've come here to get back into Pokemon. For a while, I've been playing Smash, Kirby, and Acnl. I'm glad to be here and I hope I can make a lot of friends and help a lot of people!

I'm familiar with Smash and Kirby, played both. I've never heard of Acnl, and can't think of what it would stand for. Anyways, nice to meet you, Sanic.

Hi, I'm new to the forums but a bit familiar with pokemon. I still need help with my teambuilding and all that such.

I usually use crap accounts in Showdown since I make so many attempts at teams that don't work that swell :p.

I don't think that will come in 'gimmick' because gimmick means something which works exceptionally well, but only in certain scenarios, and you require certain tricks to make that work. Just for example, having a Scolipede hold a mental herb, with Iron Defense and baton pass to a Calm Mind + Stored Power Espeon. This trick works sometimes, but in most of the cases it won't. That's what we call gimmick. I clearly don't see any instance where a special Machamp will go on a sweep. That's more of a troll league than gimmick league.

You know what? All the anime heroes are aged 15 too, so you should enjoy that (Ash, though, isn't a hero -_-)

Hey 2133!
PM a mentor or check out our Tutoring Program for some teambuilding help, along with some other valuable skills. Otherwise, have a great time finding your place here at the forums!

Also, please be sure to give us your feedback when you feel settled in. Thanks!

I am a bagel that has somehow managed to get a hold of anything and everything pokemon. You may call me Bagel is Friend, Mr. Bagel, Your Bagel Overlord, or Brix. That last one is the most popular. I have played Showdown for a while but haven't started being good until recently. I play OU, RU, and Balanced Hackmons. Xatu is my spirit pokemon. I have played every generation except the first (gasp!). Pearl was my first pokemon game, but Sapphire remains my favorite. I am currently in the middle of an ORAS wonder lock run. I like most of Nintendo, and I eat a lot of bagels. I joined this site to hopefully be better at pokemon. But for now, adieu!

Hey Bagel is Friend!
I'm feeling a bit hungry right now. >:) You play BH? Stop by the Other Metas room sometime! :o I have played every generation but the first two (double gasp!). My favorite game is Emerald, and it also was my first. Nintendo is a great company most of the time, but I like Xbox games, too (but sometimes, I can't stand Microsoft -_-). Have a good time here, and I'll see you around!

I'm pretty sure Ash is 10, right? Not sure what that makes the others though.

What's your favorite bagel? I'm a fan of "plain" and everything, although I dislike the bad breath after the latter. Welcome to Smogon!
