About Battling 101:

The player has the right to fight the tutor in at most 3 battles (singles or doubles), being two 2vs2 and one 3vs3. In those battles the player can use either rentals, aka, copies of pokemon owned by registered players, or his own mons. The Tutor should respond with either rentals or pokemon of his own that match the level of the ones used by the player.

The battle will play out normally, with the tutor playing to win. During the match, the tutor should give tips on moves and what-not, but only after the player orders. Comment on why a certain strategy you/they used went right/wrong and why you/they won/lost the battle.

The Pupil isn't obligated to use all 3 battles, or to use them before or after registering. They can register their team and use the 3 battles to pratice with them. Or they can use the 3 battle solely to try on stuff. Or they can test with 2 matches, register a team and then use the last one as a final test. Or any other way that seems fit.

While sleep at least pays off, by trading an action for an action, confusion is very unreliable, so I don't recommend going that route, even though there were a gym leader that used those strategies to some success. Still, when you are ordering last you are at an advantage point and it is best to try and abuse it either than just using an action to get rid of an action. Gastly could win the damage race (deal more damage and possibly poison) by simply spamming sludge bomb. Confusion and sleep are stall tactics, better used when you are on a disadvantage point (either ordering first or on a terrible matchup) or when Perish song is up. On this situation I would either spam sludge bomb or use perish song and then stall.

So tips:
- Until you have an amazing grasp at this, I suggest you refrain from ever using combos while ordering first. They are very easy to avoid and the punishment for you is very considerable.
- Adding to above: if combos ordering first are bad, combos ordering first without subs to support them are pretty much forbidden.

Try your hand at subs when you can.

Uh...

Again: don't use combos ordering first. Also Extremespeed is weird. Yes you don't have many other options (barring eq), but at least metal claw can increase your attack (and is cheaper) and Blaze Kick can burn and has better crit. Extremespeed gives you in this battle nothing important. Keep it in mind.

Good part: at least you have guts to counterswitch. That is good.

Combos can be enticing, but, more often than not, just using that move twice deals similar damage. And is much much cheaper. This is one of those cases, even though Double Earthquake only deals like 1 less hp of damage. Still, it costs 18 vs 31.5 from the combo.
