What can you do about ghosting, realistically? Screenshare? You can easily have another monitor / computer / phone next to you to use for ghosting.
This whole tournament scene is really dumb and arbitrary, since there's NO WAY for ghosters or ghostees (?) to get caught if they do it properly. You really have to rely on "honor", which gets easily set aside when a contestant has winning and only winning on his mind.
Integrity of the tournament is gone bla bla bla, how was there any integrity to begin with? Ghosting has ALWAYS happened, this is just one of the first times people take responsibility for it.
As for consequences; permanent ban? The people involved could just continue to ghost with no further consequences. Temporary ban? Seems kinda light of a punishment for cheating in major tournaments.
Smogon lacks:
1) The tools to monitor fair play
2) The tools to properly punish for cheating
And there's realistically nothing you can do to fix it. So called ladder heroes get constantly told that ladder means nothing and tournaments are the place to prove your worth; how is that any true in the lights of these facts? You could realistically be as bad as me and succeed in major tournaments with a little help from your friends with no consequences to any of the participants.
Yes, I'm nobody, yes I'm bad, don't let that direct you away from these facts: tournaments are a joke from a competitive standpoint.
