I wake up in the morning and... new video, which means this thread receives a deluge of posts! Time for another opinions dump.
New Pokemon
Type: Null
This is... really weird. I thought that they were revealing a Pokemon that was typeless, until it was shown to be Normal-type and be
named Type: Null. It's species is the Synthetic Pokemon, and it actually does look like it was pieced together from other mons. (The tail is Gyarados, the back legs look sort of Zygarde-ish, the front ones are a Bird or Dragon, and the axe on its head reminds me of Terrakion. I think I also see a bit of Gardevoir in the neck ruff.) But seriously, why couldn't whoever created it give it a more... unique name? Or at least make it sound like a Pokemon? Given that its lore explicitly states that it was created to match the power of Legendaries so that it (or its creators) could complete a certain mission, it's pretty clear that Null will be a big plot point. Also, when I catch it, I'm totally naming it "NullPtrExptn".
Jangmo-o
Man, GF is really going all out with the weird names, aren't they? You've got Tapu Koko, Type: Null, and now this. How do you even pronouce the "o" on the end? I gotta say, though, it is absolutely adorable. I also think it's the most dragon-like of all the Dragon-types that have been revealed. I actually really love the eyes in particular because they convey that dragon-like "I'm better than you" expression, even if that contradicts the flavour text a bit. I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to say that this guy is the first stage of Gen VII's pseudo legendary. Battle-wise, being given 2 abilities that block certain kinds of moves definitely suggests to me that Jangmo-o is going to end up as a tank or a wall.
Alolan Raticate
Now, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. After all, it says that Alolan Rattata is a very picky eater, only eating things that are fresh. Why, then, is Raticate-A so fat? *re-reads flavour text* Ah, so their diet is heavier in calories than normal Raticate. But... don't normal Raticate also frequent urban areas? And aren't there still undeveloped parts of Alola? Oh well, I guess that's what you get for trying to make sense of the flavour text in Pokemon. As far as stats go, the added fat is a pretty clear indicator of a drop in speed but an increase in HP and defenses. Since GF is starting to actually care about VGC, I'll be interested in how they make Raticate-A viable.
UB-01
The hell is this... thing? Aside from looking like a cross between Lillie and Jelonzo from Splatoon, it honestly doesn't look that threatening. It's a jellyfish composed of a glass-like substance, so it would have a multitude of ways to harm people and Pokemon as the flavour text suggests. Y'know, just like... every other Pokemon in existence? When you live in a world with dinosaurs that knock down mountains and haunted lamps that burn people's souls (I'll also link
this Smog article), a glass jellyfish is kind of... boring. Not only that, but it's explicitly stated to have no obvious will or emotions, which means it's not actually evil. I don't think we can even call it a Pokemon, which means that, sadly, the main series is following the trend of the recent Mystery Dungeon games and having non-Pokemon bosses. It just seems... wrong.
All in all, I honestly think that GF is going overboard with new concepts this gen. You have Z-moves, Alola formes, ultra beasts... any one of these on its own would be fine, but I'm just worried that the core Pokemon game will get buried in all the gimmicks.
Aether Foundation
A group of people seeking to make the world beautiful. Headquarters on an island they built themselves. They even have their own grunts. Gee, I wonder who the real bad guys are? I think that Team Skull being named that is no coincidence: they'll play a part similar to the Team Skull in PMD2 and be the generic baddies in the early-to-midgame. Meanwhile, the Aether Foundation is a parallel to Dusknoir: They lead you on to be good guys at first, but then one of two things will happen: Either they suddenly turn on you and announce their true plans (see: Dusknoir, Ghetsis), or they invite you to their base (Totally not evil team gotta help the player character, right?) where you accidentally discover that they're actually evil and genetically manipulating a race of Superpokemon beyond what IV breeding is capable of.
Pokefinder
*reading Serebii* huh, you look for Zygarde's cells with a cube... with the Pokefinder you take pictures of Pokemon... huh that's cool I guess- wait, what did that say?
"With the Pokefinder you can take pictures of Pokemon"
