They probably did the maintenance to account for the amount of people wanting to download the demo today/tomorrow.
I'd rather see them reduce the fully paralyzed chance/remove it at all, than removing the speed limiting part.

This also means Hakamo-o is faster than Pikachu given as to how it outspeed the same Greninja, how cool.
I will forgive them for nerfing the skillful part of paralysis if they did this, fug off knock off.

Please try and verify information before speculating about its competitive applications!
A nerf to paralysis is exciting, but at the moment, it's a single account that might have just been a use of Water Shuriken and people are already mad / excited about the change. Exciting misinformation spreads like wildfire so please try and stop it from spreading.
It's getting late here and my internet is getting unruly, so please try and ask for extra evidence or explanation before jumping to discussion.
Edit: At the time of making this post, more evidence about the change being real has surfaced. Good! Try and catalog all you can find before going nuts with discussion.

I'm not sure if this can be posted here, so I'm putting it in spoiler tags. Below some info from data miners:
- OmegaDonut has confirmed thar Alola forms appear to be Gen I Pokémon only and that there's 2 more.
- Move descriptions appear to be left intact.
- Other info such as base stats was scrubbed.
That's a shame. There were a lot of opportunities for cool Alolan forms for Pokemon from later generations. I especially would've seen something like the fan-made Water/Steel leiomano tiki mask Aegislash from a while ago
