    ya its down. maybe DDoS and.... There you put in the server location not the client location, therefore you put in sim.smogon.com not play.pokemonshowdown.com

    Hmm maybe its just a slow internet connection, check if you computer has any torrents or something running in background

    Yes it is, but just check weather you have changed it by mistake, if not its just the server is overloaded
