So what does the Teal Mask hold item in the game do?

Thanks! Is there a more complete concise list of changes? Also, What's the difference between No Mask Ogrepon and Teal Mask Ogrepon?

Maybe someone already asked this, but does Ogerpon needs to hold the teal mask to get the defiant grass form? And, if so, what happens if it isn't holding an item?
