How do you pick a version?

For myself, my own choice has usually been determined by what the people I know have purchased themselves. A couple of friends introduced me to the series back in Gen 1. They had Red & Yellow, so I purchased Blue. When one of them later purchased Silver (the other held out for Crystal) I got...

Do you prefer newer or older games?

Been a while since I last posted, but I definitely prefer Gen 1 most of all, while Pokemon Crystal of Gen 2 was also a worthy game. Long story short, I am a fan of the original Game Boy generations of the games, rather than the Advance/DS/3DS sets. I've had most of the series so far - Red...

Considering Netbattle was originally coded for Gen2 only that is a little surprising...

For Netbattle, you need to know the server addresses to be able to connect to the servers, as the registry has been down for some time. To my knowledge the memory card that came with Pokemon Box was just a general GCN memory card (or at least, the one that came with my PAL Gamecube Pokemon...

Nice to see other servers appearing that cover r/b/y players. Things are hopefully better than when I hosted the first netbattle r/b/y mode server back on netbattle version 0.9.3 years ago.

    Partial restoration to old format.

As a primarily R/B/Y player, I have to say that the new format is pretty bad for those of us who prefer the first 2 generations, with the potential for posts about those getting lost in among the 3rd gen topics & posts. I would suggest an alteration to this - keep gen 3 seperate, but merge...

Kind of makes things confusing. Merge the boards, fair enough. However, it would probably be better having each generation with their own sticky. Otherwise, people asking questions on one generation, might get their posts overlooked in responses to another generation's question.

Netbattle itself is dead, but have you tried Netbattle Supremacy?

I may be well too late for this, but I am an advocate AGAINST Missingno use, as there is a risk (albeit minute) of permanent corruption in the game. Some other people may dispute this, but I HAVE been hit with permanent corruption from a SINGLE Missingno encounter. Now, onto the "EV"...

Machamp in the original games did have potential, but as it's already been said, there was far too much that could do serious damage to it (including it's own STAB move). As such, it quickly got relegated to the sidelines.

A battle in R/B/Y can last anything from 6 turns (in a 6 on 6 battle), to 10 minutes, depending on how skilled the players are, as well as other factors, including luck. Before anyone comments about my use of the word "luck" - a critical hit (determined in-game by various factors, including a...

I have no idea what changes got made to R/B/Y battling between NB 0.9.6 & NBS, as I was completely offline for that entire time, but I do recall that it was pretty close to true R/B/Y, but there were some things that didn't match the game. Moves that were glitched includied all the multi-turn...

I'm not sure about the catch rates on Gen 3 onwards (I never bothered with looking at the mechanics there), but I know the gen 1 & 2 catch rates are identical. I don't see them changing them for the balls that have existed in all of them.

I've never been a competitive battler myself, but I have messed about with a tradeback Ice Punch Alakazam on Stadium, and I have to say that it worked really well in that game. Of course, Thunder Punch may work equally as good, as Aether Nexus said. I recall that Ie Punch 'Kazam was heavily...

    Gen 1 Tauros or Golem?

The downside to using Golem would be that half of your team would be weak to Ice Moves. I'd go for Tauros on that basis - you don't want half your squad dying from the 1 weakness.
