I think he meant that encourage isn't activated by a normal move under a choice item. Or that encourage doesn't stop the choice item from locking you in a move.

If a choice item pokemon uses mimic, does it get to choose a new move, or is it stuck with its mimicked move?

Has anyone tried Slip-through against reflect/light screen?
