Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
I think it's less about raw usage numbers and more about usage numbers above a certain cutoff of success. Most of these posts are talking about usage within Top 8, Top 32, or Day 2, because seeing a pokemon used in those upper segments of tournaments demonstrates that it's a viable and credible...
I want to recommend against Thunder to echo sentiments in this thread that paralysis makes this mon a little too RNG-fishy to play against. The main switch-ins are going to be pokemon that don't mind getting burned, but the amount of those pokemon that also don't mind paralysis is extremely low...
A while ago, I started a new game of Violet on a second profile, mostly for fun but also to catch a min speed Ursaluna-BM. Having done that, I started the Indigo Disk but wasn't really sure what team I wanted to make for it. But then I saw Oricorio, whose gimmick I've always loved thematically...
What are some fun closed team sheet surprise options? Or something you love using even though you know it's probably outclassed by something else?
:sm/clawitzer:
For me it's this guy. Clawitzer is pretty customizable and threatens a surprisingly relevant portion of the meta. Mega Launcher boosts...
Cool! I like actually making use of Misty Terrain's dragon damage reduction.
For Kyurem, you mentioned not having an ice STAB except Freeze Shock, but have you tried Loaded Dice Icicle Spear? Either way it takes up your item, but since this is a bulkier screens team, it looks like you're wanting...
I can't believe I read this whole writeup. There's something morbidly fascinating about seeing what's common/optimal in such an unhinged format. Bravo! How many turns do battles normally go?
Also, would teching False Swipe on something to cheese past Innards Out ever be worthwhile? I'm guessing...
In 2009, there was a huge policy debate about changing the outcome of matches based on "more skillful play" to eliminate losses based on severe luck. It turned out to be a giant April Fool's prank. I recommend reading through the script; it's pretty fascinating, and hilarious to see the "roles"...
"The OUligarchy" is right there for the taking I'm ashamed with you guys.
But honestly, there's been a giant discussion about what's wrong with sleep clause mod at least every generation that normally resulted in nothing happening, so actually doing something this time and just putting the axe...
I saw somewhere that one of the reasons for this is that the tiers are continually intermingling due to the usage-based system, and that system becomes distorted if rules are inconsistently applied across tiers. In this case, It wouldn't really make sense for powerful sleep abusers to drop...
Isn't that the exact opposite direction it's going in? The rule is now "Moves that inflict sleep if they connect are banned." That seems much less bs than the previous "Sleep moves are allowed, but if you've already landed one and the pokemon you landed it on is still asleep, you can keep using...
See how many hits you get by searching "Espartha" in this forum. Genuinely hilarious.
As far as sleep clause mod, I don't know what exact solution I find best but I am ardently opposed to introducing a new loss condition. Selecting a button that's available to you and arbitrarily losing should...
I'm genuinely curious to see how things go with Darkrai. I'm expecting, as others have said, that sleep won't be a big part of its gameplan except maybe in low ladder, which is a shame for how great and thematic a design it has. It doesn't look like it gets Gravity or any accuracy raising moves...
I think physical AV Hoopa-U may have a bit of a niche, although I'm in low ladder and better players would have to test it out. Here's the set I'm running:
Hoopa-Unbound @ Assault Vest
Ability: Magician
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Hyperspace Fury
-...
Jumpluff in Violet. I caught a Hoppip in the first route and kept it around for the early Sleep Powder, but then it actually got some damage output with Acrobatics as a Skiploom. Later I realized it got screens and memento, which, combined with its amazing speed, made it incredible for trying to...
