Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Then there is an issue with the hotspot connection. Your DS should connect to the internet through your hotspot. Did you test the connection in your wifi settings on the DS?
Some things to try:
- Stop then restart the hotspot (I sometimes have to do this twice to get a good connection)
- Make...
Have you setup a hotspot? It doesn't sound like you have. To run Instacheck, you need to setup a hotspot and connect your DS to that. It comes with a built in one. Please go through the tutorial in the first post of this topic.
You need to set up the hotspot on your laptop. It won't work just through the home wifi. The hotspot creates an additional connection through your laptop...so, basically, your laptop connects to your router, and your DS will connect to your laptop through the virtual router/hotspot.

Have you tried the database?

You don't need to have a wired connection to your internet. I run Instacheck on my wifi-connected laptop. I wouldn't recommend trying it with XP, like Esmeya said, there hasn't been any luck.
I don't think you can use Instacheck without some sort of hotspot. You don't have to use the built in one, but I haven't had any success trying to run it just off of my home wifi connection.
Try the Instacheck with integrated Hotspot, following all of the instructions in the first post, then...
I've gotten this to work, using my 3DS on the hotspot and my husband's on our wifi. If you're not seeing anything in Instacheck, it's not that you can't do it, it's something to do with the connection. Have you allowed sharing on your wifi network AND used the command prompt step in the first...
I was looking at the wrong sharing settings. General sharing settings, not network-specific. I found this page when looking into how to set up an access point in Windows 8 without a separate program. http://www.howtogeek.com/112050/how-to-turn-your-windows-8-laptop-into-a-wireless-access-point/
I did get it running. No love for Connectify...I might be willing to pay for a program with fewer ads. Sheesh.
When I did a test wonder trade, I was only able to see the data for the pokemon that was being traded to me, not the one I offered. This is common in the stand-alone, right?
Thank you. Had a brief moment of mommy brain when the 8 month old suddenly became grumpy, didn't even see the button at first. Good luck with the snow.
Edit: Sadly, allowing it through the firewall did not work :( Working on getting connectify version going.
