    Also assumes Lucario doesn't survive, and I'd argue that sometimes it is in your favor. It's largely team specific.

    Not really. If Mewtwo tries to kill Lucario, then Lucario has done it's job of preventing a Protect, meaning Mewtwo can get hit by Explosion, or any other attack. Only (big) risk is Mewtwo killing the exploder before it does its job (which probably won't be a problem if it has Focus Sash/is...
