I have addressed this issue with a pending fix in a pull request to the Main server.

It kind of already is... if your screen is big enough with a high enough resolution, enter two chatrooms and do Shift + Left Arrow to put a chat to the left, and the second should be to the right and you will then have two chats open at once.

Multi-battles are very possible on Showdown. The real issue with implementing these kinds of things is that there's so much other stuff higher up on the to-do list, and it's hard for developers to have time to get to everything as fast as we would like as there are far more users than there are...
