I just confirmed that Protean does provide a STAB bonus. Used rock tomb with two level 10 Froakies with identical attack stats (defenses were slightly different) against the same level 30 Teddiursa. The one with protean dealt more damage. Also, no luck breeding a Froakie with Shadow Ball.
