Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
The recoil of life orb has a major trade off due to recoil which is even worse in meta with priority and hazard stacking(if you say "just remove the hazards" it is harder in practice in this meta") even some mons weak to stealth rocks use boots rather than an item that increases any offensive attack
Magnezone isn't really an issue in the first place, since it's biggest draw is trapping steels. The only largely used steel in ou that is can trap is Corv, the other steels it can trap are more niche, so Magnezone isn't popular enough for it to be a big issue for Corv.
The possibility of terra steel was to resist giga drain so after a taut Amoonguss couldn't do anything Palafin which would lead to free set up, of course water was still prevalent but steel was another possibility
Clodsire lost to bulk up Palafin anyway, for an example of how Palafin befitted from terra, Amoongus could be a good matchup against Palafin so they started to run terra steel, this came at a cost of losing out on the offensive befits of terra water but you now beat one of few the checks to Palafin.
Unaware doesn't always stop Espathra since Stored power blows most mons with that ability due to the high base power of the move although Skeledirge could be ok and maybe Dondozo
If you are referring to the example I made with IV vs RM, IV could have gone for Moonblast which RM could not stay in on. And I'm not saying countering terra is impossible but it restricts what is viable and counter play is limited (can you give more examples on how to counter terra without...
It's a manner of how terra reduces overall counter, it's not a matter of what the type will be since mons already have preferred types by this point it's more so when and which. Anyone can flip a match up on it's head to gain a major advantage so the best way to handle this is in the team...
Abusing the mechanic to check another mon abusing the same mechanic does not make it balanced or healthy. Having to do so shows how oppressive it is and the lack of counter play. On a different note I would like to make nothing wants to run life orb anymore, the recoil has become undesired due...
Your original post made it seem like you where saying those mons where viable defoggers so bad for the misunderstanding. However your examples for Generation 1 are good, Rhydon was always considered as viable(if not more) as Golem, they are seen as two mons with similar roles that had their own...
Outright ban is the simplest solution and would save much tiering action in the future. The unpredictability is not the real issue since we have already started to seen standardized types used, the problem is that some mons are still tough to deal with even when you know what type they are...
Without Dynamax? The Dynamax era was horrible(hot take I know) games could be decided in a few turns because mons like Gyra, Crov, and even Togekiss would be able to snowball out of control. The best counters would be dynamizing or sending out a ditto once the dynamax was over.
Edit:Quick two...
