That would be true if it were a format allowing only the use of family teams. The thing is, this one gives players other options, which is why it's so different from alternate formats of the past. Also, note that Family Teams have been recently updated to "egg group teams".

I have read in the official d/p pokedex guide by nintendo that Grasswhistle puts a pokemon to sleep for 5 turns. In the research thread, it doesn't mention how long whistle puts them to sleep for. Does the guide lie? Has this ever been tested?
