Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Yeah, it feels like GF is more and more focused on the post game metagame... which sucks at the moment. After you beat the main game, you should be able to change a pokemon's nature at will, and level super fast. IMHO.
That's a fair point, but a simple question could pop up at the beginning of the game: "how many Pokémon games have you played before?" Boom, difficulty mode established. And while my Volcarona example may not be a good gym leader, it could fit on an elite 4 team. I like what Mulan said above-...
I think the AI is what needs to be stepped up, as has been said earlier. Bug gym? Run quiver dance Volcarona. Or better yet, change the gyms from their typing to a style, like a boosting baton-pass gym or a stall gym. That way, kids could learn how to play Pokémon like the professionals.
Ok fair, I'm remembering being four and being stuck outside Cerulean gym, but I still liked the EXP share mechanics. It allowed me to switch up my Pokémon team more freely and experiment.
I agree with Cobradoll...
I don't want to be friends with my rival. I want him to say "smell ya later" and be an asshole. God, I can still remember beating Lance and then thinking I was Champion... but there was Blue with his fucking Blastoise (I was 4, I think). That was a great twist. I...
I know, but the AI doesn't take advantage of it. And the game is so easy even with that rule change that I'd rather just blast through and have fun with the post-game stuff.
I think a great first step would be to remove the option to switch Pokémon after you cause the opponent's Pokémon to faint. That way, you can't constantly cycle type matchups to your benefit.
