Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
What happens if the BP team isn't using Mr. Mime and instead has a hard counter to Thundurus waiting, like Chansey? Then Chnasey can dent Thundurus with Seismic Toss and taking nothing in return, forcing it out. It can use Wish to heal chain pokemon and use Heal Bell to resolve status. Now what?
Unprecedented in it's nature and complexity? Certain Gen 3 rulesets involved a BP clause where no more than two BP pokemon can be used. That's a direct precedent. I agree with the second part of the quote, though: three BP users can be used in the same way that a team of four or five or six are...
No I'm saying it's worse than those because you need a specialized counter to beat it and a very small number of teams pack those counters. At least with Swagger you have a 50/50 shot of breaking through, if you don't have a counter to BP you have maybe a 5% chance of getting the "right" crit to...
"Viable" is different from "fair". Swagplay was viable. It was also uncompetitive. I'm taking what you termed "viable" as "fair and competitive to use i n the metagame". I'm of the opinion that Baton Pass Chains (including defensive Baton Pass Chains, which i assume only pass defensive boosts?)...
I understand we could test and find that Scolipede is broken, or whatever. But what is the point of doing that? We know Baton Pass Chains are a problem (alright most people do, but the ones who do not will not be convinced. A majority does). The simplest and most effective strategy is to limit...
1) There's no guarantee Scolipede itself is the problem: it could be totally what is breaking BP, or it could be a better Ninjask to the point where BP is broken, or it could be better than Ninjask, but Ninjask might also be good enough to break BP. We don't know.
2) You know what totally ends...
Sun teams had an advantage over rain teams in Gen 5, at least for parts; saying otherwise is retarded. This is part of a bigger problem: the people who are like "no don't ban BP i use it on the ladder adapt!!!!" don't realize the type of disadvantage BP creates. In a situation where one type...
I'll try. The problem with BP teams is how they function as a chain, not the contributions of any pokemon individually. Banning any of Scolipede, Sylveon, or Espeon
would pretty much kill effective BP, you're right. But no individual of those three are broken on their own and none are broken...
So wait you're admitting BP counters hold a team back and your justification for keeping them is "if a team ISN'T running a BP counter, the the player sucks, therefore you should be able to beat that shitty, stupid player even at a disadvantage"? So all "good" players are supposed to pledge to...
"Rock-Paper-Scissors" is like this:
BP Teams beat "Standard" teams (meaning, they lack BP counters)
Teams with BP counters beat BP teams
"Standard" teams usually beat teams with BP counters as the Counter is shit like Whimsicott or other champs like Shedninja which are pretty much death fodder...
Alright so I want to stop Baton Pass so I pack BOTH Whimsicott and a "Dark Pokemon with Volt-Turn". And I'll just battle other ladder teams 6 on 4. When you're suggesting Shedninja as a solid counter something is wrong
Not when adapting means screwing yourself against literally any other...
