Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Thanks so much! I've played with this team a bunch of times under the handle [SpecialTactics]Red on the server, and I have seen mixed success. Volcarona isn't usually a huge problem for me because so many players get tricked into bouncing Rocks onto their side of the field, but you are right...
Recreating a Legend
To me, Pokemon Trainer Red wasn't just a video game character - he was a legend. When Red Version came out, I was in fact that tender age of 10. Before Yellow Version was out, I had already collected all 151 Pokemon. I legitimately purchased both Scyther and Porygon...
You don't need Quagsire, that was a side note. Quagsire serves as a great back-up in case you can't phaze with Dragonite (maybe it's dead?) and he drops a late-game set-up sweeper with you Dnite down. It's mostly an insurance policy, not necessary but an intriguing investment. I would prefer...
Jellicent is preferred because it pairs well with Forretress and Dragonite in terms of absorbing weaknesses well. Obviously it is great to have a spin-blocker, but you need that instant recovery access that Jellicent has in recover. You can also put Magic Coat on Deoxys-S (to bounce opposing...
It seems to me like this "Rain Team" is really just meant to create a shield to protect your teams overwhelming Fire Weakness. However, you can't trust things to Politoed if it gets killed by a Heatran with HP Grass/Elec. as part of a core that could easily tear a big hole in this team. You...
I would suggest swapping out Rotom-W for Gastrodon. This will create a powerful anti-weather core, and allow you to rely on Gastrodon as a Special Wall. This can free up Heatran to maybe be a Scarftran Revenge-Killer? Do whatever you want, but believe in the power of something that can wall...
Without the STAB boost on those pokes with Flamethrower, you're not gonna have the cojones to take out Ferro. Trade the accuracy for the power boost and go with Fire Blast. I personally think Reuniclus is a waste of this team as well, so replace it with some priority like CB Scizor or Conkeldurr.
That may be because of Mold Breaker, which means he ignores other people's abilities. It negates everything from Wonder Guard to Levitate.
Also, a Rock Polish, LO Golurk will have a better chance of sweeping because +2 speed is just so <3
The Meta would be much more interesting without all the permanent weather. At least a Clear Skies option would be nice, for all the people who just LOVE Sand or Rain (since Sun and Hail don't get much love). I could play 4th Gen, but honestly you can still run Sand in it without Poison Heal on...
Forretress is the answer to Toxic Spikes. You'd have to trade out Ferrothorn, but it's the easiest way to get a spinner in there without sacrificing set-up and a physical wall. The only other choice is to run more poison-types and flyers (which would ruin the team). Forretress can switch into...
When Gen V first released I used a Suicide-Charizard set-up that would, quite literally, be able to sweep entire teams if SR wasn't set.
Name: Blaze of Glory
move 1: Fire Blast
move 2: Solar Beam
move 3: Dragon Pulse
move 4: Hidden Power Ground
item: Life Orb
ability: Solar Power
nature: Timid...
Rhyperior and Nidoking would make infinitely better Physical and Special Sweepers that get the advantages of sand. You can replace Tyranitar and Reuniclus/Slowking with those two.
Unaware Quagsire > Gastrodon IMO. The ability to switch into a set-up sweeper (like Thundurus and Volcarona) without a care in the world for their buffs and still having access to instant-regen and also Curse is pretty hard to argue with. I think Gastrodon has better SDef, but that's about it...
