Project SV PU Research Week

SORRY FOR FORMATTING; I’M HOMELESS on vacation.

Ok. So I ran a few variations of the owl.

:decidueye-hisui:

Defog with max hp max def
Defog with max hp max spdef

both of these are good defoggers! Wow much awesome. The utility of defog, knock off, uturn, scrappy triple arrow(s?) and reliable recovery in roost make this a flexible Mon that forms decent defensive cores or a bandaid defogger that can survive after a knockoff … looking at YOU Scyther :scyther:

And now I PRESENT TO YOU:

DICEdueye aka the disappointment aka me according to my parents

max attack max speed
Or
Max hp - hit 161 speed - rest def/spdef

Loaded dice
bulk up/swords dance
BULLET SEED
Triple Arrow(s?)
Roost

This is ok but not because of loaded dice. Bulk up likes clicking every move BUT bullet seed. Consider knock off and lefties or heavy duty boots instead.

hello all! thank you for yet another successful research week!!!! also, congratulations to PrincessGardevoir for topping the ladder rankings this week and earning a spot in the hall of fame! and without further ado...

:sv/alcremie: Research Week 7: Your Cake Has Burned :sv/charizard:
Welcome to Research Week 7! This week we'll be focusing on Alcremie and Charizard.

:pmd/alcremie:
Although it lost an important tool in Mystical Fire, Alcremie has seen moderate success this generation as a Calm Mind sweeper thanks to a lack of competition from other Fairy-types and Hyper Offense generally being very strong as of late. However, it's not without its shortcake... shortcomings. It's not without its shortcomings. Dazzling Gleam being its STAB move of choice, alongside a mediocre Speed and mediocre stats in general before boosting, mean that this custard can be beaten to a pulp before it's had time to set. Will you manage to be a top chef and cook up a recipe for success?

:pmd/charizard:
Previously thought to be broken, Charizard has fallen out of the spotlight a fair bit in recent months. However, it still has plenty of traits that allow it to keep opponents guessing, and with Salazzle being recently banned, its competition as a Fire-type has slimmed down quite a bit! Will you manage to pull out a treasure from Charizard's dragon's hoard of offensive options? Or is he finally toast?

The tag for this week will be SVRW07. The deadline for this week is Sunday, March 24th.
Good luck, and happy researching!

edit: got the date for deadline wrong lol

Hi, sorry my research is late again! My research went really poorly this time, with only 1 win out of 6 games I played. I had a lot of unexpected stuff IRL but that's no excuse for my poor research, I will try again next time.

Week 6:

Decidueye-Hisui

Team 1: Sub Focus Punch Offense

The team: :decidueye-hisui: :bronzong: :floatzel: :salazzle: :lycanroc: :alcremie:

Scarf is fun. shouldve set up decid h later but oh well. Flame orb not that useful in this game but ill keep it for the eventual Salazzle encounters

Game 3: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2079148071-6cikcz7pbzmbja12wa20lr85a851ehypw lets go!! Finally a win. Sub focus punch on eiscue mattered (the sub mattered at least but ill still take it)

Exeggutor-Alola
Team 1: Sd Dragon Hammer + Other Button Clickers

The team: :exeggutor-alola: :farigiraf: :skuntank: :typhlosion: :sandslash: :jolteon:

Game 2: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2083634078-hksmfy85z5ij1mnpngna6nk3o9emtl0pw another loss, yeah im not too proud of the team and my playing. oh well.

Game 3: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2083747947-7anmpk3ktf2su4cbje5ic6qnls5gjehpw im so washed I messed this game up so bad.

After just four days of not very good playing, I have results about The Cream already.
1711001310727.png

Alcremie (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draining Kiss
- Acid Armor
- Calm Mind
- Stored Power

This was the final set I came up with. It is a reletively generic set of Alcremie that I had used before, but my god is it good. With great special bulk and decent physical bulk. I max invested into it's physical to make sure it could live one hit from most unboosted Phys. Attackers so that it could set up it's Acid Armors. It's Sp. Def is great, but I prefered not to take chances, since no other stat needed it anyway. Originally I had Alluring Voice insted of draining kiss, but I had Leftovers Knocked Off and got Poisoned so often that I decided that it needed more ways of recovery. Remebering that Tera made Draining Kiss 60BP while healing 75% of damage dealt, combined with the spamming of Calm Mind for Stored Power meant that it could hit off ~1000 Sp. Att, recovering huge amounts of HP. And Stored Power combos well with Alcremie's Fairy typing, hitting Poisons for super effective damage and just blasting through steels with sheer power. Alcremie is generally is pretty fragile, being unable to take more than one STAB Super Effective hit without a defence boost. However, even if you just play semi-decently (Me), once it sets up, it becomes almost an unkillable wall, if not for Crits. Honestly, I think Alcremie has been a sleeper threat, but I think this research week is going to make others see how dangerous this mon is.

Here's some random replays of Alcremie being good and Charizard being bad. I just saved some notable ones, and you'll probabily notice my team changing a lot, but it should show you how much Alcremie carried when I needed it to.

Overall, this is my first Research Week, so it's pretty fun. Still have to work on Charlizard, though. It's more painful to make work, but I'll probabily do it soon. And I'll give some Creamy updates on how she's faring, too. But for now, Bye!

I gave up on charizard. Here are some sets that made me go 1-12. Not enough games to form a consensus but sheeeeesh I QUIT.

:Charizard:

Charizard @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Blaze
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 16 HP / 240 Atk / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Temper Flare
- Hurricane

Charizard (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Blaze
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Flare Blitz
- Temper Flare

Now for :Alcremie: Alcremie - My true love. It's setup sets are very viable, so I tested SPECS!

Alcremie-Rainbow-Swirl @ Choice Specs
Ability: Aroma Veil
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 112 HP / 252 SpA / 144 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Alluring Voice
- Psyshock
- Tera Blast
- Misty Explosion

It was very fun. I think it did pretty well. I went like 18-2 with this - which is great for me cuz I can't win on ladder.

The immediate power and surprise factor of specs is worth considering on certain teams. Tera fire, especially - with tera blast nuking would-be checks.

I wish I had more to say. Here's one replay where Alcremie made the opponent quit Alcremie did something...:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2083447395?p2

Here's a team with Alcremie (specs)

Charizard @ Choice Specs
Ability: Blaze
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Air Slash
- Tera Blast
- Overheat
I agree with E4 Bruno Mars. Char is not good. With a lack of high powered and consistent Flying moves on both sides of the spectrum, Charizard should not be your first pick if you need a fire type on your team. This was the best set I had after testing many many sets with this mon. It lacks the speed and bulk to be a Belly Drum sweeper, Heavy Duty Boots sets lacked offensive power from lack of a damage boosting item, Dragon Dance sets were too fragile, and so too were Life Orb sets. The best set I used made use of a high powered Overheat to blast at opponents, then switch, and its fantastic stealth rock weakness to put Char into Blaze range. Tera Ground counters opposing Rock or Electric type counters, but it retains it's water weakness. Overall, I think Charizard can fill a niche on a team if used right, but it's too volatile, too mediocre at everything to be good at something.
Here. Some Replays. These are only the ones where Char is good. For when it's bad, see the Alcremie replays.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2086364149
Char ends the game

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2086367882
Blaze dealing 59% to a Pory 2 on a crit and 61% to a Mesprit

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2086390853
Well timed ground tera

Also Alcremie is still very good. I've had to pull it out of my Research team because I used it too much against others when I should be focusing on Char. Cream superiority!

-First Research Week for me completed. Looking forward to the next one!
Mareeplijah.
(Also can the next RW be on Typholsion? Please?)

My research will be done tomorrow morning (CET), I apologize it's late again but it's got some heat games.

Also edit: I see people keep saying Charizard sucks but just wait for my set...ok it's not good I agree but it's funny when you surprise people with stuff and Charizard is one of those Pokémon. Cool to see other people's stuff so far though.

Hello, it's me, and I have results for these mons

First, let's talk about Alcremie, which I ran this set:

Alcremie @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 200 HP / 252 Def / 56 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Acid Armor
- Draining Kiss
- Stored Power

Which maybe is the most common set for her lol

When comparing her to other stored power users, she's the one with the 2nd and 3rd highest SpDef and SpA respectively, which makes her somewhat "threatening" b4 setting up, plus with her ""unique"" fairy type, she can resist dark types, while the others can't

But while she can't be encored/taunted, she can still find herself in trouble with leech seed, toxic/poison, faster poison types(with gunk shot) or anything physical with a high Att stat or crits.

So, as of my opinion, she has some potential, but with the meta filled with Grafaiai poison types and great physical attackers

Now let's talk about Charizard, which I used this set:

Charizard @ Choice Specs
Ability: Solar Power
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Air Slash
- Scorching Sands
- Weather Ball
- Dragon Pulse/Tera blast/Solar Beam

I used it in a ok-ish sun team I made (https://pokepast.es/d5e4138ad02840a9) and like what everyone else thought and said, I agree it's bad, bc either you're forced to run Boots and not have the manpower to deal significant dmg, or you struggle with rocks, the lack of accurate flying moves isn't cool, also with the presence of Lycan makes it hard to run zard

Alright here is my research! Just have to add that I think Charizard was more useful in my games than Alcremie lol.

Week 7:

Alcremie

Team 1: Giga Drain Alcremie

The team: :alcremie: :typhlosion: :cramorant: :dudunsparce: :houndstone: :qwilfish-hisui:

Game 1: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2088558413-waarongebwrkzoz597789ml8zvh03c6pw yeah rough start but oh well

Bonus Game 1: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2088560241-z9s9cqy70i66gs8obelk0j4rf2sm4odpw qwilfish h power

Game 2: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2088560746-9k66esmj9jzv42m5g7hh2n70vt3v35epw very fair game with no luck involved in losing

Game 3: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2088562465-pyr8fiicefflgcoxh3abyb0c08jsljhpw yay the team finally won. Never rly got to use the set but that was mainly because I never faced a physical water type like floatzel

Charizard

Team 1: COUNTER CHARIZARD

The team: :charizard: :hitmonchan: :bruxish: :qwilfish-hisui: :arboliva: :bronzong:

Bonus Game 1: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2086945634-h60cuymibxmrlhlmhohhwdl58j2verypw ig counter charizard was so scary they didnt even see it out

Bonus Game 2 bc wrong acc: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2088308061-wtpiqpi05rlkprdfqbqeln7pmkwixifpw COUNTER YEAHHH

Bonus Game 3 bc another bulky psychic type counters most low ladder teams: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2088313980-kh2yeez1ujeraf0adk9o4h8vho8izk6pw

Game 1: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2088317700-l4vmbedtnpwcpyn5k93yaa1skcygj0rpw didn’t double sd so I lost and now im sad! Great game tho COUNTER GOES HARD

Game 2: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2088322244-ifdlpd9xrvgbcabyljm50b5u1wxggjwpw counter ALMOST happened but sadly they outplayed. Still great game and charizard put in work chipping sableye

Game 3: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2088553116-g9p6rinhkppzznwjpd35bb9qabn0702pw the team all puts in WORK. Great last game, shows that counter isn’t needed to be used for a win condition.

Hello all! Thank you for another successful research week, and congrats to E4 Bruno Mars (again) for having the highest ladder ranking and entering the hall of fame (again)! Also, since it's that time of the year again - Research Week will be going on a hiatus (again) after this week! When this week ends on Sunday, March 31st, we will be taking a one week hiatus to allow things to settle after April shifts. We will pick back up on April 7th.

That said, without further ado...

:sv/bruxish: Research Week 8: Fit Check :sv/toedscruel:
Welcome to Research Week 8! This week we'll be focusing on Bruxish and Toedscruel.

:pmd/bruxish:
Despite the plethora of Dark-types and speedy threats in the tier, Bruxish has managed to make a home for itself in what would seem to be a rather hostile environment. Dazzling and Strong Jaw are both excellent abilities, pairing well with STAB moves such as Psychic Fangs and Aqua Jet, as well as strong setup options like Swords Dance. In addition, the funny fish has also found success in another department: Choice sets. Both Band and Scarf allow Bruxish an extra burst of power or speed to make it much, much more dangerous. Will you struggle to figure out where this diva fits best, or will you manage to string your opponents along hook, line, and sinker?

:pmd/toedscruel:
Toedscruel has had an... odd history in its brief lifespan. Largely viewed as a sidegrade or downgrade to Mold Breaker, Mycelium Might gives Toedscruel's status moves the dubious benefit of not being interrupted by things such as Magic Guard at the cost of always going last. While this does have some unique applications, such as being able to delay resetting hazards until after your opponent tries to remove them, there are generally very few situations where this is actually beneficial... or are there? Perhaps you could be the one to find out?

The tag for this week will be SVRW08. The deadline for this week is Sunday, March 31st. Good luck, and happy researching!!

And although I just sent the tag and everything I already finished so here's my research! I'm actually done in time I'm so proud.

Week 8:

WEATHER TIME

Bruxish

Team 1: Rain Team

The team: :bruxish: :sableye: :whimsicott: :articuno: :floatzel: :hitmonchan:

Game 1: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2091082308-m7xc5bs7mkf3lzcerkxm36yrhalw2xupw thought id play a nice easy low elo game but instead got a win only bc they thought we were speed tied (they were prob +speed, I was +atk) and went for aqua jet and threw

Game 2: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2092387344-gau0j58yogl49ob2d7oo3j6emwa33fnpw EEEE Bruxish put in the work EVEN WITHOUT RAIN. Aqua jet doing 49 to electivire was so much fun.

Game 3: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2092389777-2sb8x15tgoi6trgk9jptcxjynysburbpw they shouldve won but bruxish doing that much to tauros was so much fun

Toedscruel

Team 2: Sun Team

The team: :toedscruel: :grafaiai: :typhlosion: :sandslash: :dusknoir: :combusken:

Game 1: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2092393920-drtz5thjpn61d6lakbk1hrn71jqez5upw combusken wins the game after toedscruel ohkoes a brav h lol (plus a bit of other weird stuff LOL)

Fixed team bc I forgot to put prankster lol: https://pokepast.es/484c406f7197f04a

Game 2: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2092398262-v7rhsqj0fwbnnevxtukiy1e3hwo3txcpw lost here but its ok. I dont want to talk about the memento

Game 3: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9pu-2092401343-qw8669kiykux3ks9jfh6dczfscubkv7pw LES GO toedscruel put in the WORK I love that it lived the last attack.

I haven’t talked about team weaknesses in a bit but both teams were clearly weak to priority. I was tempted to go weather + pterrain but I felt like that would be too much. In terms of strengths though, I think I chose the right prankster Pokémon for the right weathers. Sableye was great for rain because it could take those physical water types, whereas theoretically grafaiai could take special attacks better.

I am once again on vacation and can’t format well on my phone so forgive me.

Here’s the two sets (swapping in and out toxic

Toedscruel @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Mycelium Might
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Leaf Storm
- Sludge Bomb/Toxic
- Rapid spin/Toxic

I wish I had more time this week to research as I wanted to find some heat but I did have a good time with both sets.

Ultimately I think it’s niche as a rapid spinner and it’s niche as a mon with toxic work well together.

I found that toxic was really useful for wearing down walls and stopping sweeps. I saw myself clicking sludge bomb plenty when I had it on my set too however.

After starting my laddering 1-8 last week trying to get zard to work, I found laddering this week incredibly easy. Almost making 1300 in very limited games. THOUGH ONCE I SWITCHED TEAMS FOR PULT I COULDNT WIN TO SAVE MY LIFE

TEAM: https://pokepast.es/17f76a4c64b41858

CALCS:

Leaf storm OHKOs all the physdef rockers in the tier.

Toxic eventually kills everything but steel and poison types (earth power ez)

Hi, me again doing one of those, and here are the sets I used, first for bruxish:

Bruxish @ Choice Scarf

Ability: Dazzling

Tera Type: Fairy

EVs: 252 Atk / 6 Def / 252 Spe

Adamant Nature

- Wave Crash

- Flip Turn

- Tera Blast

- Psychic Fangs

With dazzling plus it's considerable speed and att, it's really good as a late game sweeper, tho it can struggle with grassy terrain teams (specially with sceptile)

Now onto toedscruel:

Toedscruel @ Assault Vest

Ability: Mycelium Might

Tera Type: Poison

EVs: 240 HP / 252 SpA / 16 SpD

Modest Nature

- Rapid Spin

- Sludge Bomb

- Earth Power

- Giga Drain

With AV, it gets really bulky in the special side, but it still can struggle with physical attackers and ice type attacks

I have a recommendation for PU RW. To celebrate each other's research, it would be cool if we could have some way of commenting about positives and negatives of the sets/research but idk if there is a way to do it without spamming this thread.

There is a way. In the SV UU RW, we did something like this. You could use the Quote tagging feature to reply to other's post and comment about it. In case you don't know how the Quote works, you could just click Reply in other's posts then edit it out to point out which statement/s you want to comment with.
