[SET]
Swords Dance (Gallade-Mega) @ Galladite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt
- Knock Off / Triple Axel
[SET COMMENTS]
With its astronomical Attack stat further bolstered by Swords Dance, Mega Gallade is nigh-unmatched as a wallbreaker in National Dex UU, shredding through defensive cores consisting of common Pokemon such as Ting-Lu, Mega Venusaur, Buzzwole, and Celesteela with ease. Mega Gallade's Speed tier is also excellent, outpacing notable offensive threats such as Mienshao, Hydreigon, and Keldeo. Close Combat's immense power allows Mega Gallade to achieve several outstanding feats; it comfortably 2HKOes Celesteela and Gastrodon, and at +2, it can OHKO rather bulky targets such as Rotom-W and Assault Vest Tangrowth. Zen Headbutt serves as Mega Gallade's strongest STAB option against Clefable, 2HKOing it at +2 while threatening common Fighting-resistant targets such as Buzzwole and Amoonguss. Knock Off complements Mega Gallade's STAB combination perfectly by hitting many Psychic- and Ghost-type Pokemon super effectively, OHKOing Slowking and Aegislash at +2 while also greatly threatening Slowbro, Victini, and Skeledirge. Alternatively, Triple Axel exchanges said coverage for the ability to OHKO Hydrapple unboosted and other targets such as Mega Latias and physically defensive Hippowdon at +2. Justified allows Mega Gallade to take advantage of weak Dark-type attacks such as Knock Off from Mega Venusaur and Tangrowth prior to Mega Evolving. Mega Gallade fits best on bulky offense teams, which can efficiently facilitate its opportunities to wallbreak. Defensive pivots such as Rotom-W, Scizor, and Slowking are vital for their ability to generate momentum, allowing Mega Gallade to hit the field safely against the likes of Ting-Lu and Mega Venusaur, and stifle potential revenge killing attempts from faster threats such as Iron Boulder and Choice Scarf Enamorus. Conversely, other offensive Pokemon such as Iron Moth and Choice Specs Greninja possess excellent offensive synergy with Mega Gallade, pressuring physically defensive Pokemon such as Clefable and Hippowdon that it may have trouble breaking through. In return, Mega Gallade can take advantage of their ability to use U-turn to switch into specially defensive walls such as Tyranitar and Blissey. Lastly, Mega Gallade greatly appreciates support from entry hazards, which can help wear down the likes of Skarmory and Tapu Fini to the point where it can KO them. Good examples of hazard setters that pair well with Mega Gallade include Ting-Lu, Clefable, and Mold Breaker Excadrill.
