The World Cup of Pokémon 2025
wcoplogo-png.731726

Logo by Pissog
Hosted by ken, Vertigo, Syrinix, UT, goldmason, and mimi. Also, Larry.

In keeping the same format that we used in 2024, the sheer amount of games to be played will keep many on their toes until the final hours of qualifiers and pools. With Spain being relegated in 2024 after having won it all in 2023, they're certainly a team to watch from the very beginning as they attempt to mount their comeback in 2025. Europe is another team to watch, especially after the recent update to eligibility policy and when you take into account they've made it to semifinals in four of the last five years. In fact, the last SEVEN editions have had different regions claim the blue trophy, so perhaps we may even see bigger upsets.

US Midwest won it all last year, their first time sitting atop the podium, and in the last seven years, each US region has won the trophy once. Will we see any of the US teams earn another trophy, or will we see a team run through qualifiers and take it all the way for the first time since 2022? Will Africa use their starting position in the main event as a propeller to push for the trophy? Who will predict the highest percentage of pools matchup winners correctly? Only time will tell, so keep watching and remember:

FIGHT FOR YOUR COUNTRY!!!

Might be kinda random to do this a year later, but since I decided I am not returning for this year’s WCoP, I’d like to shoutout my team, US Midwest, for doing the unimaginable and winning this tournament last year. Unfortunately I got busy last year and by the time I went to go write shoutouts the thread was closed lol.

This was something 5 tournaments in the making since back in 2020 when MANNAT and I took the helm. Love us or hate us, we turned a team that hadn’t touched playoffs in about a decade into the single most consistent team in the modern era of WCoP with streak of 5 playoff appearances and a victory to cap it off.

With that said, our success was less our doing and more due to our amazing anchor players over the years - Luthier, dice, zio, kythr, mike, and of course, Tace. I’d also like to shoutout Sam for trusting us all those years ago - hopefully you return to collect your trophy this year. Thanks guys for 5 amazing tournaments - I hope to see Midwest continue to have success and to hopefully be the first team in a long time to go b2b.

For those who are captaining or playing for smaller countries and regions - I hope our victory last year shows that you don’t need “star power” or a high volume of eligible players to win. All you need is love for your team and the confidence to know that anyone can beat anyone.

To those participating in this year’s WCoP, have fun. This is a special tournament. I look forward to keeping up with it as a spectator for the first time in a long time.

If you're from the southern US don't be afraid to shoot your shot with any of our captains. Try to pitch yourself and make it clear what your Smogon name is if we may not recognize you. Always on the look out for fresh talent to bring in, whether it be for this year or the future :toast:

I ranked every single team that will be entering the WCOP qualifiers here:
I gave the best possible input I could have on each team as an introductory video for people looking for teams to root for and teams to keep an eye out for

may the best team win and I'm looking forward to seeing the games

edit: info on asia accidentally got cut, but here's a short summary of what was said:

they've been bouncing around a lot in the main event and qualifiers, have a lot of strong talent in ahy addicted, jj09 and pkel with a potential upset player in kaneki-san. lady bug did well in SPL after a very long hiatus, so maybe he can show something cool here. overall, strong top end team

Hi, if you're a Canadian player planning to signup for Team Canada this year and are interested in trying out, reach out to me through dm here on smogon or on discord (loor_). Tryouts will be held during the first week of main stage signups in SV OU. When you reach out, please include a general introduction about yourself including results, builds and other information you may find relevant. If you are not a SV OU player, the tryout tour is not 100% necessary but I'd like a more extensive resume and you may be asked to play games in your main tier. SV OU competency is a asset I will be looking for, so even if its not your main tier it is still recommended you play the tryout tour. Once you reach out ill invite you to our discord, I'll have signups and more information there in the coming days. Thank you!

The Slowproletariat disdain to conceal their views and aims. They openly declare that their ends can be attained only by the forcible overthrow of all existing selection conditions. Let the nepotistic classes tremble at a Slowpokistic revolution. The Slowproletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win.

myself, clean, fade, foolycl, emforbes, and lode attempted to make a tier list for this year's WCOP main event teams. check that out here:
as always, these lists are usually biased as hell and completely off the goop in terms of end result LOL, but I hope it is entertaining for some regardless

make sure to check out Foolycl's youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@foolyclx/videos he may be covering some WCOP content as well!

lil tash will make waves in the tour scene, just watch..

AVATARS TIME WOOOOOOOOO
After starting over a month ago, avatars are finally done & uploaded on sim!
I wanna shoutout our great artists like always: sharpclaw, deetah, Turtleye_, RADU and Irpachuza, with a special thanks for kyledove for allowing us to use their incredible trainer sprites & always being of great advice when needed
Huge shoutouts to managers as well for always being nice and understanding when rules don't necessarily go their way

US South
wcop2025ussouth.png
wcop2025ussouth2.png

I've made the Skeledirge sprite for US South's avatars, and Xrn put them together while adding edits & recolors to trainers
Both trainer sprites were made by kyledove.

US Midwest
wcop2025usmidwest.png
wcop2025usmidwest2.png

I've also made the Grovyle sprite for Midwest's avatars, while editing trainer sprites a bit and adding an egg (for SOME reason) on the male one
The Pokemon Breeder sprite was made by kyledove, and the Erika sprite by Brumirage.
Have to mention that the Time Gear was made by Irpa for last year's avatar as well

US Northeast

wcop202usnortheast.png
wcop2025usnortheast2.png

Another pair of avatars for another US team, I've made the custom Deoxys-A sprite for the first one, and edited the second one with huge help from Turtleye for the portal thing & effects on Deoxys

Oceania
wcop2025oceania.png
wcop2025oceania2.png

Made a custom Shark sprite for Team Oceania, and recolored the Gen3 Ace Trainer, while Drifting to put everything together

With huge help from Radu for the flag on the female one, I got to work on France's avatar, making them a custom Kyurem sprite and editing the Gen 3 Bruno sprite & Lucy (made by kyledove) to fit their needs

United Kingdom

wcop2025uk2.png

And of course, I made UK's avatars with huge help from Altthiel
The ORAS Lady sprite was one again made by kyledove

hope you enjoy the avatars please be nice to artists donate to palestine and drink responsibly

Since I was busier recently, I couldn't contribute as much to the WCOP avis effort this year—which meant I mostly just had a front-row seat to our incredible artist team as they worked their magic. As always, kudos to Clem, Irpachuza, Turtleye_, deetah, RADU, and what-would-we-do-without-his-sprites kyledove for their incredible work, and thanks to Kalalokki for the support.

I worked on 3 CAs this year:

Brazil
WCOP25_BrazilF2.png

F2 (Dancer-Gen7) by kyledove, original edits by lydian with fixes from me
Quaquaval edits by Clem

US West
WCOP25_USWF.png

F (Liza) recolor & edits by me
M (Surfer) by kyledove, recolor & edits by me
Gholdengo-F by me
Gholdengo-M by EBaru-On (twitter link)
