Pet Mod Paleomons - Slate 12 Winners

Hello everyone! We'll be opening a new slate soon, but first there's a couple of admin announcements I need to make.

First off, the most recent slate and balance changes are now live on DragonHeaven! Huge thanks to anaconja for making that happen.

Second, a less exciting announcement. As of now, the Discord server we had been using is defunct, as the server owner's account was hacked, and nobody else has permissions to manage the server. Because of this, I've made a new server, which will be used for all Paleomons discussion going forward! Here's the link to that.

Finally, we have a small balance change to announce!

:cradily: Cradily
76 / 88 / 103 / 108 / 113 / 47 --> 76 / 88 / 93 / 108 / 103 / 47
- Amnesia, Earthquake, Earth Power

In some very recent testing, Cradily has proven to be a massive issue. Cradily as a mon is already extremely polarizing, as you pretty much need a mon with a super-effective STAB (Poison, Flying, or Bug) in order to break through its obscene bulk with Poison Heal. These types obviously aren't the most common, though thankfully our meta has a fair amount of the first two. However, none of the few Cradily checks can actually switch safely into the combination of Earthquake and Toxic. Beyond that, crit-me-not sets with Curse+Amnesia are ridiculously strong, relying on the fact that most super-effective hits only do around 70% to it at most in order to boost up and ignore all of its usual answers. In light of all of these facts, a massive nerf was warranted, so we've taken the liberty of lowering Cradily's bulk and removing some of its more problematic tools. You'll still have Toxic as a progress-maker, and Curse is still available for setup, but you'll no longer be able to flatly beat Poison types that try switching in.

Next up is a Fakemon slate! The goal for this slate will be to create Fakemon from the prehistoric creatures listed above, and the rules for submission are as follows:
  • You can sub 1 to 3 of the prompts chosen in this slate.
  • Make sure your sub would be balanced in the current meta. Now that the meta is large enough, please be sure to justify your mon's competitive role in the sub.
  • Custom Elements are allowed, as long as they are different from already existing abilities/moves and are relatively simple to code (no custom field effects - we're learning from last gen lol. Also, if you think it's codable but our coder disagrees, then you'd better be prepared to code it yourself if it wins.)

Submissions will be open for 6 days. If you have any questions, feel free to message me or ask in the mod's Discord. As a reminder if you didn't read the above post, we are using a new Discord server. The link to that is here. Happy subbing!

Role: Utility Piece with high speed and also a big move in pixilate STAB Boomburst.

post-veto stuff: no more pixilate!

Defog, Roost, Will-O-Wisp
Acrobatics, Aerial Ace, Agility, Air Slash, Bite, Body Slam, Breaking Swipe, Crunch, Cut, Defense Curl, Defog, Double Team, Double-Edge, Dragon Claw, Dragon Pulse, Dragon Tail, Dual Wingbeat, Ember, Endure, Extreme Speed, Facade, Feather Dance, Fire Blast, Fire Fang, Fire Spin, Flame Charge, Flamethrower, Flare Blitz, Giga Impact, Growl, Heat Wave, Hone Claws, Hurricane, Hyper Beam, Night Slash, Outrage, Overheat, Peck, Protect, Quick Attack, Razor Wind, Rest, Roost, Scorching Sands, Scratch, Shadow Claw, Slash, Sleep Talk, Snatch, Solar Beam, Steel Wing, Substitute, Sunny Day, Swift, Tailwind, Temper Flare, Thief, U-Turn, Will-O-Wisp, Work Up

Role: Fills a currently missing niche in the meta of a fast, specially offensive Fire-type, as well as being a strong offensive pivot. STABs alone are great clicks, but being boots-locked means you can pretty easily fit utility like Roost, Defog, and Wisp if you wanna play things a bit slower.

Flavor: Pretty much the single thing Oviraptor is known for is incubating its eggs, so Ovinraptor is known for being a great parent, regulating its body temperature in order to reach the perfect heat for each egg. It's even been known to take eggs that are left abandoned and raise them as its own.

Flavor: Ovinraptor is very protective of its young, so Ovee isn't allowed to leave its shell for the first few years of its life. The shell provides very good protection, but also makes it a bit clumsy.

Role: Burns are everywhere in the current meta, and there are a few physical attackers that ignore them, but all of the current options are Fire types (or Swishivish, who is never dropping Aerilate for Water Veil). Crestuary provides more variety to the Burn-immune meta, beating other Fires (including Skeledirge, though you have to be careful with that one) while also not minding any Water attacks that may come its way. Also provides a unique Speed tier, and is a faster but weaker/frailer Dragon Dancer compared to Tyrantrum.

Flavor: Crestuary would sit on the banks of rivers, searching the shores for easy prey. It excelled at both running and swimming, making it a threat in all terrains.

Amnesia, Body Press, Body Slam, Bulldoze, Bullet Seed, Curse, Cut, Dark Pulse, Destiny Bond, Double-Edge, Earth Power, Earthquake, Endure, Energy Ball, Facade, Giga Impact, Grass Knot, Grassy Terrain, Growth, Gunk Shot, Haze, Headbutt, Heavy Slam, Hex, High Horsepower, Hyper Beam, Iron Tail, Leaf Storm, Leech Seed, Mean Look, Memento, Mud Shot, Mud-Slap, Night Shade, Night Slash, Phantom Force, Poltergeist, Protect, Razor Leaf, Rest, Revenge, Roar, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Sand Tomb, Sandstorm, Scary Face, Scorching Sands, Seed Bomb, Shadow Ball, Shadow Claw, Slack Off, Slam, Sleep Talk, Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Solar Beam, Stealth Rock, Strength, Substitute, Superpower, Take Down, Toxic, Toxic Spikes, Trailblaze, Zen Headbutt

Role: The meta is lacking in physdef fatmons with recovery, so here's one of those. Carriguana eats hits for days and recovers off damage with Slack Off, while having a fairly respectable 90 SpA and access to hazards in order to stave off passivity.

Flavor: Fernodon's remains shamble on for years after its death, blindly seeking out food until it can no longer move. Its body serves as a carrier for many pathogens, so other Pokemon that come into contact with it often end up ill.

The Rotten Tooth Pokémon
Each of its fangs contains a poisonous gland in its core. The poison eats away at the hard outside of its fangs, which is painful to it.
Its small size belies a potent venom which dissolves flesh and stinks like curdled milk. Its bright colors warn of its dangerous nature.

Notable Egg Moves: Mud Bomb from Arbok; Confuse Ray and Perish Song from Lapras; Parabolic Charge from Heliolisk; Poison Tail from Dragalge or Seviper; Nasty Plot from Hydreigon; Poison Jab and Belch from Seviper (Monster and Dragon)

Flavor/Design:
This bipedal creature somewhat resembles Charmander, but with a more slender, horizonfal body, longer digitigrade legs, and a longer serpentine neck. With a height of 2 feet, 5 inches and a weight of 16 pounds, it has dark purple patterning around its shoulders and upper back resembling a leather vest, with matching dark purple bands around the elbows and knees, the mottled edging resembling the markings of a Gila monster. Its long-snouted, somewhat Seviper-like head is magenta-colored with two mohawk-like crests on the top of its head; bright red with a dark purple edge, these bony structures are mainly used for display. Its lower body is also magenta, though the latter half of its tail is the same purple as the upper torso with an Ekans-like rattle on the end, except red-colored. It has three white claws on each hand and foot, the limbs being theropod-like in structure. There are two large fangs, white in color but tipped with dark purple like diseased teeth, protruding from the front of its upper jaw; two smaller but still sharp white fangs are also concealed near the front of the lower jaw. Its eyes are a vivid acid green with slitted pupils, with dark purple "eyeshadow" under them. Its tongue is the same green color as the eyes, and is forked like a snake. In the shiny sprite, the dark purple is replaced with black, the red with bright purple, the magenta with orange, and the green with yellow.

Evolves at Level 35 into...

The Toxic Tooth Pokémon
While Detriptile used its poison for defense, its evolution employs it to attack. It injects its venom through the rotten holes in its teeth, but can also spray it over a considerable distance.
Due to the constant pain in its fangs, it has a brash, nasty attitude. When it spreads its frills to show off their vivid patterns, that means it's agitated and about to unleash a vicious assault.

Stats: 70 HP/115 ATK/60 DEF/80 SP ATK/65 SP DEF/120 SPD = 510

Full Movepool: Acid, Acid Spray, Aerial Ace, Ancient Power, Belch, Bite, Blizzard, Body Slam, Breaking Swipe, Brick Break, Bulldoze, Charge Beam, Charm, Close Combat, Confuse Ray, Crunch, Double-Edge, Dragon Claw, Dragon Dance, Dragon Tail, Earth Power, Earthquake, Eerie Impulse, Endure, Energy Ball, Facade, False Swipe, Fire Blast, Fire Fang, Flame Charge, Flamethrower, Fling, Focus Blast, Foul Play, Giga Impact, Grassy Glide, Glare, Gunk Shot, Heat Wave, Helping Hand, Hyper Beam, Ice Beam, Ice Fang, Ice Spinner, Knock Off, Lash Out, Leer, Low Kick, Low Sweep, Lunge, Mean Look, Metal Claw, Meteor Beam, Mud Bomb, Mud Shot, Nasty Plot, Outrage, Parabolic Charge, Perish Song, Play Rough, Poison Fang, Poison Gas, Poison Jab, Poison Tail, Pounce, Power Gem, Protect, Psychic Fangs, Rest, Reversal, Roar, Rock Blast, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Sand Tomb, Sandstorm, Scary Face, Shadow Claw, Sleep Talk, Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Smack Down, Snarl, Solar Blade, Spite, Stealth Rock, Stomping Tantrum, Super Fang, Swords Dance, Take Down, Taunt, Temper Flare, Tera Blast, Throat Chop, Thunder Fang, Thunder Wave, Thunderbolt, Toxic, Toxic Spikes, Trailblaze, Triple Axel, U-turn, Upper Hand, Venoshock, Volt Switch, Waterfall, Wild Charge, Will-O-Wisp

Role:
Pernoxious is a swift and deadly predator that basically rides or dies on its Physical Attack and Speed stats. Though its Stench ability has the potential to stop incoming attacks with a flinch status and Merciless pairs well with the poisoning status often dealt by one of its STAB types, neithr are the most reliable abilities out there, so its best bet ability-wise is Sheer Force. With strong physical STAB attacks like Stone Edge, Rock Slide, Gunk Shot, and Cross Poison at its disposal, a Sheer Force attacking moveset will allow it to forego secondary effects in favor of absurd attack power, tearing through slower opponents like Meganium (Sonic), Rampardos, and Gourgeist-Ancient-Small that aren't prepared to see their type weaknesses to its strongest moves being brutally exploited. It also has a surprisingly wide variety of coverage options such as the Elemental Fang trio, Crunch, Throat Chop, Earthquake, Psychic Fangs, Brick Break, Play Rough, Trailblaze, Waterfall, Pounce, and Ice Spinner, allowing it to counter most if not all of the types that either wall its STAB moves (e.g. Steel-types, weak to Fire, Fighting and Ground) or types that can threaten it (e.g. Ground-types, weak to Grass, Water, and Ice). It's also fast enough to make good use of status moves like Stealth Rock, Toxic Spikes, Taunt, Glare, Thunder Wave, and Will-O-Wisp, and U-turn also allows it to serve as a high-speed scout that can leave quite a nasty sting as it makes its escape. Essentially, it fills a similar competitive role to Nihilego of the modern day, except that instead of special attacks, it's specialized for physical ones. Unlike Nihilego, however, Pernoxious is painfully lacking in Special Defense as well as physical Defense, and its hit-and-run tactics can be countered with good use of priority attacking moves or momentum-impeding statuses, paralysis and sleep in particular being the banes of its existence. As a specialized physical sweeper/cleaner with precious little in the way of HP, it doesn't appreciate the dual HP loss and physical Attack reduction from burns, either.

Flavor/Design:
Fully evolved, Pernoxious stands at 5 feet, 4 inches tall with a weight of 120 pounds, looking for all the world like a cross between a vintage theropod and a venomous serpent. It is normally bipedal, its spine mostly horizontal but with its egg-shaped torso and the first half of its longer tail slanting slightly downward so its long, three-clawed, Charizard-like arms almost touch the ground, but it can either rear up 'til its back is nearly vertical, propping itself on its tail to better aim its toxic spit. Its long, slender neck is flexible and serpentine, normally held in an upright S-curve so its head is held high; said head resembles a cross between those of Seviper and Aerodactyl, with an overall shape and eyes like the former and the lower jaw of the latter, saw-like fangs and all. The head itself is a dark grass-green with two enormous long fangs near the front of its upper jaw, shaped like Walrein's tusks more than anything else, but as with the pre-evolution they have a gradient to black towards the ends, and near the tip of each is a hole with a green interior, the outlet for its foul, caustic venom which it sprays when using Sludge Bomb or other projectile poison attacks. It has two dark green bony crests like punk mohawks on the top of its head, and on either side of the back of the head is a pair of membranous frills, normally folded flush against the neck and looking like a pinkish red side-stripe on each side, but capable of flaring out to a near-semicircular shape with jagged purplish black edges and a frightening pattern of several black eyespots with vivid acid-green centers; the slit-pupiled eyes and forked tongue are this same shade of light green as well. A row of three small red spikes runs down the back of the torso, four more such spikes form a ring around a "collar" of downy black fluff like a cartoon vulture at the base of its neck, and two more jut from its wrists like Lucario's arm-spikes. The powerful back legs are bird-like with three clawed toes on its long, slender, digitigrade feet, whose dark green color all the way up to the ankle gives the impression of knee-high boots, with the hand and foot claws being white in color; the forearms and hands are also dark green to invoke leather gloves. The front half of its torso and its upper arms are covered in fluffy black down like the neck ruff, which along with the spiked "collar" invokes a punk leather jacket. The remaining body color is maroon, and on both the neck and tail are patterns of three bands, the outer two being green and the middle one being black; the end of the tail also has a green band and then a black one before ending with red and the dragon-like tail sting.

The shiny palette replaces the maroon with bright red, the red with purple, and the green with yellow, giving it an overall look like an eastern coral snake, which the patterning for this 'mon was partly inspired by.

The original version of this design was previously submitted to the art subs for Create-A-Pokémon #21. Details here!

The Poltroon Pokémon
A rare, skittish Pokémon that lives in faraway places. They used to be abundant in the wild, but humans thought they had a special power and captured them in huge numbers, nearly wiping them all out.
Rumors exist of a Timidon that overcame its extreme cowardice and grew to a massive size instead of evolving. Some trainers have tried to replicate this feat with their own Timidons, to little success.

Flavor: A small, cowardly, lizard-like creature found on only a few scattered subtropical islands in the Pokémon world, Timidon is based on the very oldest depictions of Iguanodon as being a literal iguana with what would later be identified as its thumb spikes being shown as a small horn on its nose. Essentially, it's a stylized iguana, but instead of the standard green iguana, it's instead based on a Galápagos land iguana (Conolophus subcristatus), with a squat, stocky body and a row of short, conical spines down its neck and back; the short nasal horn and the enlarged, dagger-like claws on the innermost toes of its front feet (the rest of its toes, three per back foot and four per front foot, are clawless) are arguably the only things distinguishing it from the real animal - even its color scheme is similar to Charles Darwin's unflattering account of the species it's based on, "of a yellowish orange beneath, and of a brownish-red colour above", along with a bluish-black band and tip to its tail, dirty white thumb claws, and yellow-orange spines and horn; its shiny instead has a pink topside like the critically endangered Galápagos pink land iguana (Conolophus marthae). The white eyes have a permanent "crying" look to them, indicating its cowardly "whipped dog"-like demeanor, and some have suggested that its kind experienced a lot of harm at the hands of greedy people in the past, which is why it's terrified of humans to this day. The fact that it looks almost unchanged from the real animal except for a few "prehistoric" bits and bobs tacked on is a reference to not only Gideon Mantell's restoration of Iguanodon as a literal iguana except for the nose horn, but also the ethically dubious practice of "slurpasaurs", lizards or other small reptiles decorated with fake fins, spikes or horns and "enlarged" via film trickery to (try to) pass them off as dinosaurs.

The Audacious Pokémon
Loud and proud, Brazenodon flaunts its newfound strength with reckless abandon, picking fights even with opponents that are much stronger than itself. Anything that hurts its ego is treated to a savage beating.
With its upright stance and upturned thumb spikes, its air of confidence often leads it to overestimate its combat prowess. In defense of its friends, however, it will keep fighting fiercely until it can no longer move.

Level-Up Moves: Same as Timidon, but can also learn Aura Sphere upon evolving into this form.
Notable TMs: Same as Timidon.

Flavor: Now based on historical Iguanodon restorations that took into account newer fossil material of this animal, Brazenodon has a tripodal stance with its tail dragging on the ground, and while it still retains the same color scheme as its predecessor, its body shape differs significantly. Notably, its arms are shorter than its legs, though not by much, but they're still very muscular with large, sharp thumb spikes, the creature holding its hands with their palms facing inwards and the fingers clenched to form a double "thumbs-up" gesture. The neck and head are both a bit smaller but also more elongated than Timidon's, the latter looking almost horse-like aside from the long lizard-like mouth, whose corners are downturned in a perpetual scowl. The nasal horn, which was yellow-orange as a Timidon, has broadened from front-to-back to become a short crest on the snout, akin to a swollen nose, and is now bluish black as though its muzzle has been bruised. Its eyelids and a patch around each fierce-looking, triangular white eye are also blue-black like its tail bands (of which it has two now instead of one) to suggest two black eyes. The ridge of small spikes down the back is yellow-orange like the belly, the thumb spikes are off-white, and its forearms have black bands near the wrists suggesting cuffs. Overall, it's styled not only on the old upright Iguanodon restorations but also a brash but inexperienced pit fighter, and while the previous stage is a complete novice who has no idea what to do in a fight except make a run for it, Brazenodon is the complete opposite, attacking anything it considers a threat with jabs of its thumb spikes and lashes of its strong tail - a far cry indeed from the tired trope of ornithopods being nothing but peaceful cannon fodder.

This line is a deliberate counterpart to the Larvitar line, which will become clearer once it evolves, but thematically it's also based on the idea of a newbie in martial arts eventually becoming an expert with enough time and practice, as well as the progression of growth from a scared child (Timidon) to a fiercely overconfident adolescent (Brazenodon) and finally a somewhat better-adjusted adult. Notice also that unlike Pupitar, Brazenodon actually becomes more active upon evolving, leaning far more into the physical than special side in terms of both offense and defense.

Evolves at Level 55 into...

The Resolute Pokémon
With its powerful arms, it can level a mountain with a single punch, but their great weight forces it to walk on all fours. When it rears up and brandishes its spiked thumbs, be careful - that means it's about to attack!
In spite of its fierce appearance, it prefers to dig up metal ores for food. It fiercely confronts any threat regardless of personal risk; the more scars from such battles it has, the more respect it earns from its peers.

Role: Intrepidon has pseudo-legendary-like stats because Iguanodon was one of the very first dinosaurs to have been discovered and named, so I knew I had to make a fakemon based on it extra-special. I designed it as a deliberate diametric opposite to Tyranitar but since the latter is already a physical tank, which I also intended Intrepidon to be at first, I decided to make it a much faster but frailer mixed attacker so I could also distinguish it from Brawlutra, cutting down on its physical stats and HP in favor of added Special Attack and Speed. Whereas Pupitar loses its Ground typing (in favor of Dark) upon evolving into Tyranitar, Brazenodon instead trades its Rock typing for a different type (Steel in this case), and with such devastating moves as Earthquake, High Horsepower, Earth Power, Meteor Mash, and Flash Cannon, it may not get to hit very often but when it does, the results can be catastrophic. Coverage includes a number of Rock-type moves to counter Flying- and Ice-types, Close Combat to deal with Ice-types, Poison Jab in case of Grass, Ice Punch for other Ground-types, Thunder Punch for Water, and Dark-type attacks like Throat Chop and Dark Pulse just for the heck of it, meaning it has a variety of options and is only limited by having only four moveslots. With all of that being said, however, Intrepidon is not as tough as it looks despite its hefty HP stat, and its only two recovery moves being Drain Punch and Rest means you can't just use it to obliterate everything in front of you willy-nilly. With careful planning and skilled prediction, however, Intrepidon can still shine as a wallbreaker and revenge-killer that can throw hands with equally ferocious adversaries and clear the way for bulkier teammates, and though faster opponents like Alticombat and Crobat (Ancient) can quickly overpower it, by the time it goes down it will more than likely have managed to weaken at least one especially strong opponent just enough for a more effective counter to switch in and finish the job.

Flavor: The final stage of this line is a modern Iguanodon styled like a grizzled war veteran, now rust-red in color with a pleated, "armored suit"-like look to its hide; its neck and head are now a golden yellow as is its belly (the shiny has a dark steel-gray back, upper limbs, and tail). A facultative biped, its massive muscular arms, almost resembling Popeye's, end with red forepaws like boxing gloves that bear its weight on their knuckles like a gorilla, and all of its digits now sport silver-colored spikes, though the ones on the fingers jut from the knuckles instead of where the claws would be; these it uses brass-knuckle style to clobber opponents into submission, reserving the thumb spikes themselves for the coup-de-grace. The spikes running down the back are also gold in color, having enlarged into a ridge of small plates like a stereotypical cartoon dinosaur. The crest on its snout is now bright red and has expanded into a large, rounded lump akin to the high, arched nasal cavity of the related Muttaburrasaurus, and this joins smoothly with the blunt, tortoise-like beak on the end of the upper jaw, suggesting the swollen nose and upper lip one might get after being socked in the face. It has more serene-looking but still confident white eyes than its predecessor, and its mouth is shorter to suggest the cheek flaps ornithopods likely had, but now sports a heroic smile. The "black eye" markings on its face along with its arm bands and tail stripes remain (the tail has three stripes now along with a black tip), but there's also an extra band in front of each elbow, one around the middle of the torso, and one around each ankle, with the forearms and feet being the same color as the belly - the color pattern suggests a martial arts outfit with a black belt. Finally, the dark red part of its hide sports a lot of stripes shaped like those of Mega Sharpedo and colored the same shade of lighter red as its nose, breaking up the otherwise plain body colors and giving it a heavily battle-scarred appearance.

I originally considered giving this final form a sail on its back like on the also-related Ouranosaurus (whose name translates to "brave lizard" by way of the Arabic word for both valor and the desert monitor), but a friend and fellow fakemon designer already used that idea. I thought about adding the sail anyway but Intrepidon seems fine without one, at least to me, so I ultimately decided that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Flavor: These guys are known for having basically oppposable thumbs and being able to be bipedal when they want to, representing an important step in evolution between old dinos and the big bipedal ones that follow. Naturally obviously this means that they have superhuman intelligence and are psychic beings. So these ones apply that to a scale we know, Dinos figuring out how to use tools and allat. Theyre still big bulky dinos, but hunched over with a staff. Various forms of early technology encompasses their rough hide, with thick patches and patterning resembling early armor, various "tool blades" (just slits of metal) available for use along the sides of their arms and such. All of their coverage and such is based off the things that humans learned to harness in their early days and development.

Due to the low sub volume this slate, vetoes are going to double as a review of every submission. While you only have to changed your submission if it is marked as VETOED, everyone will be able to change all of their submissions during the next 24 hours, and new submissions may be created.

Role: Multi-hitting Technician mon who can alternatively run Shell Smash Power Trip.
Flavor: Oviraptor was known as the egg thief, so Lecithaptor is a bandit who wears its own eggshell Ala Togepi.
The first thing I notice with this mon is that it shares a typing with Crobat-Ancient. While they do different things, I'm not a fan of type overlap in such a small meta if it can be avoided. Aside from that, non-Smash sets on this will be totally unviable, as its offenses are far too low for this meta. Smash sets are gimmicky due to Lecithaptor's low Speed and bulk, though Power Trip and Technician-boosted Bone Rush are extremely strong STABs, making this mon very matchup fishy overall. While it's not vetoed, I think this mon could do with a complete rework.

Role: Fulfilling the niche of a more bulky Ground-type who can counter some of the Grass-types (& Skeledirge) running a bit rampant in the meta.
Flavor: Iguanodon is best known as related to hadrosaurs and for its big thumbs. Aquanopalm is known for its massive, gloved hands that helps it shred through the foliage it feeds on in its muddy territory.
You would have to make a defensive mon with no weaknesses have some major flaws in order to not be too strong, and that's not what you've done here, as this mon gets every tool it needs and then some. It also doesn't even beat Skeledirge due to being physically offensive, as it'll do maybe 35% with uninvested High Horsepower and get Wisped immediately after. This mon is VETOED, please rework its abilities by removing Unaware (we already have one broken Unaware mon, we don't need another) and either replacing Sap Sipper or gutting its defensive profile.

Role: Utility Piece with high speed and also a big move in Pixilate Boomburst.
Flavor: simply enough: Oviraptor that serves a Chansey / Audino-esque purpose. Basically an opposite day-Oviraptor. Pixilate because originally fairy.
I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but STAB Boomburst is stronger than Pixilate Boomburst, and running Pixilate removes all ability to run one of your STABs, so people will most likely be running Natural Cure on this. Besides that, this mon looks good, offering a lot of utility and good offensive pressure at the expense of a fairly weak defensive typing and mediocre bulk.

Name: Hemlophosaur (Hemlock + Dilophosaurus)
Prompt: Dilophosaurus
Typing: Poison / Grass
Abilities: Chlorophyll / Poison Point (Merciless)

Role: An offensively-oriented Pokemon that uses Poison Fang, Hemlock Hit, or Toxic to set up its Merciless ability. Can also function as a sweeper with Dragon Dance.
Flavor: green Dilophosaurus with white Hemlock petals around its neck. Because I thought it was cool conceptually. Originally had a signature ability called "Combustant".

*Hemlock Hit - Grass Type, Physical, 85 BP, 100% Accuracy, 32 PP, Contact-based. Affected by Mirror Move. 30% chance to Poison.
This mon is unnecessarily handicapped by not having access to strong STAB options like Gunk Shot and Power Whip. While I understand not giving it Power Whip in order to have it use its signature move, I think at least giving it Gunk Shot would allow it to be viable without taking attention away from its Merciless gimmick.

Name Origin: Pernicious + Noxious
Prompt: Dilophosaurus
Type: Poison/Rock
Abilities: Merciless (HA Stench)
Stats: 60 HP/90 ATK/75 DEF/90 SP ATK/75 SP DEF/120 SPD = 510
Level-Up Moves: Same as Detriptile, but with added starting moves Glare, Astonish, and Rock Slide, and added moves Cross Poison (51), Stone Edge (55), and Belch (60).
Notable TMs: Same as Detriptile.

Role:
Gifted with more balanced offensive stats and a much-needed boost of speed, Pernoxious is now a swift and deadly predator, better built to capitalize upon its ability to spread debuffs and cause mass chaos. Though its Stench ability still has the potential to stop incoming attacks with a flinch status, it was previously noted to be unreliable, and so its best bet ability-wise is Merciless. Since its physical attack is now an even match with its special, strong physical attacks like Crunch, Brutal Swing, Gunk Shot, and Cross Poison are now at its disposal. Its increased speed also makes it far better at using status moves like Taunt, Thunder Wave, Stealth Rock, Encore, and especially Toxic, the latter of which works alongside Merciless to enable it to unleash a venomous assault on one unlucky target... so long as its prey isn't immune to poison status. Steel-types especially remain a problem as they can wall its Poison attacks while hitting it super-effectively, but they aren't too much of an issue now that it can make good use of Earthquake. Its biggest concern though, and its only type weakness, is Ground-types and, alas, it still has no means of taking them on and will be unable to use Volt Switch to flee from them, forcing it to rely on U-turn which is more easily resisted despite its own utility... that, and its general fraility means it'll probably go down to a single Earthquake anyway.
First off, fix your movepools. I (and by extension, the coder) should not have to hunt through your sub's various tabs and assume what "Universal Moves" are (this is a fanmade term, so there's no official list) in order to write out your mon's movepool. You can keep the distinction between Level-Up, Egg Moves, and TMs if you want that flavor, but we need you to put a full, written-out list of every move somewhere. Look at the formatting other submissions use if you want examples of how that should look.
Getting to the mon itself, this is unviable. It has no way of hitting Grounds, and its terrible bulk makes finding setup opportunities difficult. Special sets are inferior to Physical sets (and are outclassed by Moscourge regardless), so looking at SD, I don't see any reason to run this over existing options like Alticombat, Gourgeist-Ancient-Small, and Rampardos, as its stats and coverage are worse in all departments. Merciless is a difficult ability to use well, particularly when some of your best defensive counterplay cannot be Poisoned, so it doesn't really impact my rating here. In my opinion, this mon needs a major facelift in order to be viable. This sub is VETOED for the above movepool issues, but I recommend changing its other features as well.

Name: Intrepidon (Intrepid + Iguanodon)
Prompt: Iguanodon
Typing: Ground/Fighting
Abilities: Iron Fist/Sap Sipper
Stats: 120 HP/134 ATK/115 DEF/85 SP ATK/90 SP DEF/56 SPD = 600
Level-Up Moves: Same as Brazenodon, but with added starting moves Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Fire Punch, and Hammer Arm.
Notable TMs: Same as Timidon and Brazenodon, with the additions of Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Role: Intrepidon has pseudo-legendary-like stats because Iguanodon was one of the very first dinosaurs to have been discovered and named, so I knew I had to make a fakemon based on it extra-special. I designed it as a deliberate diametric opposite to Tyranitar but since the latter is already a physical tank, which I also intended Intrepidon to be, the only solution I could think of was to minmax its stats, cutting down on its special stats and Speed in favor of added physical bulk. Whereas Pupitar loses its Ground typing in favor of Dark upon evolving into Tyranitar, Brazenodon instead trades its Rock typing for Fighting, and with two excellent attacking types and such devastating moves as Earthquake, High Horsepower, Hammer Arm, and Close Combat, it may not get to hit very often but when it does, the results can be catastrophic. Coverage includes a number of Rock-type moves to counter Flying- and Ice-types, Metal Claw to deal with Fairy-types, Poison Jab in case of Grass, Thunder Punch for Water, and several physical Dark-type attacks to take care of Psychic- and Ghost-types, meaning it has a variety of options and is only limited by having only four moveslots. With Swords Dance it can become even more destructive but giving it that forces you to sacrifice a coverage move and worry about even more opponents that can exploit the type weaknesses it can't handle, though a fun alternative could be an Assault Vest set with four attacking moves; I'd personally go with Stone Edge and Throat Chop to cover as many type disadvantages as possible with two coverage types alone. I bring this up because Intrepidon actually has worse Special Defense and Speed than Tyranitar does because of its more offensively-oriented typing, and its only recovery options being Drain Punch, Rest, and running Sap Sipper and switching it into a Grass-type attack means you can't just use it to obliterate everything in front of you willy-nilly. With careful planning and skilled prediction, however, Intrepidon can still shine as a wallbreaker and revenge-killer that can throw hands with equally physically durable adversaries and clear the way for faster teammates, and its lack of staying power can even be turned into a strength of sorts if, by the time it goes down, it's managed to weaken an especially strong opponent just enough for a more effective counter to switch in and finish the job.
This sub is VETOED for the same reason as your first submission, but let me also talk about the mon itself. The biggest issue I see here is that Intrepidon majorly overlaps with existing mon Brawlutra, doing most of its roles better while also being much bulkier on the special side. While Brawlutra is an admittedly weak mon in the current meta, I don't see a way for this submission and even a buffed version of Brawlutra to coexist in the meta without one eating away at the viability of the other. I highly recommend using a typing other than Ground/Fighting, or somehow differentiating this mon's role from Brawlutra (who serves as a Physical Tank, a Setup mon with Bulk Up, and a Choice Scarfer).

Reminder to finish your mon's movepool in the next 24 hours, as all movepool changes will be in the hands of council once the mon wins. As-is, This mon seems quite strong, specifically with offensive Calm Mind sets, as its bulk is exceptional and its coverage movepool is rather deep. I'd be careful with adding anything stronger than the moves you've listed for coverage, as they could very easily push this mon over the edge. I'd also like to request that you remove Will-O-Wisp - there are a LOT of Burn spreaders in the current meta, and adding more will just make it even more difficult for Burn-weak Physical attackers to make progress.

For those of you whose submissions were vetoed, you have 24 hours to fix them before voting begins. As for everyone else, you have the same amount of time if you'd like to change your submissions or add new ones. If you have any balancing questions or anything else related to your submissions, feel free to ping me on the Discord or PM me here, and I'll be sure to get back to you with my thoughts.

This sub is VETOED for the same reason as your first submission, but let me also talk about the mon itself. Looking through the existing 'mon sheet is something I should've done so much sooner, and I can only apologize for that. To this end, I've not only redone the playstyle for the final stages of both of my submissions but also reformatted the Movepool section for said final stages to match the format of other submissions I saw on this slate.

As for the 'mon playstyle facelifts, Pernoxious is now a very fast physical attacker with very low defenses (a role currently occupied only by Archeops AFAIK), but a wide variety of coverage moves and a more usable ability included to further boost its damage output. Intrepidon's typing meanwhile has been changed to Ground/Steel, and I've re-statted it as a fast but frail mixed attacker that can hit hard on both the physical and special fronts (a playstyle which I don't believe we have in this mod just yet); to further distinguish it from Brawlutra (and Excadrill as well), I also made defenses quite low for something with eight resistances and two immunities, so hopefully that balances things out as well.

Feel free to share your thoughts on the winners! And while you're here, we have another announcement: more balance changes!

:archeops: Archeops
85 / 120 / 85 / 92 / 65 / 110 --> 85 / 110 / 85 / 92 / 65 / 110

:skeledirge: Skeledirge-Ancient
104 / 75 / 75 / 110 / 100 / 66 --> 104 / 85 / 75 / 100 / 100 / 66

:tauros-paldea-blaze: Tauros-Ancestor
100 / 65 / 85 / 55 / 80 / 105 --> 100 / 60 / 85 / 60 / 80 / 105

These are fairly small changes overall, but the goal here is to slightly detune a few of the meta's stronger offensive threats in order to level the playing field for weaker options who have been struggling to keep up for a while now. The current plan is to take a break from slates from a bit, as we would like to submit this mod for PMPL. However, to do that we'll need a lot of playtesting and we'll need to make resources, so any help with playtesting in the coming days would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your participation, and we'll see you in the next slate!

Hello everyone! For those of you not in the Discord, Slate 12 is coded and playable, and we've been getting in plenty of test games in order to prepare for our PMPL submission. If any of you would like to help test, any extra sets of eyes on the tier would be very valuable in ensuring good balance, so please join the Discord in order to find battles!

In other news, I have a small set of changes to announce! We didn't want to do anything too crazy so close to PMPL, but a few mons in the meta are very clearly underpowered, so we wanted to make a few tweaks in order to give them a chance to shine in tournament.

:arctovish: Arctobyss
Permafrost raises Def instead of SpD.

Arctobyss struggles a bit in the current meta, mainly because it's just a bit too slow to set up while being so easily threatened by top mons like Archeops and Crobat-Ancient. One thing that could help this is changing Permafrost to now boost Defense, as this pairs extremely well with Calm Mind and can potentially flip your matchups into mons like Archeops and Ungabunguss completely.

:bellibolt: Bellibolt-Twisted
Water Absorb replaces Dry Skin

Belli has struggled to make use of its defensive profile in the current meta, suffering from crippling matchups into key threats like Archeops, Yizolt, and Crobat-Ancient. With all of those already rough matchups, it seems unfair for Bellibolt to also be given an unnecessary Fire weakness, so its main ability has been changed.

:heliolisk: Heliolisk-Ancient
+Double-Edge

Heliolisk's biggest problem is immediate damage output. While the combination of Fire Lash and Body Slam can be great at wallbreaking if Helio is given a couple free turns, the mon just doesn't have enough offensive pressure as soon as it's sent out, making it difficult to make progress with in most games. Double-Edge gives you a clear wallbreaking tool for neutral targets while keeping the matchups with key defensive answers such as Skeledirge and Carriguana unchanged.

:meganium: Meganium-Sonic
+Earth Power

Meganium is burdened with a terrible matchup into Skeledirge-Ancient, one of the meta's top mons. This makes it extremely hard for the supposedly unwallable breaker to make any sort of progress, as Unaware completely shuts down Meganium's whole gameplan. Earth Power provides a noticeable damage increase into Skeledirge compared to Boomburst, while also giving stronger coverage into other mons like Venopleura and Dracomizer.

:bastiodon::sigilyph: Bastiodon & Sigilyph-Ancient
Petroglyph now has a 100% chance to raise SpA by 1.

Both of these mons are historically underpowered, and while Bastiodon has shown some promise in recent games, this buff most certainly will not push it over the edge. Petroglyph as it currently exists is an extremely inconsistent move, as neither Bastiodon nor Sigilyph-Ancient really have the staying power to fish for that 50% chance. With 100%, the SpA boost is now guaranteed, removing RNG and making Petroglyph a much easier click for both of its abusers.

These will most likely be the last changes before PMPL, so look forward for our mod submission post (featuring new resources like Sample Teams and a VR!). If you would like to help test, we would love to have you, so please do join the Discord. Anyway, that's all from me, so I hope to see you all in PMPL.

Hello chat. ana told me I should do Paleo tour game recaps so I am going to do that :blobthumbsup:

Week 1

:lurantis::skeledirge::kabutops::bastiodon::armaldo::archeops:SEA vs THE_CHUNGLER:sceptile::cyclizar::lurantis::tyrantrum::kabutops::scream-tail:
SEA brings a pretty standard squad featuring a lot of known goodmons as well as Cardantis (who was definitely underrated in the pre-tour VR), while THE_CHUNGLER starts the tour off strong with cheese screens HO. CHUNGLER leads Nurturaptor and gets dual screens up while SEA pivots into Bastiodon and starts setting up. CHUNGLER goes Kabutops to try and force Bastio out, but gets greedy with a Meteor Beam and dies to EP in return. CHUNGLER then goes Tyrantrum and fails to secure the kill on Bastio with Iron Head, but a lucky flinch bails them out of losing a second mon to the fat dino.
SEA then goes out to Armaldo, preserving the critical health Bastio and stonewalling Tyrantrum. CHUNGLER goes for yet another greedy setup move, clicking Scale Shot on Maldo and taking a chunk from U-Turn, but is forced out into Cardantis by SEA's Archeops. After Maldo comes in and takes a clean 13% from Double-Edge, CHUNGLER goes Nurturaptor to try and refresh screens. However, SEA has all the momentum and is able to knock out Nurturaptor before it can even move by revealing Scarf Archeops. CHUNGLER then goes Icaruff to set up on the choicelocked Archeops, however SEA has a Skeledirge in the back, which stonewalls standard CM Icaruff. This is no standard CM Icaruff though, as CHUNGLER reveals Encore on SEA's Slack off, forcing SEA to sack Bastiodon to prevent the Icaruff from snowballing.
SEA then goes Archeops to revenge with Stone Edge. However, Archeops misses the second Stone Edge, leaving Icaruff alive to kill it in return. Dirge comes back in, killing Tyrantrum on the switch with Dragon Pulse. CHUNGLER then brings out Cardantis, claiming a kill on Dirge with a lucky Double-Edge crit before dying to recoil. While this battle was absolutely full of luck for THE_CHUNGLER, I do want to point out that in this case SEA was risking a 3HKO by not clicking Slack Off on turn 21, so while the crit did remove any low-roll RNG, it wasn't necessary for the kill. SEA then brings out Kabutops on CHUNGLER's Hemlophosaur, doing 75% with a Blood Stream crit before swapping out to Armaldo. After a few turns of Armaldo being unable to outdamage Synthesis+Leftovers (yes, Leftovers on a Poison type) and Hemlophosaur setting up with Dragon Dance, CHUNGLER finds out the hard way that Armaldo is very fat, as it takes only 35% from a +2 Gunk Shot, and is forced to switch out to Icaruff. SEA goes Cardantis on the Calm Mind, but is OHKOd by +1 Soul Wind, and from there the game is over.
Overall, while THE_CHUNGLER brought some interesting tech in Calm Mind+Encore Icaruff and used it to their advantage against SEA, the main factor in the win here was RNG. SEA likely won the game on the spot if both Stone Edges hit, and while the Skeledirge sack was a bit questionable, I can understand not being as focused after having the win torn from your hands by plain dumb luck.

:skeledirge::armaldo::kabutops::scolipede::lapras::hawlucha:Beaf Cultist vs jawabarat:sigilyph::gourgeist::bastiodon::hawlucha::archeops::scream-tail:
I bring standard balance while jawabarat loads GTerrain offense. I lead Armaldo into jaw's Archeops, which is revealed to be a suicide hazard lead set with Taunt and Focus Sash. Armaldo takes Arch down while it sets Rocks, then jaw brings in Icaruff.
I already saw the SEA game so I know this is likely CM+Encore, so I go Lapras rather than Skeledirge on the Calm Mind and click Perish Song. Icaruff gets major damage on Lapras and chunks the Dirge switchin, but is eventually forced to switch out to Bastiodon. I go Armaldo while jaw goes Gourgeist, then I U-Turn out as jaw swaps into Icaruff, revealing Grassy Seed as its item. I go Venopleura on the Calm Mind, hoping to get a Poison Touch proc with Wild Charge. Unfortunately, PTouch doesn't proc, and Veno takes massive damage from Boomburst, forcing me to swap into Dirge. Dirge gets off a Will-O-Wisp but gets Encored, forcing Dirge out into Venopleura, who dies to Boomburst.
I then spend a few turns struggling to pivot around +1 Icaruff, letting Burn chip rack up but also losing Lapras in the process, before eventually Icaruff is low enough for me to finish it off with Dragon Pulse. Bastio comes in once again and I go Armaldo on the Petroglyph, forcing it out into Gourgeist. Gourgeist reveals a physically offensive set with Wood Hammer, so I go out to Dirge expecting to get a free Slack Off. However, jaw reveals they're running Explosion Gourgeist, killing my weakened Skeledirge.
We then both go Alticombat, with jawabarat's being a GSeed set. I then lose the Speed tie, with my Alti getting blown up by Acrobatics. I just wanna say, I was running Band, so Acro would have killed if I won the 50/50. I then go Kabutops, missing a Hydro Pump (which also would have killed) before dying to Acro, and at that point there's nothing I can do.
Overall, I really struggled to play around CM+Encore Icaruff even knowing it was coming, but I nearly managed to pull through until some unfortunate hax at the end sealed my fate.

:omastar::carracosta::gourgeist::skeledirge::lapras::bastiodon:Spammernoob vs Hats:gourgeist::hawlucha::cyclizar::meganium::rampardos::bastiodon:
Spammernoob brings a very bulky squad, featuring strong walls like Carracosta and Omastar, while Hats brings GTerrain offense. Hats leads Gourgeist to set GTerrain, while Spammernoob leads Omastar, forcing Gourgeist out and setting up a Future Sight on the Bastiodon switchin. Spammernoob goes Carracosta and Knocks Bastio's Leftovers, and a couple Gunk Shots plus the Future Sight knock Bastiodon out before it can snowball with Petroglyph.
Hats then goes Alticombat, revealing a Grassy Seed SD set, but Spammernoob stonewalls it with a combination of Omastar and Skeledirge. Hats goes out into Rampardos, hoping to punch a hole in Spammernoob's perfect defense, but a couple unfortunate Stone Edge misses put a damper on that plan. Hats then goes Nurturaptor, revealing an offensive set that unfortunately can't do anything into Spammernoob's Carracosta. Rampardos is then brought in, only to miss two more Stone Edges before dying to Omastar's Scald. After Ramp dies, the rest of Hats' team loses to Carracosta, so Spammernoob brings it in and cleans up the rest of the field.
Definitely some very unfortunate luck for Hats in this battle as well. Rampardos was really their only way of breaking through Spammernoob's defensive core, and while good play from Spammernoob could definitely have still cleaned house, those Stone Edge misses made it a whole lot easier.

Overall a very hax-heavy Week 1. I was very happy to see a diversity of playstyles this week, but hopefully things get a bit better on the RNG front in Week 2 (spoilers: they do).

Week 2

:bastiodon::archeops::kabutops::armaldo::aerodactyl::skeledirge:THE_CHUNGLER vs Hats:kabutops::tyrantrum::runerigus::archeops::lapras::scream-tail:
Both players brought pretty standard balance squads this week, though THE_CHUNGLER brought the first Aerodactyl we've seen so far in the tour, and Hats brought the first Carriguana. Hats leads Kabutops while CHUNGLER leads Archeops. Hats switches to Carriguana to avoid losing Kabu, while CHUNGLER U-Turns out to Aerodactyl. Hats goes Lapras while Aero Wisps, then Lapras gets huge chip on Aero thanks to Rough Skin + Rocky Helmet on its U-Turn, while also knocking the AV off the Kabutops switching in.
After some pivoting around, CHUNGLER's Archeops reveals Switcheroo, giving its Band away to Carriguana. Both players pivot around some more, then Hats' Kabutops finds itself in on CHUNGLER's Bastiodon. CHUNGLER tries to take Kabu out with Petroglyph+Earth Power, but misses the KO and is brought to low health by Scald. Knowing Hats' Kabu switchins are both chipped pretty heavily at this point, CHUNGLER goes to their own Kabutops and starts clicking buttons, Some expert pivoting on Hats' part gets their Kabutops back to healthy without getting boned by Earth Power, but the exchange is unfortunately capped by them forgetting CHUNGLER's Kabutops is at +1 Speed from Rapid Spin, and they throw their Archeops away to Scald.
Hats brings in Tyrantrum in the hopes of setting up, but Armaldo comes in on the Dragon Dance and forces it out. A few turns later, Hats manages to finish off CHUNGLER's Bastiodon at the expense of some health on Kabutops, potentially opening up their Icaruff for a lategame sweep. CHUNGLER goes to Kabutops and Hats sacks Lapras, then their Tyrantrum gets big chip on the Armaldo switchin with Draconic Rend. Both teams reposition a bit, then CHUNGLER reveals an interesting tech - Encore Skeledirge. This is a really cool idea, as it should beat Encore Icaruff pretty consistently, or at least force it into very predictable plays. In this case, Dirge uses it to prevent Kabutops from getting chip with Earth Power, and Carriguana is forced in to die to a Torch Song.
Tyrantrum comes in and once again gets major chip on Armaldo with Draconic Rend - if this exchange happens one more time, Armaldo is going to be knocked out, so CHUNGLER is on a timer here. CHUNGLER goes Aerodactyl to double up on Intimidate drops, taking huge chip from another Draconic Rend in the process. After a few more turns of positioning, Hats gets Tyrantrum in again, Dragon Dancing and finishing off Armaldo with a Crunch. Aerodactyl comes in to force it out for now, and CHUNGLER then goes Dirge to start breaking with Torch Song. Kabutops takes hits from Dirge like a champ though, and CHUNGLER is forced to sack Archeops when Hats pivots into Tyrantrum on a predicted Slack Off. A few turns later, CHUNGLER manages to get Kabutops in and at +1 Speed again, bringing Icaruff down to critical health and KOing Hats' Kabutops before dying in return. Aerodactyl finishes off Icaruff with U-Turn, and Skeledirge goes down to Hats' Tyrantrum, but at this point Tyrantrum has taken too much LO chip, and Aero is able to finish it off with U-Turn, winning CHUNGLER the game.
This was a very close match. Hats' Tyrantrum did absolutely insane work for their team, keeping CHUNGLER off-balance for most of the match, but CHUNGLER's controlled sacks into Tyrantrum as well as good piloting of their Kabutops ended up getting them the win.

:dracovish::carracosta::armaldo::kabutops::archeops::scolipede:Spammernoob vs jawabarat:heliolisk::kabutops::archeops::armaldo::aerodactyl::meganium:
Another balance v balance match, seemingly all the HO players have cooled off since last week. The main standouts here are Spammernoob bringing the first Swishivish so far and jawabarat bringing Heliolisk and Meganium, which are both somewhat weak Electrics that might be underrated. Spammer leads Swishivish into jaw's Meganium, flipping out into Carracosta and showing the main issue with Meganium, as EP only does 34% (sidenote - Boomburst actually does slightly more than EP into Carracosta and Skeledirge thanks to Punk Rock). Spammernoob goes back to Swishivish, probably predicting another EP or a switch, however Meganium clicks Volt Switch, OHKOing. This might look like a pointless sack from Spammer, but jaw had actually forgotten that Costa is immune to Electric with Leatherback, which was why they clicked VS.
Spammernoob makes some progress with Knock and Spikes, then jawabarat manages to bring Heliolisk in on Kabu, forcing it out into Venopleura. Veno eats the Double-Edge with ease though, so jaw is forced to go back to pivoting around. A few turns later, Spammernoob has Venopleura in on jawabarat's Aerodactyl, and jaw elects to click Poltergeist, getting a very lucky crit which knocks out Veno. Spammer brings out Archeops and 2HKOs the Armaldo switchin with Stone Edge before being forced out by jaw's own Archeops, who tricks its Scarf onto the Armaldo switch.
Some switching around leads to jaw's Aero getting major chip on Armaldo with Poltergeist, then Spammer goes into Carracosta while jawabarat goes Meganium. This is when we find out jaw forgot what Leatherback does, as they click Volt Switch into Carracosta again, this time with Spammernoob staying in and revealing they're running Curse. jaw has nothing for this with both Defenses raised, so they're forced to sack both Meganium and Aerodactyl in order to take it out with Destiny Bond (cool tech btw). From there though, jaw's squad is crippled, and Spammernoob makes quick work of the rest of the team with Kabutops and Archeops.
Another cool game. The Veno crit didn't end up mattering (and neither did the Stone Edge misses I didn't mention), but what did matter are the interesting sets both Spammernoob and jawabarat brought, so really cool stuff from both parties there. Maybe check what the custom abilities do next time though, jaw...

:heliolisk::bastiodon::kabutops::lurantis::armaldo::hawlucha:Beaf Cultist vs SEA:armaldo::bastiodon::kabutops::hawlucha::aggron::brute-bonnet:
Ok so like, I know I said Helio was underrated, but it's still crazy that two people brought it in the same week. That being said, this is the third balance mirror of the week, with me bringing funni lizard and SEA repping another underrated mon in Pesbasil (as well as bringing the first Ungabunguss, though that one's a known goodmon that just didn't show up in Week 1). Anyway, I lead Armaldo while SEA leads Kabutops. SEA likely expected a defensive set here and elects to stay in (either Flipping out if they were more defensive or maybe going for the kill if they had the power for it), however I reveal Scarf Armaldo, claiming a quick turn 1 kill with Earthquake.
SEA then brings out Armaldo so I go into Cardantis looking to set hazards. However, SEA U-Turns into Alticombat, forcing me out into Armaldo. I assume SEA was probably bluffing Band here, though even if she wasn't I still assumed it was anyway lol, so I stayed in and knocked the Armaldo switch's Leftovers. I then go into my own Alticombat as SEA U-Turns into Bastiodon. I go for a bit of a prediction as I figure SEA won't respect the immediate threat by going for Gleam, and I end up getting over 50% chip with Band CC as SEA goes for Petroglyph, missing the KO. SEA goes out to Armaldo and I bring in Bastio, predicting the rocks and bouncing them back. I then stay in on the EQ and go for Petroglyph, dealing massive damage to Armaldo and forcing it out for fear of getting an unfavorable trade. I predict the switch and click Earth Power on the incoming Bastiodon, but unfortunately I miss the KO and have to trade some damage on my own Bastio in order to finish it off.
SEA finishes my Bastiodon off with Alticombat, then I go Kabutops, forcing Alti out and dealing insane damage to Ungabunguss with LO Hydro Pump. SEA, now on the back foot, is forced to sack Armaldo, and brings in Pesbasil hoping to revenge. However, I go out to my Cardantis, taking minimal damage from EQ. SEA then goes Ungabunguss, stalling for a few turns until my Misty Terrain wears off, then revealing Spore and putting my Cardantis to sleep. I go out to Armaldo and Ungabunguss knocks its Choice Scarf before swapping out to Pesbasil on my U-Turn. I had a feeling Pesbasil might be Scarf, but I decided not to scout it and went Helio, who ended up dying immediately when SEA revealed Pesbasil was indeed running Scarf. I go Alticombat and SEA sacks Ungabunguss. I go Cardantis into SEA's Alticombat, then SEA reveals it's actually SD Alti, which I was totally blindsided by. At this point there's nothing I can do but hope I win the speed tie with my own Alticombat, which I thankfully do, then finishing off Pesbasil with Kabutops.
This game could've gone a lot better than it did. I played extremely cleanly in the early and midgame, but failing to scout the Pesbasil cost me my main Alticombat answer, forcing me into a 50/50 in the endgame. Still a fun match and SEA played well, but I definitely hope to avoid any more speed ties in the coming weeks.

Hello chat. We interrupt your regularly scheduled match recaps to bring you a small balance patch.

:kabutops: Kabutops
- Earth Power

I didn’t want to do anything too drastic while PMPL is still running, but every player I spoke to agreed that Kabu should be toned down a bit, so we’ll start simple and likely do more post-tour.

Week 3

:omastar::kabutops::brute-bonnet::arctozolt::archeops::armaldo:THE_CHUNGLER vs jawabarat:gourgeist::carracosta::armaldo::archeops::kabutops::great-tusk:
This game.... I do not want to talk about it. Both players brought pretty standard teams, but jawabarat realized that Eleffigy-Zen validates in the builder, so uh... yeah. CHUNGLER leads Yizolt into jaw's Kabutops, U-Turning out on the Carracosta switchin. Armaldo comes in and gets up rocks, then reveals Toxic, poisoning jawabarat's Armaldo while it spins away the rocks. Rocks go back up as jawabarat swaps out to Kabutops, chunking the incoming Omastar with Earth Power.
CHUNGLER makes some big progress over the next few turns, knocking the items of both Armaldo and Carracosta while also getting rocks chip on a ton of jaw's mons as he swaps them around. On Turn 10, it's revealed that CHUNGLER is actually running Pixie Plate Yizolt, dealing 48% to Carracosta with Play Rough before getting it knocked off. This lets Yizolt 2HKO Carracosta after rocks, and with Armaldo weakened, jawabarat's Yizolt counterplay is starting to look very shaky. Jaw sacks Armaldo in order to spin the rocks away, then brings in Kabutops on CHUNGLER's own Kabu. Jaw tries Flip Turning out to Archeops in order to eat Earth Power, but CHUNGLER instead clicks Rapid Spin, removing rocks and keeping up momentum.
A few turns later, both Kabutops end up on the field again, but this time jawabarat stays in and trades Earth Powers. Unfortunately, jaw miscalculates how much damage Blood Stream will do (CHUNGLER was likely running AV) and misses the KO, allowing CHUNGLER's Kabutops to finish jaw's Kabu off with its own Blood Stream. This is when jawabarat finally brings out the elephant in the room, literally. Eleffigy-Zen hits the field and is immediately OHKO'd by an Armaldo U-Turn. From there, CHUNGLER has enough of a lead to play carefully around jawabarat's Gourgeist, and the game ends in a forfeit from jaw.
Definitely very unfortunate that jaw ended up the victim of a bug (though I'm not really sure what happened in the battle? Did Eleffigy change back to its base form?), but CHUNGLER had control for most of the battle, so it likely didn't influence the result.

:carracosta::gourgeist::hawlucha::excadrill::kabutops::bastiodon:Spammernoob vs Beaf Cultist:scolipede::crobat::arctozolt::floatzel::kabutops::aurorus:
Spammer starts off strong with a team full of goodmons, also featuring the first Goldoco we've seen so far, while I've put together a hazardstack team that abuses Specs Crobat, a very strong mon that for some reason hadn't been seen yet in tour. Spammer leads Gourgeist into my Brawlutra, forcing me out into Venopleura. Spammer sees this coming a mile away and clicks High Horsepower, but a lucky dodge saves me from losing on the spot.
A few turns later, Gourg is in on my Brawlutra again, but this time I stay in, eating a Grassy Glide (a move that for some reason hadn't been seen on Gourg before, despite it being a GTerrain setter) before pivoting out to Yizolt. I eat an unnecessary Glide before pivoting again, this time to Venopleura, which I use to get up Spikes as Carracosta switches in. I bring in Aurorus in order to spinblock, getting knocked in the process, but this knock is actually good for me, as it means Costa can no longer 2HKO Aurorus. I stay in and Nasty Plot as Spammernoob reveals he's actually running a Curse set, and this NP ends up being very good for me, letting Aurorus deal a clean 77% with Draco Meteor before being taken out by Knock.
Crobat comes in and picks off Gourgeist with Dark Pulse, then Spammernoob brings in Alticombat, revealing it's running a Grassy Seed SD set. This is why I say I was saved from losing on the spot earlier, as without Venopleura alive I likely just lost to this mon outright. Thankfully I still had a healthy Veno, so I hard swapped into it, forcing Alti out. Spammer goes into Goldoco and Spins away my Spikes while finishing off Brawlutra, taking big chip in return and allowing me to bring in Crobat again. Alti comes in on a Dark Pulse and takes 43% from a crit, still forcing me out into Venopleura again. I U-Turn on the obvious Goldoco switch and bring in Crobat once more, dealing another 32% to Alti and now bringing it cleanly into OHKO range. Spammer is forced out into Carracosta, who gets 2HKOed by Dark Pulse, then Bastiodon comes in and clicks Calm Mind as I swap out to Kabutops.
I deal 70% with Hydro Pump before dying to an Earth Power, then I fat finger my mouse and accidentally bring in Venopleura. This really sucked. I meant to go out to Yizolt, who could have finished off Bastiodon with a Bolt Beak and left Venopleura alive to deal with Kabutops, but because I clicked the wrong mon I was forced to sack Venopleura, forced to sack Yizolt to Alticombat after KOing the Bastiodon, and failed to OHKO the Kabutops with Crobat, losing me the battle.
This was such a rough ending. I was in a very positive position there, and while Earth Power Kabutops could've still given me some major problems, the misclick 100% sealed my fate. Still though, I definitely lost if Spammer hit High Horsepower on turn 2, so if you look at it that way then this loss was my just desserts. Regardless, though, Spammer played well, and my Specs Crobat idea worked, so I'll take solace in that.

:great-tusk::conkeldurr::sigilyph::sceptile::hawlucha::scolipede:magialice vs Lyna:kabutops::arctozolt::carracosta::swampert::dracozolt::aerodactyl:
While Lyna has a pretty standard squad, with only Dracomizer standing out as an uncommon pick, magialice has gone full shitmon stacking mode, bringing all 3 of Conkeldurr, Sigilyph, and Hemlophosaur, none of which ranked above B- on the pre-tour VR. magialice leads Sigilyph into Lyna's Kabutops, forcing Lyna to swap out to... Swampert? I guess Lyna was expecting Psychic here, but if that was the case I'm not sure why you wouldn't just go Carracosta, as Swampert ends up taking over 50% from Earth Power, forcing it out as well. Magialice brings in Venopleura on the Aerodactyl, getting its Balloon popped by a U-Turn before revealing it's running Earthquake, dealing big damage to Lyna's Carracosta as it sets up rocks.
Lyna goes Yizolt to try and capitalize on another EQ (though Yizolt usually can't touch Venopleura, so I'm not sure what the plan was going to be on the next turn), but alice U-Turns out, bringing in Hemlophosaur. Hemlophosaur clicks DD as Yizolt U-Turns out into Swampert, with Hemlo easily KOing it with a +1 Gunk Shot. Dracomizer comes in and Hemlophosaur reveals it's running Beat Up, which is... an interesting option, to say the least. In this case it does a clean 26% to Dracomizer as Tail Sear KOs Hemlo in return. Apparently alice was trying to abuse the fact that we haven't banned King's Rock, but an ~45% chance of flinching doesn't seem all that appealing when compared to a much stronger Gunk Shot that also has a 30% chance of Poisoning.
Alice brings in Conkeldurr next and deals massive damage to Dracomizer with Wave Crash before being forced out by Dragon Tail. Eleffigy is brought in and gets rocks up on the Aerodactyl switch before swapping out to Venopleura, who fails to KO Lyna's Carracosta with EQ, giving it the opportunity to heal back all its damage now that rocks are up for Trash Compactor. Alice brings in Conkeldurr while Costa heals up, and Lyna sacks Dracomizer to another Wave Crash. Kabutops comes in and spins away the rocks while alice swaps out to Eleffigy, revealing it's running Healing Wish. Conkeldurr is healed back to full by this, and cleanly 2HKOs Kabutops with Knock Off, barely taking any damage in return.
Lyna brings in Yizolt to revenge kill, but misses a Play Rough and gets its Choice Band knocked off. Unfortunately for magialice, even losing Band isn't enough to prevent their weakened Venopleura from being 2HKOed by Bolt Beak as it switches in, with Scarf Sigilyph being needed to finish Yizolt off. Carracosta comes in next and Conkeldurr switches in as Costa misses a Gunk Shot, showing this Conkeldurr really is the main character and letting it finish off Aerodactyl and majorly chip Carracosta with Wave Crash before going down. From there, a combination of Sigilyph and Alticombat takes out the Carracosta, and magialice claims victory.
This was a weird game to watch. Lyna made some confusing plays in the game itself while magialice had some quirky building decisions, but overall it was still cool to see notoriously bad mons like Conkeldurr and Sigilyph put in work in their own ways.
