Welcome to the first iteration of the RBY Other Metagames Premier League. All discussion in relation to RBYOMPL is welcome in this thread, but please try to keep offensive gestures to a minimum. Make or find a gif to accurately illustrate your position on a topic for others to understand easier or to find humor and lighten some of the stress throughout the event. Happy posting!

We've opened up the Discord server for shitposts and entertainment. If you are interested in getting involved with the Tauros Titans, join our Discord server and feel free to post your tournament resume in the server!

Since It's kind of last minute I wanted to make managers aware that both seyokaya01 and daiginjo both just signed up for NC97. They are good Japanese players who should definitely be on the board for consideration by any managers who don't have a definitive plan for their NC97 draft.

Pretty cool that we've managed to get a few signups from non-Smogon players and can potentially see some integration between communities for this tournament. And daijinjo marks entrant number 100, so we hit a milestone!

Figured I'd post a path to the playoffs thing for fun, so, current standings as Week 4 ends:

Trodes 7pts +9
Rhydons 5pts +1
Mankeys 5pts +0
Tauros 4pts +0
Jinwoos 3pts -2
Porys 0pts -8

Week 5 schedule:
:unown:Aurafarming Jinwoos vs Mickey Mankeys:mankey:
:Electrode:Extremely Serious Electrodes vs PoryGOATS:porygon:
:Rhydon:Red Rhydons vs Tauros Titans:tauros:

I'll go top to bottom:

Extremely Serious Electrodes
The Trodes have already locked playoffs and nearly locked first seed. Only two teams are capable of tying them in points, meaning the absolute worst seed we can get is third. For the Trodes to lose first seed, Rhydons would have to close an 8 differential gap and/or Mankeys would have to close a 9 differential gap. As Trodes won the head-to-head versus both teams, Trodes are presumably favored in case of a tie, meaning Rhydons need to gain 9 differential and Mankeys 10 in the last week. This would require a 0-6 or 1-5 by Trodes versus the only team that is mathematically eliminated, combined with a 5-1 (if 0-6) or 6-0 (if 1-5) by either the Rhydons or Mankeys (or both). In this case, Electrodes lock first seed by simply winning two games, or if Rhydons and Mankeys each lose two games. If top seed is down to a coinflip in case of a tie then you can ignore the extra differential point in my calculations for the Rhydons and they can just make up 8 diff to tie.

Red Rhydons
The Rhydons are capable of falling out of playoffs as are all other teams in contention, but they have the advantage of fully controlling their own destiny, only needing 2 wins to secure a playoff berth on differential, and all of their loss paths being incredibly contrived. A Rhydons win or tie automatically locks playoffs, of course, as a tie prevents the Tauros Titans from passing them and also puts them completely out of reach of the Aurafarming Jinwoos, guaranteeing a minimum of third seed. For Rhydons to be eliminated before playoffs, they have to lose to the Titans worse than 2-4 and Jinwoos have to beat the Mankeys, but the Rhydons also have to end up with a worse differential than the Jinwoos and Mankeys. Seeing as they currently have a better differential than both of those teams and both of those teams are playing each other, this is Quite Difficult. The scenarios here are: Jinwoos beat Mankeys 4-2 and Titans blow out the Rhydons 6-0 or 5-1, or Jinwoos beat Mankeys 5-1 and Titans 6-0 Rhydons. Jinwoos 6-0ing Mankeys guarantees that Rhydons will always beat the Mankeys on differential and thus lock playoffs. Jinwoos losing or tying is automatic playoffs for Rhydons in every case, though they can fall as low as 4th seed if they lose to Titans. Basically, win two games and Rhydons are in, but even if they mess that up, they need a lot to go wrong.

Mickey Mankeys
The Mankeys are also in a pretty solid position here thanks to a very silly activity win concession; as with Rhydons, winning or tying guarantees they're in since it keeps Jinwoos out. However, even losing to Jinwoos does not necessary knock them out; the Tauros Titans would also have to win or tie, and in the case of a Titans win, the Rhydons would still have to have a better differential than the Mankeys. Basically, Mankeys control their destiny and can just win or tie to make it but in the worst case, as long as Rhydons lose worse than the Mankeys, the Mankeys will sneak in over them, and a Titans loss is a guaranteed in for them too.

Tauros Titans
This is where you start having to win some games to make playoffs with consistency, but the Titans are blessed in that winning is an automatic in, and tying is somehow STILL an automatic in for them - in a tie, they have 5 points and a +0 differential, meaning that either a) Jinwoos win and also climb to 5 points, but knock Mankeys to negative differential, putting the Titans above them, or b) Mankeys win or tie, meaning the Titans are still above the Jinwoos. If the Titans lose, all they need is for Jinwoos to not close the 1 point and 2 differential gap, meaning a Jinwoos tie or loss also locks the playoffs for the Titans.

Aurafarming Jinwoos
The final playoff contender also is lucky to control its own destiny here - if the last week had been, say, Dons vs Mankeys, the Jinwoos would be in huge trouble. Jinwoos need a win to avoid some messy differential games. A win puts them at 5 points and somewhere between +0 differential (4-2 finish) to +4 differential (6-0ing the Mankeys). Since this would also knock the Mankeys to a lower differential than them (-2 to -6), Jinwoos would always lock playoffs. A tie is where it gets tricky - they would need to pass Tauros Titans on differential while sitting at -2, meaning that Tauros Titans need to lose 3 differential - a result of 5-1 assuming no deadgames, though 4-1 also works since Titans might simply forfeit if they lose like that. 2 wins from Titans is enough to crush that result, so Jinwoos are very very precarious if they tie.

PoryGOATS
Sorry guys, you've Been Out. Better luck next time.

TLDR
Trodes don't care cause we're locked, Rhydons/Mankeys/Titans all want Jinwoos to lose or just for themselves to win/tie, Jinwoos want to win, or they want to tie and see Titans do horrendously. Porys also don't care cause they're locked out.

While the result wasn't what we wanted, I do want to say I think this has probably been my favourite team tour that I've played in a while. The dedication this team had was unmatched and it was glad to see everyone performing throughout numerous weeks.

Before I say anything, I want to give a huge shoutouts to PKMN Master™. The amount of work and effort you made to help turn the ship around for LC and no amount of justice can be given towards the amount of contributions you made as a co-manager. I thank you immensely for being around and I'd love to team with you however possible in future team tours!

With that said, let's go ahead with the rest of the shoutouts:

magialice - I was quite fascinated in your performances in 1v1 prior to your pickup, and you have done an amazing job for what you managed to accomplish. RBY 1v1 is a very luck infested tier, don't get me wrong, but when you cooked, you made things look easy. I'm glad we made the pickup, and best of luck for you in other tours!

bleahey - It was a rough start of the tour with exams and the whole Little Cup room deletion saga somewhat derailing things within the tier, but you managed to pick yourself up and secure b2b wins in Weeks 5 and in the playoffs. I think if I were to do differently, I think I should've chosen LC ahead of SU because I reckon you would've done an amazing job. Regardless, Keep killing it out there GOAT, would love to team with you in another tour someday.

TerraSpark daiginjo - The amount of effort you two had put into this team tour together was probably the most impressive thing I've seen in ANY team tour. You guys have been absolutely phenomenal, finding little quirks and places for innovation ranging from Substitute Soft-Boiled Chansey, the Venusaur shenanigans, level 55 Rest Ninetales, and much more. I appreciate the both of you for keeping your spirits high no matter what obstacles faced you. I'm sorry to TerraSpark in particular for not giving you the opportunity to face Ranshiin in the finals, but alas, I hope you two continue to perform in NC 1997; and to Daiginjo especially, I hope to see you more around Smogon!

Enigami - I still find it incredibly funny that we stole you from the PoryGOATS, but I knew you would be able to perform however you could. A bit unfortunate you couldn't manage to overcome the Mana problem, but you gave it everything out there, and I appreciate you immensely for your contributions.

NotVeryCake - If I could describe you this team tour in one word, it would be "composure". Despite the rocky start and others unfortunately berating you earlier in the season, you were able to keep your head up and ignore the trolls. In fact, you ended up having the best record in the team (5-2), which suggests more about your character and how you are able to deliver despite the negativity. Considering your talent and skill within RBY, if you are able to stay away from the toxicity and keep positive despite the frustrations, I wouldn't be surprised to see you playing in SPL someday. In the meantime, keep yourself away from trouble, and I know you'll do well.

Hacker - My apologies we couldn't give you what you needed in Little Cup earlier in the season, but I'm glad to see you're doing well as tier leader after such a difficult period of time going on within the LC community. All love.

torkonpeter - While we couldn't get you as much games as you deserved, I do think you deserve more of an opportunity to play SU. You've been performing well in the ongoing SU Discord tour, and your overall RBY knowledge is unmatched. From the initial days of Pokemon Perfect 8U up until now, it is amazing seeing you grow not only as a player, but a person too. Keep that energy going, and let's hope next year we can get 10U in RBYOMPL II :kek:

acluh1 - Sorry for not being able to pick you up. Your efforts with testing and insight were amazing. Keep learning and performing, and you should find your way onto teams soon enough. Full faith in you GOAT.

Arcanine1929 - While you didn't do much, I'm hope you are doing okay mentally. You're an amazing person to talk to, and your presence is uplifting wherever it be. Everyone should try to take care of their mental health, and I hope you are able to turn things around.

I also want to give my thanks to missangelic for your efforts and contributions with SU as a whole these past couple of years to get us into the position we're in now, you have been such an amazing presence in the community and we will reap the rewards with SU soon enough (fingers crossed). Special thanks to Volk as well for getting the ball rolling and making sure this is all possible. Every metagame has something to offer, and this team tour helps to showcase all the tiers that don't get the spotlight they deserve. The RBY community has a special place in my heart and I'd love to step into the community some more in the coming years, but for now, our journey this tour has come to an end.

I'll be releasing my SU post sometime next week or the week after, and best of luck to the Aurafarming Jinwoos and the Mickey Mankey in the finals! Until next time..

This tour was a blast! It was really fun to see these lesser-seen RBY metagames develop, especially STABmons and SU saw a lot of really cool stuff! I'd like to s/o my team as everyone contributed to this tour being a really fun experience!

First and foremost Wanted in 49 States ty for agreeing to co-manage! We are both inexperienced as managers (ur first time, my second) but I think we still had a great draft and you helped keep the team morale high, as well as helped with prep. Also ty for trusting me to self-buy even tho I only played half the weeks lol

The Mankeys
Amaranth you did A LOT more than I thought you would tbh, I assumed I would have to build for u all tour but by the time week 3/4 hit your intuition for the lines in the tier developed to the point where you solved the tier and performed really well. Also you were very kind to let us use your channel as a shitposting channel.

Acetylaldehyde ofc the start of the tour wasn't great but you locked tf in when it mattered the most. Even with ur rustiness from taking a break you still played really well, and I'm glad that you're back playing the game!

Ranshiin I'm sorry I wasn't much help for your tier since I know next to nothing about Nintendo cup, but you still did really well in this tour and should be proud of how you performed. I can't believe we were able to steal u for 3k.

Blanched similar to Ranshiin I wasn't able to help much for your slot but you also performed well, esp since we also grabbed u for 3k. We were really worried about finding a strong 1v1er during the draft so I'm glad we were able to get u!

Shellnuts I got pretty checked out of mons around week 3 and had no motivation to play and I'm really really grateful you were able to sub in for me! You did a great job and prepped very well, even coming up with lines then executing them in-game.

King Billu I know this was a rough tour for you but you are still a great player, and tbf the luck did not go ur way in a few weeks. I'm glad that you were still arround to help/support LC in playoffs!

hammer798 ty for your help with LC prep during the first half of the tour, then agreeing to sub in for playoffs! Your semis set was fantastic, s/o self-destruct exeggcute

ButtGallon Unfort you never got a chance to play but I appreciate the support for LC/SU, you were a huge help there. Also pulling up the RNG calculator every time we had a game where we got stupidly lucky/unlucky was really fun

Volk even tho u were only around for playoffs you were still our team's most useful support, you carried STABmons prep HARD and helped in other tiers like SU/Stadium. Your help was a huge contribution to why our playoffs went so well! I guess this is where I can also include thanking you this tour even existing in the first place LOL, you truly are the OM GOAT.

Maris Bonibell i appreciate the help with SU prep in the final week, and you also helped me annoy amaranth which is nice

lost heros Murm ofc I wasn't too involved with 1v1 so I really appreciate the help with prep there, since you two actually knew what you were doing

Gangsta Spongebob I appreciate the STABmons help and I'm glad I didn't have to ban u from the server for suggesting dumbass unserious haunter

I also want to s/o Mikon, even though we never interacted I blatantly ripped off your teambuilding style for the latter half of the tour and it worked extremely well, you truly are the stadium goat.

Overall this tour definitely exceeded my expectations, it was super fun and I had a great time! Once again I'd like to thank everybody on the Mankeys for making this tour an awesome experience!

youre welcome for the prep i carried the team with :haha:

Howdy! With RBYOMPL concluded, I wanted to see how everyone felt about how it went. If you have the time, please fill out this survey to share your thoughts on the tournament. If you have no opinion for a question, just mark it as N/A, or something equivalent to that.

I will likely be double-posting here soon to share my own post-mortem thoughts. Thank you for participating!
