Week 1 + Week 2 Qualifiers Stage Recap [Spoiler in Summary]
unbiased summary of Week 1 + Week 2 games of WCOP Ubers. Please understand I don't know your sets, EVs, and your thought process - so some plays that made sense to you may not have made sense to me. Sorry if I misjudge the gameplay as well, I only took a little over an hour to write up and watch all replays so this isn't going to be insanely in depth, more so just a spectator point of view.

Ichi1111 vs. Crossia

arceus-less pagos webs team from crossia and a less standard lando hooh balance featuring eleceus from ichi. crossia leads with bee to get webs up right away while ichi gets up rocks of their own. bee reveals to be scarf (or master bluff from crossia to fool people looking into their scout later in the tour!? who knows.) and ichi immediately sets subs with his hooh on the bee locked into webs. crossia spins off rocks and hooh reveals to be defensive whirlwind w substitute - something we've not seen used before. pagos being faster roars out hooh and surprises lando with ice beam, also quite unconventional on terapagos, somehow doesn't kill lando. ichi repositions his hooh behind sub and spams whirl till lunala eventually attacks it as hooh attacks it back and gets a burn. terapagos comes out on the next whirl and surprises hooh with toxic, meaning its missing rocks. crossias etern finally manages to kill off hooh but not before it manages to whirl in koraidon as it faints. ichi brings in lando and crossia tries to set up his koraidon with not many sun turns left. ichi makes a brave play here and uses tera fairy on his 6% lando t to block scale shot - risky play but works out incredibly well as they're able to 1v1 kora with it. Ichi seems to be ahead in the game as of this turn with a chipped lunala, zacian without attack boost, and an etern waiting to get revenge killed by scarf koraidon. eleceus reveals to be dragon tail as lunala tries to set up on it which seems to be the nail in the coffin, but brings in eternatus which immediately kills it. ichi makes a bad play here and sacks their zacian for basically free. i imagined it was to bring eternatus in range of flare blitz by life orb recoil, but unless it was adamant, flare needed a high roll to kill it off. crossia goes to lunala and also sacks it to flare blitz for free. crossia puts all hope into a miracle zac sweep, but it turns out to be tera flying, meaning it cant set up beyond +2 on the koraidon, and Ichi comfortably tanks a +2 attack with their etern and kills off the zacian with dynamax cannon, earning their debut official win in a pretty intense game! quite a few misplays here, crossia couldve tried to set up zac on koraidon before sacking lunala to land himself in a guaranteed win spot (barring dynamax crit from eternatus on zacian which I dont think would've killed anyway). ichi also sacked their zacian for no reason and risked a kora roll on etern, which couldve been helpful to tank a hit from opposing +1 zacian, or +1 lunala. fun game to watch overall.

pokerampage brings what appears to be the fc specs ogre sample sample but I'm not quite sure if rofna recognized it and opened its paste given his timer not dropping much - so it looks like pokerampage may have gotten away with it this time, but step up your game fam. rofna brings a rather standard ditto build with tinglu and waterceus. pokerampage and rofna exchange hazards and hooh is able to catch a kyogre switch and some solid chip on it early game, kyogre being specs was probably going to be threatening rofnas team a lot, so this was a great play. there is quick progress in the game as tinglu is toxiced and pokerampage defogs his own spikes away and doesnt get the chance to stack them later on, hooh is able to get chip on giratina and tinglu as well. pokerampage struggles to position his eternatus or kyogre or koraidon properly and ends up losing eternatus and kyogre for cheap as rofna constantly pressured his opponent well with hazards. eventually we end up in a spot where hooh just sits on the remaining team. fairyceus burns tera on eternatus so the win is certain for rofna since ditto or waterceus can just revenge kill whatever set the kora could be using. this game was played too linearly by pokerampage and he failed to use his best breakers well. the mu was probably even-ish even after rofna caught the ogre switch in super early in the game, but he continued to keep momentum from there on.

alex brings a deo-s offense with 5 physical attackers while 8truc loads a wallceus skeledirge stall. the issue with all physical attackers is that nothing really pressures hooh immediately which forces alex to bring in his groundceus and threaten hooh with stone edge, but to his surprise 8truc uses a very early tera (dark) and gets a burn - negating groundceus as a threat for the whole game. alex does well to prevent hazards from going up but unfortunately fails to get any real progress vs the stall team. the sets were all relatively standard except for tera ground zacian but alex misplayed by clicking sd instead of tera blast tera ground right away on the incoming dirge and 8truc is able to land wisp, so even zacian is not a threat anymore. rest of the team is low diffed by iron defense arceus and 8truc gets a pretty convincing win in his debut. while this wouldve been a hard mu for alex anyway, having a special attacker to pressure hooh and force in blissey to make doubles, and clicking tera ground tera blast on skeledirge on the switch in couldve given him a fighting chance, but unfortunately he played this game too linearly and 4 mons on his team failed to make any progress at all.

RoFnA vs. Shion

ditto on both teams! fairly similar builds actually, rofna seems favored right away because he has an hooh, meaning he will have an easier time absorbing hits from breaker kora/etern and also phase out fairyceus if its an offensive set (likely so, given the lando is probably defensive rocks here) rofna immediately gets up all spikes layers, a toxic on tinglu, and a tspike while taking minimal chip on his own tinglu. rofna is already in a really good spot given his hooh just has to click whirlwind several times. shions etern revealed to be toxic hdb as well, making it less of a threat as long as rofna can keep his own etern + hooh around. the game has slow progress on both ends till shion is able to catch rofnas etern on low hp and force tera on it but its run out of dynamax cannon at this point, meaning ditto and hooh can endlessly wall it. shion reveals to be cm idef fairyceus but rofna does quite well by keeping his hooh healthy and spamming whirlwind everytime it tried to set up, quickly draining its recovers and accumulating spikes and rocks damage on other mons. shion can only watch since his only breaker was koraidon that got only one chance in the whole game after rofna caught it with a brave bird on a random turn. rofnas koraidon is able to clean the endgame, getting him a solid 2-0 record in wcop quals stage. while rofna was favored on preview, shion shouldve tried to break early with his koraidon instead of getting into a hazard war. koraidon breaking early on wouldve let shion break hooh or etern or get a kill most times it comes in. cm idef fairy looked good vs rofna after etern or hooh is killed, and with hazards up, shions toxic hdb eternatus can quickly pressure rofnas team if he manages to get rid of his etern.

probably the most anticipated match of this quals phase, ice brings the same 6 we have seen twice from rofna already and ainz brings 6 guys ranked above a rank on vr. ice starts off early with getting rocks up with waterceus while ainz gets tspikes up - which looks pretty strong here since ice doesnt have an absorber and 4 mons on his team are vulnerable to it. ainz gets the second layer up as tinglu switches in and ice starts to stack up his spikes to counter this. gets up a couple of layers before being forced out by fairyceus and goes into hooh immediately to threaten whirlwinds. eternatus reveals non hdb which is probably unexpected on a tspike set - defensive etern was looking quite good here but it seems to be a scarf set since only that can fit sludge bomb + tspikes. but what do i know. ainzs zacian comes in on a max health waterceus and expecting sub ice hard switches into his ditto...

huge blow for icemaster, seems to be a 20% roll after factoring in toxic damage but he wouldve gotten some chip on lando, or killed the zacian which would help him in late game. he brings in his ho-oh to revenge kill. ainz sends in koraidon on it and attempts to do a sweep but the sun has run out. he commits to the koraidon sweep and starts to set up sd, forcing tera fairy on waterceus but ice is able to hold it off by wisping it. ainzs kyogre looks really threatening now with only kora as water resist. ainz catches kora on his first try and ice tries to keep things alive with his hooh but unfortunately gets kyogre back in on a whirlwind. ices zacian tries to make a difference but cm idef fairyceus is able to close the endgame despite of ice having sacred sword zacian which only beats it if tera is preserved. exciting game with a lot of things not going icemaster's way here, but ainz made the right plays and capitalized well on the opportunities.

another sample! screens makes its debut in the world cup. crossia leads zacian into the grimmsnarl which gets up a reflect and parting shots to groundceus giving it an easy set up. a series of risky plays happen now - crossia sds on the parting shot and burns his tera (flying) on zacian in exchange for keeping groundceus low - but switches out to kingambit when its in range of sucker. groundceus reveals recover which blocks sucker punch but crossia commits to getting some damage on groundceus before going to ekiller to revenge kill it, so he sets up sd and manages to get a sucker predict correct to bring it in range of extreme speed. now, he could've gone to ekiller on turn 5 which would preserve kingambit and be a lot less riskier overall but he managed to make it work anyway. crossia gets up hazards and brings in his zacian again, and sets it up on groundceus. with no resists and no grimmsnarl left to set up screens, it kills all 5 and crossia finishes the quals stage 1-1. ghostfall misplayed the intial groundceus sequence, he almost certainly shouldve gotten more out of that groundceus - but credit to crossia for outpredicting him.

if i see another sample team I'm going to lose it. those teams are outdated - just steal from ult if you cant build. still excited for the final week of quals, hopefully less recycles and sample builds, and more building and thinking :)
this took me a while to write and i probably wont cover the second half of quals phase unless this post gets some love :heart:​

lots of games this week! this round felt way better to watch gameplay wise, and we saw some cool teams from a lot of players. like last time, im gonna be unbiased and try to judge the games fairly but i obviously dont know your sets or thought process, so forgive me if i analyze your game incorrectly.

Blazing vs. reyscarface

reyscarface brings an interesting stall build that relies on keeping hazards off to support dondozo, wallceus, and tina that opted for lefties over hdb - he has hazard control in the form of tera steel giratina that is terad early game to defog rocks set by arceus-fairy, as well as a lefties hatterene for the tinglus and the lead setters. blazing has a standard tinglu hooh balance with tera flying bird and dd koff ndm as his stall breakers. tera flying bird is unfortunately met with tera steel giratina and leftovers dondozo which are quite difficult for hooh to break through. ho-oh and ndm both try to make a difference, but rey does well to keep rocks off the field for most of the game and preserve leftovers on his tina, ultimately its too tough for blazing to break through as rest of his mons dont help out much in this matchup and faint for cheap. rey does well to keep his patience throughout the game and avoids making any risky plays and wins this game comfortably by losing just one mon in total. tera-ing giratina early game put him in a great advantage from the start and unfortunately for blazing, his stallbreakers were just not strong enough for this matchup. cool to see a new stall!

SOULWIND vs. Blazing

blazing loads clef dirge stall into soulwind, pretty risky bring given that a player like soulwind would not have trouble breaking stall if he brings a bo/ho with stallbreakers. soulwind ends up using a gliscor waterceus BO that gives very scl meta vibes - if my memory serves me right this is very similar to the team that icemaster brought into soulwind, but i suppose it still sorta works in this meta. soulwind has 2 stallbreakers here - dd ndm which is walled by idef skarmory completely, and tera flying bird which is facing a tera rock clefable. soulwind does not have the tools to prevent hazards from being stacked on his side but is able to make some progress by knocking the skeledirge with dd ndm and then getting his layers up to pressure it, and has a hdb kingambit which is immune to hazards and can launch hits on skarm and ho-oh. sadly kingambit is too weak in early game and blazing doesnt actually need his skeledirge here which makes the matchup super tough for soulwind. soulwind is able to take the game quite deep and if you hover over the mons on the last turn, just a couple more roosts and brave birds on ho-oh wouldve won the game for soulwind, but blazing will take this one for now

standard fairy hooh tinglu structure from ainz meets soumavs pagos mola bulky offense. matchup seems pretty even on preview and the game will probably come down to whoever plays better. or gets luckier, as soumav freezes ainzs etern turn 1 in exchange for taking a toxic, and ainz doesnt thaw before it is eventually 3hkod. ainz tries to set up koraidon and kill the mola but it tera fairies and... doesnt kill back because its alluring voice. ainz struggles a bit to get hazards up because of pagos keeping them off and then mola healing it again. ainz reveals cm idef poison fairyceus, and soumav reveals dd ground and tries to set up with it while hes ahead, but tinglu and lando-t was too difficult for him to break through. ainz tries to set up his cm fairyceus quickly and is able to land a boosted judgment on terapagos which puts it very near to death. now all ainz has to do is prevent any more wish passing and hope that soumav is unable to position his groundceus before fairyceus is brought in, which works out so cm idef fairy is able to close the endgame

Mashing vs. AlekxBR

mashing loads hatterene and scarf hooh with kingambit and possibly offensive koraidon into alekxbrs sticky web team. she leads hatterene as expected while alex leads with koraidon - is forced out and takes a nuzzle with his lunala. while he is able to get webs up at the cost of trading his kora with hatterene, the rest of the game goes as poorly as youd expect given this matchup, scarf hooh is able to beat the cm fairy setting up on it by tera flying, and rest of the game just plays itself out. mashing starts off her wcop run with a pretty comfortable win thanks to her solid team choice in this matchup.

reyscarface brings a webs team with kyogre this time which is a pretty unpopular option for webs but i can see what he was going for. soulwind has a team that youd expect a ribombee on, but its lead terapagos with gholdengo and kyurem black. those two generally require webs support and definitely do not like webs being up on their own side. unfortunately soulwind is unable to spin off the webs which makes the game quite tough for him. he is able to trade his gholdengo for zacian which is definitely pretty good value for him. also finds an opportunity to set up his fairyceus and trouble kyogre and lunala but its mostly in vain. he lures in eternatus by trying to set up his kyub and switches to terapagos after he tries to play around it to take minimum damage on pagos. pagos lures in lunala as soulwind doubles back to kyub and is able to set up dragon dances this time - this forces tera and dents koraidon which keeps it out of the game. reyscarfaces lunala surprisingly underspeeds zacian even after the speed drop from webs. soulwind reveals to be tera flying zacian which he uses to kill lunala, switch out, and come back to outspeed and kill etern, winning a pretty difficult matchup. reyscarface played quite well but definitely got sabotagged by the lunala

pokerampage takes advice from the previous recap and steals a ULT build, the most common one at that, and shion is seen with the same build as his last game, but it has a pretty solid matchup here. pokerampage he tries to make a difference with all his mons but the only one that can really do anything without fearing ditto is ghostceus, and shion makes sure he is able to land a toxic on it which makes it a lot less of a threat especially after pokerampage teraing it out of its ghost type. the matchup just plays out itself and shion takes the win.

this is the third stall game i have to cover this week so feeling a bit lazy - but ice plays it as well as youd expect him to, rowlets ogre looks like its specs but i havent calced so not sure. he leads with it and forces out ices ttar, ice takes a spout and tera watered his blissey next turn while rowlet tera watered his own kyogre on the soft boil, but rowlet has unfortunately missed the opportunity of tera watering kyogre right away and denting blissey harder, ice did lead ttar so it wouldnt have been as threatening cus no rain but now water spout is also weaker because of sand chip. the game is played pretty normally since rowlet doesnt have many tools to do anything but in the late game he reveals cm taunt fairyceus which makes me wonder if this game couldve been played differently if rowlet was more patient with his kyogre and lead fairy instead, since fairyceus avoids hazards from going up, maybe with better positioning this game couldve been closer - but for now ice has too much experience with this team and was able to get all plays right and also playing well around a potential cm taunt arc sweep in the endgame

8truc1 brings a Ditto balance team, a type of structure that has seen notable use on both the AG and Ubers ladders. In this team, Koraidon is most likely running hdb while Arceus-Ground could be either a Dragon Dance or Calm Mind variant with Ice Beam, considering the presence of Alomomola as pivot into Ho-Oh.
Ainzcrad opted for a Arc-f/Kyogre/Giratine BO, from team preview, the Choice Scarf user is either Kyogre or Landorus-Therian, bacause a Choice-locked Koraidon would make the team struggle in the stall matchup. The presence of Giratina also suggest a possible Specs Kyogre.
The matchup slightly favors Ainzcrad if 8truc1’s Koraidon is running Scale Shot, since 8truc1 lacks a Fairy to check the former.
Game:
8truc1 leads with Ditto to scout Ainzcrad’s lead, which turns out to be Lando-T, allowing 8truc1 to determine whether it’s holding a Choice Scarf. After a few turns, the game progresses to a Koraidon vs. Eternatus moment, where Koraidon reveals Scale Shot. At this point, Ainzcrad chooses to stay in against Alomomola for a second Scale Shot, likely predicting a Flip Turn or Wish from 8truc1. However, 8truc1 goes for a direct Play Rough instead, getting rid of the main threat to his team. Specs Ogre is then revealed, which shows that Ainzcrad's prep was focused on a possible fat/stall mu. 8truc1 decides to trade his Ditto for Giratina-O, strongly suggesting that Eternatus carries Toxic Spikes, which is confirmed on turn 9. With both Kyogre and Arceus-Fairy poisoned, Ainzcrad's position becomes almost unrecoverable, leading to a well-earned victory for 8truc1.

Reyscarface team is a classic BO double Fairy, here the scarfer (if present) is either Lando-T (Sticky Web MU) or Kyogre (Offense MU).

Icemaster brings an interesting Hazard stack Arc-water Groudon build. Suggesting Spikes on Groudon, SR on Arc-W and dd Knock Necrozma

The matchup is difficult to judge from preview given several unknown factors on both teams.
Game:
Lando-T vs Groudon lead where the former being faster reveals the t1 Spike into taunt. T4 Icemaster decides to preserve Arc-W despite having WoW which could have helped a late game sweep with Koraidon. Here Lunala shows Future Sight which is a unusual choice on Lunala but here guarantees a kill for Rey Ogre soon after. T8 Sacred Fire miss puts Icemaster behind in the game, since Landorus-T will be important for Rey in the endgame.
On turn 13, Rey reveals a CB Tera Fire Koraidon, which OHKOs Groudon and, on the following turn, also takes down Ho-Oh with a critical hit. At this point, Icemaster's odds begin to look poor, as Necrozma-DM appears to be a non-bulky variant since Icemaster is forced to go for tera Fire Flame Charge on turn 18. The game ends in a Koraidon vs. Lunala scenario, made possible by an Origin Pulse miss from Scarf Kyogre. Due to the absence of Flare Blitz in Koraidon's moveset, Lunala can survive an hit, allowing Reyscarface to secure the win.

Very strong pool, I think Fc > Entro by a bit, but that's mainly because Entro has barely played or prepared recently. I don't doubt he will try hard to defend his homeland. Entro > Skyiew in light of this. Skyiew is far more experienced than Eoward. unfortunately, I think Eoward will struggle here as pretty much anyone would but he can probably get 1 win thanks to the nature of SV and Tera. just because people are less experienced I don't think it means anyone at this stage will come in with bad teams or prep after all they are defending their homeland
Predict: 2-1 Fc, 2-1 Entro, 1-2 Skyiew, 1-2 Eoward

SV Ubers #47:
I think this is the strongest pool. Kate is the best here IMO but not by a huge amount. Richard and Lana are very close in skill level. Serpi I hear is a legit master of RBY and since they are defending their homeland I expect them to still be bringing 3 good teams despite unfamiliarity with Ubers. i.e: the prep advantage here isn't that high for the other players, rather the practice in different ingame situations but NGL a different beast awakens in people when defending their homeland.

Bacon is the best Ubers player and has the best help this tournament. Emoxu is very good and doesn't really need help, his ingame is very good too. China does have a lot of Ubers players and I get the feeling they're close knit; the support will be there to defend their homeland. Hats is someone I've played on ULT ladder, he knows his way round Ubers for sure and Suzuya will help too, and I hear Excal has been practicing a lot and I don't think Ubers is THAT hard to do well at. especially since he will give it all for his homeland.

SV Ubers #50:
this pool is incredibly even. Ainz played some good games this year and has definitely leveled up recently, but I do think Scottie is the one to beat. While ox isn't on the lineup (and IDT will build), Scottie probably has got that under control - it's not THAT hard to build Ubers especially for your homeland. Jhonx turns into a different beast when playing for Chile, and DripLegend had a meh UWTT but again for his country probably prepares and tries way harder.

Canada is out of wcop now so I figured I'd share the ideas behind what I built to keep this thread alive. shoutouts Frito for all the tests during the run. Click sprites for pastes, moves and teras just no evs.

Since in my pool I already knew 2 of the players quite well I didn't do too heavy scouting, and more relied on vibes on what I'd face from most people and just built some solid teams I believed could win. This one's a bit strange especially with the lunala set, but the goal behind that was to help vs the normal ttar stalls and stuff with etern + lunala breaking them down. Skyiew loaded a deo-s HO which I would end up facing the same 6 twice in pools, being able to win vs it both times. This was a very close game that swayed a bit in my fortune with a fire blast dodge, but the way I went about counterplay ended up being relatively the same regardless. Blitz with korai to kill the etern which was the biggest threat, then tera fire as necessary and try to chip the physical attackers with groudon. I ended up realizing I couldn't win with scarf korai unless I got max layers so I sacked groudon to do so, and after some recover stalling in the arc war I ended up with koraidon low kicking the last 2 down. Team itself aside from the lunala is fairly standard, ho-oh sp.def for normal eterns but I just got blasted by an mbeam this game anyway. I expected it to either be life orb or just sludge bomb even if it was mbeam because the threat of etern was high so I thought it would want to guarantee the mbeam hits ho-oh. In hindsight I shoulda just gone lunala first if I was gonna do this anyway, its usefulness was limited in the game overall unless I was healthy and could take one hit later on but that wasn't super helpful even then bc it didn't ohko anything. slight misstep but the groudon koraidon core ended up clutching.

The team composition itself is fairly standard, though, with just korai fairyceus etern ho-oh being a super common core of 4 mons and me just choosing to round it out however I wanted. Since the mons to close it out weren't scarf that's why I made the koraidon the scarfer, with no prio no scarf I probably just get folded by deo teams like this. Groudon was smth I hadn't used so I kinda just wanted to try it one game this wcop ngl, so I built around that and figured the natural last was the spinblocker. Already kinda explained the strange lunala set above but it just seemed funny and did work in stall tests when combined with the rest of the team. Rocker fairyceus so don doesn't have to do both hazards and tera dark ho-oh for cheese stored power stuff, fairly normal.

Eoward was the only player in my pool I didn't know much about, so I was unsure what I was gonna face. Given that I mainly just wanted to run something good into stall and HO then back myself in a normal bulky offense vs balance/ bulky offense game to use the tools the team provides well enough if that's the kind of game it ends up being. I did end up facing a balance type team with some very unique picks, being defensive dialga and corviknight. In the game the fairyceus ends up revealing cm taunt so I'm really bad into it with my main answer being a terapagos, so I have to pivot my plan quickly. I go kyogre to try and force a recover to get kyurem in safely, and I get full para'd once but then crit the second attempt to force the recover all the same, just maybe with a bit more damage from crit > 2 opulses. Kyurem tera fire dd's to live the judgment then does it again since I expected a sack. I try sub fishing on kyogre since the game kinda ends if I dodge but it doesn't happen, so the game continues and dialgas tera takes out kyurem. Kyurem did its job tho forcing out the fairyceus, forcing tera, and getting a kill. From there I just pivot around a bit until kyogre gets in again, and he opts to sack fairyceus to it rather than dialga which was a relief since fairyceus still seemed like a massive threat. Koraidon reveals sub iron head and almost makes something happen by critting my fairyceus but I end up pulling it back, and win with a dodge in the korai war then scale shot. I should still be fine even without dodge because I can roar with pagos and the second I get fairyceus in it'll win since it's idef and can beat the corv + korai.

This team itself is probably the least standard, but it doesn't go too far off something normal. It's good to not be super predictable in a stage like this so I wanted this team to be unique and still cover everything I wanted. My main thing was just building around terapagos to cover for any unpredictability from an opponent I knew less about, and kyurem-b was just something I also wanted to use. The next 4 fit in naturally and are just a good core of a team, with korai fairyceus kyogre lando-t being one of the most common cores on bulky offense / balance and I was able to more safely run scarf kyogre with pagos which freed up sd korai breaker. Since lando rocked that meant pagos could starstorm and also that fairyceus could do whatever it wanted, and it can realistically be any cm set here I just felt like using idef and had I lost the korai war at the end it actually woulda ended up being the safest one bc it could def boost on corv so way more luck would be needed to win with the iron head koraidon.

My game vs entro was the last of my pool, and it was a really big one at the time since Canada was 14-13 and the qualification for playoffs was going 16-14, so we just had to win 2/3 of the next to make tiebreak, and 3/3 to go straight to playoffs. We ended up finishing the season 15-15 so our last 2 games didn't go as well but I still won this game and it was a good one. Going into this I did the same thing as always really, just try to make sure my mu's into offense and stall are playable then see what I can do in the actual game. I specified no scarfer in the paste because I was unsure if I planned on switching that before my game, and I even did the same vs skyiew but luckily I did commit to changing it from sd to scarf koraidon after losing an HO test game which saved me the actual game. With ekiller and zacian I felt like I'd be okay though. I end up facing the same deo HO that skyiew loaded, just with new sets. The game starts normally, with deo twaving kyogre and it dropping to opulse since it isn't sash, which saving no hazards going up was huge for me. Korai comes in and I just wanna ice beam it in case he assumes I'm choiced, but he switches groudceus and still takes a lot from a few ice beams. Eventually I give up on fishing for not being para'd that many times and force zacian in with ekiller, which lets lando rocks for free and also take it out. He's kinda forced to cc ekiller in this position since if I'm eq or just tera fire and sd recover more the game could end right there. Kyogre luckily lives a groundceus dd eq with the bulk it has, but the bulk up koraidon gets to come in and really threatens the game. The only way out was to pivot around with lando then sack it with 2 turns of sun left, so that when I go into tera fairy koraidon I can CC twice and the drain punch + flame charge won't kill because sun is down and he also won't heal enough back, while I just do enough. If he bulked up again I lost, but also that woulda risked me being dice scale and staying + getting lucky with a bunch of hits to take it out while I can still threaten tera to block drain so the same play of flame charge again was chosen. From there I got to just hit things, made a slight mistake going ndm on his ndm instead of zacian since I thought I couldn't lose but if it was the 1/100 offensive dd + moonlight with sunsteel eq I coulda lost, when zacian was faster and just won. Not a likely scenario at all it's just something to keep in mind for future scenarios to be more careful. NDM cleans from there though.

This team is more flimsy than the others defensively, since the arceus is offensive rather than a defensive fairyceus. To make up for that the korai was tera fairy to try and win the mirror which is what ended up coming in handy, and I had a fairy in zacian-c + another tera fairy just in case, and kyogre to change weather. I mainly just wanted to use ekiller once vs someone and figured it would work into entro since I probably know his teams the best and I assumed he would probably expect something more similar to the first 2 teams I used since this game was played last so there's more info. CM ghost ogre and the standard ndm were there to hopefully cover any stall since entro had stalled earlier in qualifiers, and zacian was dark crunch one because it's just a good set and beats stuff like lunala and ghostceus but also in case he was cm idef ndm since he used that vs me in upl so I just wanted to be sure for the specific player matchup.

Little late but we decided to give this thread a conclusion, entro will post the Finals Recap soon as well :) Wont be fair to start this post without giving a shoutout to Frito for their incredible performance, their wins were instrumental to the success of US West, and Excal as well who had a great showing and brought some super cool teams despite not being a mainer.

Preview
Excal decides to bring a sticky webs team in the form webs + hazard removal + 4, while Frito brings a BO. Frito’s Landorus is most likely Helmet or defensive given the presence of Ekiller, while Eternatus could be TSpikes. In this context, Frito’s team is very Webs-weak; therefore, Koraidon is most likely Boots. Similarly, Kyurem-B might be Tera Electric specifically for the webs MU.
Lead:
Excal leads Rib vs an Eternatus lead from Frito. Therefore, Eternatus is TSpikes, and Kyurem is not Tera Electric. Since Frito allows webs, we assume Koraidon is Boots.
Another possible lead for Frito could have been Ekiller, going for SD turn 1 and trying to make a 2-for-1 exchange. In fact, the main issue of Excal’s team is that it has only 4 main breakers; therefore, a turbo lead by Frito would probably put a lot of early pressure on Excal.

Game
Eternatus turns out to be Eject Pack, which is a curious choice since it reveals Frito’s team to be even more weak to webs. Then Excal’s Zacian weakens Lando-T for a possible late-game sweep. On turn 7, an interaction between Eternatus and Terapagos starts, which ends with no hazards on Excal’s side, letting Koraidon in for free vs Kyurem-B. Koraidon takes out Lando-T, and after basic interactions, we arrive at turn 18. Excal makes a good play by CCing Tera Fire Koraidon twice, putting it in range of Ray’s ESpeed and ending the game. Excal’s team choice proved to be optimal, since Frito had basically only one answer to his kind of webs in Boots Koraidon — which is usually not enough, especially if the Koraidon is a non-bulky variant.

Jhonx brings a standard Flyceus Webs squad while entro brings... balance? which seems to be targetting an HO bring, and the koraidon could potentially be some stallbreaker set like Taunt Scale. They have a dialga and skeledirge so you could probably assume that its offensive eternatus as well, which wont be too useful here. Jhonx's Lunala could break early and potentially chip Dialga for a Flyceus endgame, but if the Kora is boots then its quite threatening even if Webs go up.

Game
Entro leads with Etern to bait Ribombee to click webs while also covering an anti Hatterene lead. Jhonx throws a moonblast as entro switches to hatterene and he immediately reveals skill swap, so Hatterene is vulnerable and Webs will go up now. Jhonx goes to Kora to revenge kill but lets his Koraidon get para'd next turn, and a lot of full paras happen here -- Jhonx said in game chat that it was Taunt which wouldve made it super super tough for entro since Skele being weakened also opens up the game for Jhonx's Zacian. However I feel like he shouldnt have risked his Koraidon vs Hatterene in the first place unless it was sub. After this, the game sorta just plays itself out, Jhonx has no real breakers to get through this defensive core, and entro's HDB T Fire Kora was the nail in the coffin. Entro takes this one comfortably, although it could've been a different story if Jhonx utilized his Taunt Koraidon more carefully or had better luck with paralysis

Preview
Both players bring similar squads - Koraidon Groudon Kyogre BO with Fairyceus, a Ghost, and a Steel. Entro has a Lunala and a NDM, definitely DDance on this team, while Frito has a :pecharunt: ? and kingambit. We have not seen Pecharunt used a lot before but its actually not a bad pick here, it absorbs a lot of hits from Fairyceus and NDM (if defensive DD) and pivots into Kyogre. Since both teams are kinda similar I feel like it just comes down to whoever plays their Kora Kyogre better, and whoever can set up the endgame with their Steel type better. Would favour Frito slightly because I assume that Kingambit is good into both Lunala and NDM
Game
T1 Thunders are exchanged - Frito's Kyogre seems to be better equipped for this scenario, given that its faster, tanks 2 thunders, while also 2hkoing opposing Kyogre itself - full points for the ev game. Frito then trades their Kyogre for some chip on Groudon which is Sitrus but this is still a reasonable trade. Frito immediately answers with their Fairyceus which forces a kill and forces entro to bring in his own fairyceus. At this point its fairly obvious that its a TWave and potentially fast Fairyceus from Entro I feel, and Frito catches this and goes to their Pecha right away. Now Pecha gets to do her thing, parting shots into Groudon which lets it get a spike up. To entro's surprise its also SD and reasonably fast so she gets insane value out of this Groudon since it chipped entros fairy to half, and killed Lunala and Groudon. Some more turns happen but the game already looks dire for entro. Frito has Balloon Kingambit and entro misses a couple of Scale Shots which may or may not have mattered, but it is the nail in the coffin for him. Frito's Koraidon cleans the endgame.

Tiebreak games are always very funny and interesting to watch, and in this context, we have an SV Ubers game as the deciding game for the WCOP tiebreak. US West decided to pick SV Ubers given Frito’s good record, while Team Italy sent Punny over Entro. There were multiple reasons for this choice, and in retrospect, I think this was a very good move by the Italian managers.I’ll give a small context to understand Punny’s team:The only input I gave was to avoid using Ditto, while I left free choice to Punny for the team to use. After several ladder games and many test games, we ended up building a webs team with bulky Koraidon, Tera Steel Zacian, and a Lunala as a spinblocker. We also ran Arceus-Electric since it is good into many of Frito’s teams. The worst matchup for this team is TSpikes + Scarf Lando. Hatterene is not such a bad matchup, since many Hatterene builds share the issue of not being able to handle special spam (Arc-Electric + Ogre + Lunala) well.

Preview
Frito loads Hatterene, likely with Ability Shield, alongside Helmet Lando and Rocks in the back. Therefore, Koraidon is expected to be LO or Dice.
Lead
Punny knows that Frito sometimes brings Zacian with Tera Electric for the webs matchup, and similarly for Kyurem-B. But in this case, the presence of Hatterene mitigates this possibility. As a result, we see a Ribombee lead on Punny’s side vs Arceus-Ghost from Frito.

Game
Frito goes Hatterene on Punny’s needed double to Kyogre. Here, Frito switches to Ogre to scout for a Water/Ice move. Punny’s Kyogre reveals Water Spout, dealing more than half to Frito’s Ogre indicating an offensive set (Specs?). Frito decides to stay in, losing Ogre in order to get a free entry for Koraidon. At this point, Punny can’t afford to let Koraidon set up, so he stays in and dies instantly to Wild Charge from Life Orb Koraidon. On Punny’s side, the situation is still good since LO Koraidon takes heavy recoil and self-damage. What he must avoid now is a potential Healing Wish from Hatterene into it.

Ribombee’s Moonblast is free, and Frito goes Hatterene again. Punny switches to Arceus-Electric and sets up Calm Mind, dealing 76% to Arceus-Ghost, which is revealed to be Taunt. Koraidon revenge kills Arceus-Electric, and we arrive at the deciding moment of the game on turn 11. At this point, Frito is left with two options: either Tera and KO Zacian, then go Hatterene on Ribombee, or go Lando, which is risky since Punny’s Zacian could be Tera Flying especially given there’s no Ground immunity on Punny’s team. Koraidon with Wild Charge usually doesn’t run Flame Charge, as it would miss important KOs. As a result, Punny is free to go for Substitute on Tera Blitz from Koraidon. At this point, Frito’s situation looks very difficult, and we get a Zacian vs Zacian scenario. Here, Punny reveals Tera Steel, which was very difficult for Frito to predict. Frito’s Zacian survives the roll. Frito then goes Lando but gets 2HKO’d, and the situation resets to Zacian vs Zacian. The reason for this interaction is that Frito wanted to avoid risking a speed tie, as Punny’s Lunala would otherwise win. However, Crunch is not enough to KO Lunala thanks to Shadow Shield, leading to Team Italy’s win.
